Sex & Nudity

  • There are many sex scenes throughout, and all of them are shown in a very raw and uncomfortable manner. Breasts and butt are shown but no genitalia.
  • There sexual references ranging from mild to incredibly explicit.
  • The movie opens with a man having sex beside a bull ring with two women. Lots of graphic thrusting is shown.
  • A prolonged flashback shows a man having sex with multiple other women. Some brief nudity and some thrusting.
  • a flashback shows the main character having sex with a woman with track marks on her arms; its how he contracted the HIV virus.
  • Though there are lots of sexual scenes throughout the movie, the most graphic one includes a man watching two women having sex, which who he later has sex with, all while a porn video is playing in the background.
  • Another prolonged scene shows a man with aids getting a trafficked victim. They engage in oral sex before the man starts to cry.
  • A man masturbates (nothing shown but him breathing), looking at pictures of scantly clad women. And is disrupted by a picture of a man (this is not graphic and played only for laughs).
  • Several brief scenes in a strip club with topless women and some dancing.
  • A man's butt is briefly seen sticking out of the back of his hospital gown after waking up from a comatose state. In other scenes, he is wearing underwear under the gown.

Violence & Gore

  • A character coughs up blood.
  • One man lunges at another, but is held back. He then spits on two men.
  • A man grabs a doctor and yells at him, but he is then pulled away.
  • A man scuffles with another man and is hit in the mouth, causing his mouth to become bloody.
  • A man's leg is caught up underneath a industrial device, a graphic shot of his bloody leg is seen.

Profanity

  • 'F*ck' and its derivatives are said 100 times
  • 'Pussy' is said in a vulgar context.
  • 'Godd*mn' is said several times.
  • 'Dumb*ss' is said.
  • 'Son of a b*tch' is said at least three times.
  • 'F*ggot' is said many times.
  • 'C*cksucker' is said at least three times.
  • 'D*mn' is said.
  • 'Balls' is said in a vulgar context.
  • 'Sh*t' is said many times.
  • 'Sand niggers' is said as a derogatory reference.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • During a flashback we see needle marks on a man's arm implying that he got AIDS from sharing a heroin needle
  • The main character Ron Woodroof is a drug addict, alcoholic, and chain smoker. When he finds out that he has HIV, he abuses his medication (he takes it with alcohol), snorts a lot of cocaine and drinks throughout each day. This causes him to almost die.
  • In the opening scene a man and two women snort cocaine.
  • A man takes a drink of alcohol from a bottle before riding a bull.
  • Several scenes takes place in a bar.
  • Many people snort cocaine.
  • A main theme of the movie is dealing prescription drugs that help people who have AIDS that are unapproved by the FDA.
  • People are shown to be doing heroin.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This movie is very heavy and has a lot to do with depressing matters such as, drug addiction, STDs and death.
  • The main characters engage in illegal activities to get medications to extend their life.
  • The main character has several episodes of disorientation that are intense.

  • A man that knows he has AIDS has sex with several women throughout the movie.

  • A man carries a gun in several scenes. It is implied he wants to commit suicide with it at one point but he cries and drives off.

  • A transgender woman is a drug addict, and is shown to have died from drugs in addition to her having AIDS.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A transgender woman dies from AIDS and drug addiction, this can be very heartbreaking and emotional.
  • One character attempts to kill themself. The scene is quite upsetting to some viewers
