There's a huge amount of excitement surrounding Christopher Nolan's next movie, The Odyssey, and as the filmmaker gears up to begin shooting his first fantasy feature, we have an official first look at Matt Damon as Odysseus (via SFFGazette.com).
This may be an indication that, due to Nolan's penchant for shooting in real-world locations, Universal Pictures is wary that the paparazzi will be snapping shots of the cast. Either way the Interstellar and Thor: Ragnarok star looks mighty impressive here.
Despite claims that Tom Holland will be The Odyssey's lead, the fact Damon is taking centre stage in this first look suggests the focus will very much be on Odysseus. Will more photos of the cast follow? We hope so, though this is an exciting glimpse at what's to come in the movie.

Christopher Nolan is one of the most important directors of his time, and may even be the preeminent filmmaker of his generation. But there's an element to the British director's style that, at times, can make his films seem a little too functional and cold. As Richard Brody wrote in his New Yorker review of "Oppenheimer," "Nolan cuts his scenes to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, and details that don't fit — contradictions, subtleties, even little random peculiarities — get left out [...] What remains is a movie to be solved rather than lived."
With 2014's "Interstellar," however, the director proved he could balance his functional "jigsaw puzzle" style with real emotional heft. As such, "Interstellar" remains Nolan's emotional masterpiece, and is for many his best film. What makes it a true marvel is that Nolan managed to create a truly moving emotional drama that also happens to be a spectacular sci-fi...

“Nosferatu” (Craig Lathrop), “Wicked” (Nathan Crowley), and “Conclave” (Suzie Davies) were the period, fantasy, and contemporary production design winners at the 29th annual Art Directors Guild Awards, held February 15 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.
Also winning for animation was “The Wild Robot”, following its Annies sweep and Ves prizes. On the TV side, “Shōgun,” “Squid Game,” “Fallout,” and “The Penguin” were the winners for their production designers in their respective categories.
The Lathrop win for “Nosferatu” was not surprising when you consider that “The Brutalist” production designer Judy Becker is not an Adg member. She has been the presumptive Oscar favorite for channeling Oscar-nominated Adrien Brody’s visionary architect, László Tóth, in applying a Brutalist style to the architectural designs of mid-century Pennsylvania with its bold shapes and function over form aesthetic.

Image Source: Warner Bros Christopher Nolan is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. Over the years, he has redefined what movies can achieve with groundbreaking works like Memento, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Interstellar, Tenet, and his latest historical opus, Oppenheimer. Known for his intricate plots, philosophical depth, and eye-popping visuals, Nolan’s films challenge audiences to rethink time, reality, and human connection. Yet, even among this stellar filmography, one title stands out as the purest example of his genius—Inception. Released in 2010, this masterpiece takes viewers on a mind-bending trip through layered dreamscapes. Its daring concept of “dreams within dreams,” coupled with stunning effects, Hans Zimmer’s iconic score, and an ambiguous ending that sparked endless debate, all cemented Inception as a modern classic. But what did Nolan himself think about creating this cinematic puzzle box? He once shared that Inception was one of his boldest risks as a filmmaker.

The film’s Rotten Tomatoes ratings are also not overwhelming, as the critics gave it 50%, while the audience gave it 79%. The collective consensus of the critics states, “Anthony Mackie capably takes up Cap’s mantle and shield, but Brave New World is too routine and overstuffed with uninteresting Easter eggs to feel like a worthy standalone adventure for this new Avengers leader.”

What a difference a decade makes. When Timothée Chalamet arrives at this year’s Berlinale for a special gala screening of James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, in which he plays an inscrutable Bob Dylan, he’ll be hailed as a star: He’s headlined such blockbusters as Wonka and the Dune movies and also just earned his second best actor Oscar nomination.
When Chalamet first walked Berlin’s red carpet in 2015, it was a different story. Then just 19, he was starring opposite Kiernan Shipka in Andrew Droz Palermo’s indie feature One & Two.
Following supporting parts in Showtime’s Homeland and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, it was Chalamet’s first lead role; he and Shipka portrayed siblings with the ability to teleport.
During a visit to THR’s lounge, Chalamet explained, “The movie’s about their separation journey — getting back together in the end or maybe not.” But the...

The Fast and Furious franchise has seen the most bizarre inclusions in its ensemble cast. What began as an illegal street racing-based action flick has blown up into an international spy adventure that has even gone to space, and those are still not its most bizarre parts. Stars like Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and Kurt Russell have regular roles in the films.

