Enjoyable two part episode has Don Adams' close friend Don Rickles appear as Smart's old Army buddy (in later seasons we learn Smart also served as an officer in the Navy!)Sid Krimm. They haven't seen each other in years, so when he comes to town, Krim wants to get some girls and do the town. Cruelly, Max calls on 99 to see if she would like to join them--as Sid's date and could she find a hot little blonde number for him as well? 99 justifiably slams the phone down on Max but moments later a hot blonde in a trench coat shows up at his doorstep! She's Gina, a KAOS defector who wants to sell a little black book with valuable information for $50,000. Of course she is shot just as Sid shows up. Max has to hide the body and cover up his secret identity so Sid doesn't get wise. They end up on a date with two KAOS agents who are out to recover the book (Paula Pentiss sister Ann, who is an absolute dead ringer for her) and Zelda (The always adorable Arlene Golonka, who played Millie on "Mayberry RFD"). Although they lose the book, Sid remembers the information--only he won't give it to Max because he doesn't believe he's really a spy. So Max has to prove it to him. For the only time in the series, we see Max take someone else through the phone booth entrance. Sid immediately hits on 99 then backs off when he thinks he sees her father arrive (the Chief). There's an old show biz adage that says when the actors are having a good time, the audience also has a good time, and that's true here. It's obvious Adams is enjoying working with his friend Rickles and vice versa. He unselfishly lets Rickles have a lot of the jokes, one of the most enjoyable being when he does his Don Adams impression. There's also a funny James Bond reference in talking about getting Sid a "license to kill learner's permit". Director James Komack even gets in on the fun, playing a KAOS hit-man in a scene with Paula--sorry no, I mean Ann Prentiss. The show ends with a cliffhanger as the director of the show is about to shoot his star.
