The cleavage-revealing outfit Fern wore in the scene where she and Davy Jones meet was actually considered too risqué for the time, and the scene was censored visually. (And somewhat crudely, with Vaseline smeared over Fern's image in a few shots.) An uncensored version appeared in syndication during the 1970s, but wasn't part of the 1980s remastering. The uncensored footage finally reappeared in remastered form, during IFC's 2015 Monkees marathon.
The western Davy Jones is forced to watch, Iron Horse (1966), actually aired directly opposite The Monkees on ABC. Despite airing as competition, this show was produced by the same company as The Monkees: Screen Gems.
Pianist Roger Spiker was brought in to provide live piano accompaniment for Davy Jones and Fern's song-and-dance routine on Mr. Hack's "Amateur Hour".
Michael Nesmith wrote the song DIFFERENT DRUM he performed in the amateur-hour scenes. Obviously his musical interpretation of it was satirical. It was a huge hit for Linda Ronstadt. Mike released his own version (with added lyrics) in acoustic form in 1972.
Alternate title: "Davy and Fern."
