The barrel of a gun...
canndyman15 May 2021
When by chance Bodie is reunited with old flame Marikka, they risk a loving reunion - despite her now being married, and her husband close by.

But worse is to come, as Bodie finds himself framed for a diplomat's assassination - and is left with nowhere to turn as he finds there's no one he can trust - even CI5.

This is tense and gripping episode that really builds well and turns the screw until we reach an agonisng climax.

Pamela Salem is perfect as the exotic Marikka, and as a viewer, you can really feel for Bodie as he's unwittingly lured into the enemy's cunning trap.

There's still time for some fun moments too, and some good 'car banter' in the opening scenes as Doyle relishes his weekend off - not to mention some playful mentions throughout of his fictional stamp collection!

Many viewers will of course recognize Patrick Malahide of 'Minder' fame - seen here playing a security man even more unscrupulous than Charlie Chisholm.

This is certainly an above-average episode of this excellent series that delivers some good action and keeps you guessing until the end.

Fall Girl

Another tense and action packed hospital. This time Bodie on the run for his life.

It takes a while to warm up. Bodie meets an old flame Marikka Schuman, an East German film star who is visiting London with her husband who produces her movies.

Bodie makes contact with Marikka but he is being set up.

While Bodie is in a hotel room with Marikka. An East German delegate is assassinated with Bodie's fingerprints on the gun.

Cowley finds out that someone from British intelligence is working with friendly East German spies. Bodie is the fall guy but Cowley is having none of it. Doyle has to help get Bodie out from a tight spot.

It was nice to see Cowley being supportive of his agents in this episode, as he was far from supportive in the previous one. I could not get over the silly grin Doyle kept displaying in the early part of the story.

There was some good location shooting such as the gardens in Holland Park.

Manhunt

Warning: Spoilers
The final episode of series two takes the form of a manhunt with Bodie the subject of a set up, subsequently purcuased across London by allies and enemies alike. There's a fun albeit minor role for cult favourite Patrick Malahide as a security guy, while Lewis Collins is acting his heart out. The episode takes a while to get going with some unfocused moments earlier on, but is fine once it hits its stride.

Worst Ending

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler - Worst ending. Completely unexplained interplay between Crowley and Doyle/Brodie.

No way Brodie ( or Doyle) would have let the killer walk away. Completely out of character for Crowley.
