Storyline

There's no crisis situation they can't handle... unless it involves each other. Matt Flannery and Emily Lehman are the top-ranked negotiators in the FBI's Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU). They're trained to talk their way through volatile situations. They're experts at knowing what makes other people tick. They're also sleeping together... a secret that they agreed to keep to themselves, until Matt revealed it to the entire world during a tense hostage standoff. The public revelation causes friction between Matt, who doesn't take much seriously and relies on gut instinct, and Emily, an academic who analyzes every move. Their relationship also gets them into major trouble with their boss, Cheryl Carrera, head of the Los Angeles CNU, and raises eyebrows among their CNU colleagues, including intelligence officer Lia Mathers. While Matt and Emily should be split up for being romantically involved, they're too valuable as a team. Together, they're among the best in their field; Cheryl knows ... Written by Anonymous

Goofs

The vast majority of the cases shown would not be handled by the FBI. Since they involve state-level crimes local law enforcement such as the LAPD would handle them. The LAPD was an early adopter of the SWAT program. A notable exception was in Standoff: Partners in Crime when bank robbery was involved, as the FBI investigates bank robbery. See more »

Quotes

Emily Lehman: Look, I can handle Doug, but with Steele in the room it'll be like trying to diffuse a bomb with a little gremlin on my shoulder pulling my hair.
Matt Flannery: Why is the gremlin pulling your hair?
Emily Lehman: Look, I could come up with a better metaphor...

Ron Livingston Rocks!
2 June 2006 | by mattdvsSee all my reviews

Working for a TV station, I was lucky enough to get to see the first episode of this show. It's a smart and funny show that I hope continues in this direction. It's two lead actors, Ron Livingston and Rosemarie Dewitt, play their roles as crisis negotiators very well. I only hope that the writing continues to be as strong in progressive episodes as it was in the pilot.

Being a big fan of "harder edge" shows like 24, The Shield, & The Sopranos, I was surprised to find I really enjoyed this show. I've been a big fan of Ron Livingston's since he had a side role in Swingers back in '96, and while I haven't seen much featuring Rosemarie Dewitt, I thought she provided a perfect foil for Ron Livingston's dry wit.

Overall, I'd rate the show an 8 out of 10, only because I've only seen the first episode so far. I hope they continue to build on the relationship between the two lead characters and keep the level of writing high.
