- SG-1 makes contact with the Aschen, unaware that their homeworld is one they were warned previously from the future to be considered off-limits.
- SGC has met the Volians, a simple, peaceful people which trades its agricultural produce with the technologically more advanced Aschen, whose envoy Mollen accepts to negotiate an elaborate treaty aboard one of their amazing ships, which process an entire harvest in a minute, with earth's delegation: Presidential Ambassador Joseph Faxon, Jack and Sam. Remaining on the Volian planet, Teal'c and Daniel discover the ruins of a suddenly abandoned city, from which Daniel deduces that their once advanced civilization and demography were abruptly broken about the time the Volians met the Aschen and received a vaccine from them. In SGC, Jack's note from the future warning against the Aschen is found, but the White House and, especially, ambitious Senator Robert Kinsey refuse to listen to any objection to a treaty about joining the Aschen confederation promising valuable technology.—KGF Vissers
- After receiving a note - apparently written by Col. O'Neill some time in the future - stating that under no circumstances should they visit planet P4C970, Gen. Hammond ordered the dialing code for the planet removed from the computer system. Several months later, the SG-1 team have met the Volians, an agricultural society who have developed a positive relationship with the Aschen, a technologically superior race that has also offered to enter into a treaty with Earth. All goes well in treaty negotiations, but Daniel discovers that, some 200 years ago, the Volians were a modern urban civilization of millions until they were wiped out by the Aschen. Despite the evidence that P4C970 may be the Aschen home world, powerful people in Washington - including Senator Robert Kinsey - want to see the treaty negotiations continue.—garykmcd
- While visiting the planet of the Volians, dedicated to agriculture, the SG-1 meets the Aschen that are technologically advanced, trading with the Volians. They offer to trade their technology with the Earthlings; in return, they request the presence of a representative to negotiate the location of other Stargates. The SG-1 has a meeting with prominent military, and the Ambassador Joseph Faxon is assigned to return to the planet with the SG-1. While Faxon, Jack and Samantha have a meeting with the Aschen Borren and Mollen, Daniel and Teal'c snoop around to learn the opinion of the Volians about their commercial partners. Daniel and Teal'c stumble upon a hole, and they find an ancient civilization in ruins buried under the fields. Soon, they learn that the Aschen are not what they seem to be, and they had destroyed the Volians to use their land for agriculture. Further, they understand why Jack sent a note advising the SGC to never go to the Aschen planet. However, their greedy superiors refuse to accept the truth as they are interested in Aschen technology.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
