Storyline

There never was a star quite like her. Adored by adults and children alike, at four she already led at the Box Office - ahead of Gable and Cooper. Her films saved a movie studio from bankruptcy, and a President credited her with raising the morale of Depression-weary Americans. Her earliest movies gave a foretaste of her talents and soon would become the songs and dances that helped make those movies immortal. Here she is at her heart-stirring best in films like Little Miss Marker, Now and Forever, The Little Princess, and The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer. Also appearing: actors Caesar Romero, Alice Faye and Gloria Stuart, and former child actors Jane Withers, Darryl Hickman, Dick "Dickie" Moore, Marcia Mae Jones, and stand-in Marilyn Granas. Our host is an entertainment legend in his own right - Tommy Tune.

Nice Documentary on Temple

Shirley Temple: America's Little Darling (1993)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Cesar Romero, Alice Faye, Marcia Mae Jones, Dickie Moore, Delmar Watson, Darryl Hickman, Gloria Stuart and Richard R. Ross are among the people interviewed in this entertaining documentary about the career of Shirley Temple. We start off learning about her childhood, which as everyone knows was in the public eye at a very young age. We start off taking a look at how she got selected for a series of shorts before becoming one of the biggest stars of the 1930s. From there we learn about the end of her career in Hollywood and her starting to work for the government.

If you're a fan of Temple then you should enjoy this documentary as it offers up a pretty good narrative of her life and especially her time in Hollywood. The film features a great number of clips and the interviews are quite good as well and especially when you consider that many of these people are no longer with us. It's too bad Temple wasn't interviewed but I'm sure it was probably offered to her.
