In "Washington Crosses the Delaware", the first scene shows Washington's officers huddled against an open fireplace in Washington's HDQ trying to get warm on Christmas Day. Complaining about their conditions the topic of Christmas is raised and one of the officers remarks "Yea, Christmas is the day that Santa Claus goes down the chimney too". Unfortunately, the modern concept of Santa Claus and climbing down the chimney didn't originate until nearly 50 years later in the famous 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicolas".
