- Archer, Trip and T'Pol are captured by the Andorians at a Vulcan monastery on P'Jem. They believe that the monastery is being used to spy on Andoria.
- Archer, Tucker and T'Pol pay a visit to the sanctuary of P'Jem. The sanctuary is more than 3000 years old and used for the practice of kolinahr, the Vulcan method of purging emotions. P'Jem doesn't look pristine however. The door seems smashed and inside ornaments are either broken or displaced. It isn't long before they find out the place has been taken over by Andorians, blue humanoids that aren't particularly on friendly terms with the Vulcans. They suspect the sanctuary of P'Jem to be a disguise for a long range sensor array used for spying. Archer and Trip are suspected of collaborating with the Vulcans and put under arrest.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- When the Enterprise is close to the Vulcan sanctuary of P'Jem, a sacred spot where Vulcans go to meditate and no technology is allowed, Archer and Tucker decide to visit the location and invite T'Pol to go with them. T'Pol teaches the protocol to the earthlings, but when they reach the monastery, they observe that some objects are out of place. Sooner they are captured and find out that the Andorians have taken the sanctuary and arrested the dwellers, suspecting that the Vulcans spy their planet with a powerful sensor. When the distrustful Andorians scam the Enterprise and see the officer of science T'Pol, they believe that the starship crew collaborates with Vulcans and they decide to interrogate Archer. When Lieutenant Reed is transported with two security guards to protect the hostages, they chase the Andorians through the sacred catacombs, where they discover a hidden secret.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Captain Archer tells Sub-Commander T'Pol that he had found a remote outpost on a planet a few light years off their current heading, and that he would like to visit this 3000-year-old Vulcan monastery, called P'Jem. En route, T'Pol describes it as an ancient retreat, a place for Kolinahr (The Vulcan purging of emotions) and peaceful meditation. T'Pol is unhappy with Archers decision to visit the monastery, until Phlox helps her realize that the Enterprise is merely fulfilling her mission to seek out new life forms and make contact.. She also explains the strict visit protocols-they should not speak to anyone unless spoken to first, nor touch any relics. Arriving at P'Jem, a Vulcan elder (Bruce French) tries to send the away team away, but Archer notices the reflected form of an armed intruder. Although they manage to subdue him, they are quickly captured by a larger group of armed Andorian Imperial Guards, led by Commander Shran (Jeffrey Combs).
Shran interrogates Archer, asking if they have brought more surveillance equipment for the Vulcans. The Andorians lock up the away team with the Vulcan monks, who explain that the Andorians, neighbors of Vulcan, believe that P'Jem holds a long-range sensor array (They also resent Vulcan logic and superior tech and believe that Vulcans will one day mount a full scale invasion of their home world), and the arrival of T'Pol and Enterprise has unfortunately amplified their suspicions (Andorians have been to the sanctuary twice before and have left within a day, when they found nothing). When Enterprise attempts to contact the away team, Shran warns them not to interfere and destroys their communicators. During interrogation, wrongly disbelieving Archer's protestations of ignorance, the Andorians beat him.
Reed, in command of the Enterprise decides to put together an armed landing party to rescue the away team. Archer knows this and tells the monks when he thrown back in their chambers. Seeing Archer, the monks relent and take Commander Tucker to an ancient transmitter in the catacombs. T'Pol argues with Archer that an armed conflict would put the monks at risk and would even risk an inter-planetary war.. After repairing the device, Archer manages to send a signal to Enterprise to tell them to wait for the right moment while Tucker looks for the right spot. Soon, Lieutenant Reed and a security team transport into the tunnels, taking out most of the Andorians with explosive charges and phaser fire.
Shran escapes into the Reliquary (where the most ancient relics are stored and the Vulcans insisted that no one has entered that door in ages), where a fire-fight reveals a large modern door. Archer manages to open it, revealing a high-tech sensor chamber (along with several Vulcan military personnel manning it). With the Vulcan deception exposed, Archer lets the Andorians go with T'Pol's palm scanner (with which she had taken detailed pictures of the chamber) as evidence of the installation. T'Pol had vowed to follow Archer's orders during her service on the ship, and reluctantly, she complies. Shran remarks that he is now in Archer's debt.