The Harry Potter universe is set to return to the screen with a highly anticipated Max original series, and one of the biggest casting questions is who will step into the role of Albus Dumbledore. While several actors could take up the mantle of Hogwarts’ wise and enigmatic headmaster, a new report suggests it will go to John Lithgow.
It may seem like a surprise choice, but a case can be made for Lithgow as the ideal Dumbledore. The Emmy- and Tony-winning actor has the gravitas, warmth, and theatrical presence needed to bring Dumbledore to life in a fresh yet faithful way. However, that doesn’t mean the selection isn’t without its flaws.

Following recent reports claiming that both Mark Strong and Mark Rylance could be in contention to play Albus Dumbledore in HBO's Harry Potter series, we're now hearing that John Lithgow is officially in talks for the role.
Lithgow has appeared in a multitude of film and TV projects over the years, including Dexter, Footloose, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Interstellar. More recently, he played key roles in Conclave and FX's prematurely cancelled The Old Man.
Jeff Sneider believes Rylance was offered the part, but declined after his wife passed away.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” won Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, the top feature prize at the 23rd Annual Visual Effects Society Awards and the one that most closely corresponds to the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The celebration of achievement in visual effects took place on Tuesday in Los Angeles.
The sci-fi primate sequel beat “Dune: Part Two,” which went into the evening with the most nominations (seven) and emerged with the most wins (four): Outstanding Achievement in a Photoreal Feature, Outstanding CG Cinematography, Outstanding Effects Simulations in a Photoreal Feature and Outstanding Compositing & Lighting in a Feature.
The victory for “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” does not necessarily make the film a frontrunner in the Oscars’ visual-effects race. Over the 22 years of Ves Awards, the winner went on to receive the Oscar 12 times, but the two groups have only matched three times in the last 10 years.

A lot needed to happen during “Wicked’s” “The Wizard and I.”
As Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) “I want” song, it expresses the character’s innermost desires: to meet the wizard who she believes will help her, and to feel accepted by everyone, including the audience.
Director Jon M. Chu needed audiences to fall in love with her. “We needed anything we could to get us to root for her and to be more of an underdog,” he explains.
Visually, Chu had an idea of ascension. The “Wizard and I” number begins with Elphaba and Madame Morrible walking down the stairs in the classroom. By the end, as Elphaba stands alone on the edge of a cliff, she expresses her deepest desire — to be part of a powerful team, alongside the Wizard.
Chu and his artisans worked closely to hit the storytelling points to ensure Elphaba’s big moment worked.

Over the years, Hollywood has churned out several sci-fi movies boasting A-list stars, spaceships, fictional planets, and spectacular cosmic vistas. And most of those movies have seemingly bent the laws of physics for commercial and artistic purposes. But when it came to the perfectionist Christopher Nolan, the director hired a theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne, to keep him grounded for Interstellar.

You won’t believe how well that served Christopher Nolan, especially since the filmmaker was almost set to deviate too far from the realms of what’s actually possible in physics. According to Kip Thorne, Nolan apparently wanted to add the “non-negotiable” concept of traveling faster than the speed of light. Thankfully, Thorne refused to give in.

Julius Onah directed the fourth installment, which is the continuation of the 2021 series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It underwent several changes, including its title. There were several reshoots, and Marvel has been going through a rough patch for the past few years. However, it regained its glory last year with Deadpool & Wolverine after earning over $1 billion at the box office, becoming 2024’s second highest-grossing film worldwide. However, there is still uncertainty around this film as Anthony Mackie will be appearing as Captain America, which has been popularized by Chris Evans.

Spectacle has been essential to keeping moviegoing alive and pushing filmmaking forward, and the impact of VFX on the industry cannot be overstated. As major studios look for more avenues to entice audiences into theaters in this rapidly shifting world of technology, in which almost every form of entertainment is at our fingertips, the promise of breathtaking set pieces on the big screen remains one of the biggest selling points for audiences. Ideally, the best achievement in visual effects Oscar sets a bar in terms of what can be attained through technology, creativity, budget and audience investment.
As a result, the category differs from the others in that it suggests a measurable goal for productions to reach. If a blockbuster with dinosaurs can’t look at least as good as the industry-shifting visual effects on display in Jurassic Park (1993), then there’s still work to be done. Those same industry-shifting...

Ever since George Melies shot a rocket into the eye of the Man in the Moon or when Protazanov entertained the possibility of a proletarian uprising on Mars, and Fritz Lang spellbindingly dramatized the space travel, cinema has started gazing into the outer space and speculating about the mysteries lying beyond the reaches of Earth. Subsequently, the space race between the 1950 and 1970s encouraged the craving for space-set sci-fi narratives. Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) might not be the greatest blockbuster hit like the later-era space operas like Star Wars and Star Trek franchise. Yet, it was one of the earlier films to offer a deeply perceptive look at humans’ existence in the universe.

