"The Social Worker" introduces Vicky Huxtable as Miss Janet Gerber, staff psychiatrist with the social welfare department, who later appeared in two further episodes, "Fish Behind Bars" and "Charlie Resigns." She has been assigned the task of investigating the group home dynamic, becoming alarmed at Fish's outward hostility, which might result in his being replaced. Jilly thinks very highly of Fish and doesn't want to lose him ("you're the only man that was ever nice to me that wasn't going out with my mother!"). The more Janet talks to Charlie, the more interested she becomes in HIS needs (she's really got to get out more). She and Charlie will be seeing more of each other (Janet: "Charles, I want a total commitment!" Charlie: "I'm ready to be committed!").
