Storyline

While on the roof of the barn, Jonathan is contacted though the octagonal key and Clark saves him from a fall. Clark goes to the Kawatche caves with the key trying to find an explanation for what happened, when Lionel Luthor unexpectedly appears and expresses his suspicion towards Clark. Lionel goes to New York and secretly meets with Dr. Virgil Swann and proposes an association to investigate Clark. Meanwhile, the FBI is revealed to have bugs in Lex's mansion for a surveillance to obtain evidence against Lionel, and Clark becomes a suspect due to the interest of Lionel in the apparently simple "farm boy". Later, agents, led by Frank Loder, arrive at the Kent farm to search it for the missing octagonal key, leading Clark to mistakenly believe that Dr. Swann betrayed him to Lionel. Meanwhile, Lana cannot seem to make up her mind whether she wants to stay with Clark or not. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

A Useful Episode to Season 3
4 December 2007 | by Rcwilkinson123See all my reviews

Christopher Reeve makes second appearance on the show 25 episodes after his first appearance the previous year in this great episode.

Jonathan Kent's heart problems are worsening. What's worse, the key calls out to him the way it did to Clark in the past. This causes an accident at the farm, prompting Clark to discover why Jor-El is calling out to his adoptive father. Searching for answers, he comes into contact with the evil Lionel Luthor in the caves, making Lionel even more suspicious of who Clark is and where he comes from. Lionel, knowing that Clark had met with Dr. Swann (Reeve) in the past, goes to New York to see if Swann will help him discover who Clark is. Swann refuses, but mysteriously offers Lionel a bit of assistance at the end of their conversation. Jonathan and Lionel end up in major conflict in the cave, and the key gets lost in the process, only to end up in unexpected hands by episodes' end.

This episode is one of the stronger ones of season three. Christopher Reeve brings so much credibility to the show, and the story gets closer to completely unveiling Lionel's evil intentions.
