Sex & Nudity

  • Many women are naked or clothed in only underwear as they work in a drug processing room. This room is shown in at least three separate scenes. The women are focused on briefly.
  • A few sexual comments throughout.
  • One of the main protagonists is said to have many illicit affairs while married, and is shown with different women.
  • At 32:51. Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe's character) is in bed with a woman, he answers the phone and she rolls over, exposing a bare breast for 1-2 seconds.
  • From 52:14 to 52:46, Frank Lucas walks his brothers into his drug processing rooms, and there are 10-12 women with breasts clearly seen, naked from the waist up, wearing only bikini panties, walking, standing, processing the heroin.
  • At 2:08:37, a man is getting a massage and 2 topless women are shown.
  • A partially naked woman makes love to a man, she makes mildly sexualized comments in this scene.
  • A partially nude woman massages a man.
  • A man admires a woman who is dancing.
  • A man touches a woman's breast. They are both clothed.

Violence & Gore

  • A heroin house raid occurs. Many drug dealers are shot in this sequence, with fleeting shots of blood and gore.
  • A police officer punches a man in the face to take his car.
  • Some hateful/unbelievable behaviour.
  • A man is lit on fire, screams, and then shot several times killing him.
  • A man smashes a door with a sledge hammer, chases another man, and one man is bitten on the hand (he screams and no blood is visible); a man is struck in the head with the handle of the sledge hammer (no blood), a man is thrown to the floor and we see a man being kicked.
  • A man holds a gun to a man's head, he fires, the man falls and we see him with a wound in the forehead and some blood around his head. A man shoots a man in the head (some blood splatters on a curtain). A man's hand is shot (we see blood fly through the air).
  • A man is shot in the shoulder (blood flies through the air), a man is shot in the stomach and falls backward, a man is shot in the chest, and people fire guns at other people. Some blood.
  • A man shoots a woman in the back (she falls, there is no visible blood and she does not die).
  • A man shoots a man in the knee (we see blood later).
  • Men fire guns from a car at a woman during a driveby, striking a man protecting the woman in the shoulder. Another man shoots a gun at the fleeing car.
  • We see a man lying dead in a pool of blood, and we see a pale, dead body (covered with a sheet to the shoulders) in a morgue.
  • A man's head is smacked with the lid of a piano and a man and women are shown later cleaning bloodstains out of a carpet.
  • A man has cuts and blood on his face.
  • A man shoots a dog offscreen. The dog whimpers in pain and is shown laying on the ground motionless with a bullet hole in its neck.
  • A man throws a man against a pool table and hits him with a pool cue (a bit of blood is seen), a man slams another man to the ground, a man wrestles another man to the ground, and a man kicks a woman in the head.
  • A man pushes another man to the floor, he points a gun at him, cuffs him, and shoves a cloth in his mouth, and a boy is grabbed and his mouth is covered.
  • A man is thrown to the floor, a man is struck in the head with the butt of a shotgun, and another man is knocked unconscious with a gun.
  • A door is shot sending glass into the face and body of a nearby man.
  • A man slams a man against a wall and points a gun at him.
  • A man is punched in the face repeatedly, and another man is punched in the face and the back of his head breaks a window.
  • A woman lies dead on a bathroom floor with a bloody leg wound.
  • A woman lies dead in a bed while an infant cries next to her.
  • A man clutches his chest, and has a heart attack.
  • A man is pushed down a flight of stairs (we don't see what happens to him). A man crashes through a window.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Many instances of people using drugs, the ill effects of drugs, and the violence related to drugs.
  • The several police raids are violent, fast paced, and chaotic.

  • Several of the characters face severe moral dilemmas.
  • A sudden suicide.
  • The film focuses heavily on police corruption.