Leonard Shelby can try to remember Sammy Jankis all he wants, but Guy Pearce would truly like to forget Memento. Despite Christopher Nolan’s film being a breakout for both the star and its director, Pearce insists he gives an absolutely terrible performance in it, even too bad to forget.
Speaking with The Times, Guy Pearce — who earned his share of acclaim for Memento, although most went to Nolan’s screenplay – admitted that his performance as the tattooed amnesiac is one he genuinely despises and it stands as the chief reason why he hasn’t worked with the director since. “…I’m having an existential crisis. I watched Memento the other day and I’m still depressed. I’m sh*t in that movie. I’d never thought that before, but I did this Q&a of Memento earlier this month and decided to actually watch the film again. But...

In terms of modern filmmaking, it's hard to do better than Christopher Nolan. Even dating back to his early works such as "The Prestige" and "Memento," it was clear that this man was something special. Everyone is going to have their favorites and yes, to an extent, film is a subjective medium. That said, Nolan's broad critical acclaim coupled with his ability to deliver a commercial hit makes him unrivaled in the 2000s. Rather quantifiably, he has proven himself to be the most consistently bankable director working in Hollywood today, and one pretty eye-popping stat proves it.
Nolan had a run from 2008 to 2017 that was, in a word, ridiculous. That run includes the $1 billion beloved blockbuster smash "The Dark Knight," his mind-bending thriller "Inception," DC's one-time highest-grossing movie ever "The Dark Knight Rises," the ambitious modern sci-fi classic "Interstellar," and...

You might expect that a man who has been doing production and set design on feature films for more than 30 years would be a bit jaded, and that earning a seventh Academy Award nomination for his work would be met with a shrug. But that’s not how it’s been for Nathan Crowley. Instead, the man who has made a career of being Christopher Nolan’s go-to production designer exudes joy and excitement while discussing his Oscar bid for Wicked on the eve of final voting on Feb. 11.
“I just wish we could do it all again,” asserts Crowley (watch his full Gold Derby interview above). When his interviewer expresses surprise at this declaration given that the usual feeling is one of relief, he assures, “I think we’ve all been spoiled, because nothing will live up to that experience. IMDb's Top 250 movies is a tough list for modern films to reach. It contains the best movies with the highest crowd-sourced ratings from any and all genres. Some of these are clear-cut candidates, like Adrien Brody's historical music biopic "The Pianist," which comes in 32nd on the list. Other movies are less sobering and more fantastical. For instance, all three of Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy films are in the top 12.
Sci-fi shows up a lot, too. "Interstellar" is ranked 19th. "The Matrix" is 16th. "The Empire Strikes Back" occupies the 15th spot, and "Inception" is the highest-ranked sci-fi of them all at 14th. With so many classics already on the list, it's hard for new releases to make the cut. Case in point, just three movies from 2024 were added to the list's hallowed ranks — two of which were from the sci-fi genre.

Loveyapa Box Office Day 1 Prediction ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s Loveyapa is finally out in theatres. Considering the concept and overall feel, the film should have attracted the footfalls of youth, but that seems to be not happening. Of course, it has an entire day ahead of it, but as far as advance booking is concerned, the film has failed to earn a respectable number at the Indian box office. This puts it in an uncomfortable position on day 1. Keep reading for a detailed prediction report!
Directed by the Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha fame Advait Chandan, the latest romantic comedy offers light-hearted content. The target audience for the film is Gen Z, and since the trailer and the title song grabbed some attention, it could have been a decent opener. Timothee Chalamet has quickly emerged as one of the more unique Hollywood leading men in recent years. With his lanky frame, brooding vigor and deeply felt sensitivity, the young man has become one of the most notable stars of his generation. His career began in TV movies and series, with recurring roles on such shows as Homeland and Royal Pains. He made his film debut in the Jason Reitman film Men, Women & Children in a relatively minor part. Those smaller roles continued through 2016 in films like Interstellar and The Adderall Diaries, playing younger versions of principal characters.
While Chalamet had a handful of substantial roles in indie movies, like 2016’s Miss Julie, everything changed the following year with the release of Call Me by Your Name. The actor’s sensitive portrayal of a 17-year-old finding his first great love garnered universal praise and landed him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

Squid Game dominated the streaming charts, though it cooled off a good amount in its third week at No. 1. Landman also peaked following its season finale, and American Primeval had a strong debut.
For the week of Jan. 6-12, Squid Game racked up 2.37 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s down by about 48 percent from the previous week — but still almost a billion minutes clear of Landman in second place. Since the Dec. 26 premiere of season two, Squid Game has totaled 11.88 billion minutes of watch time in the United States.
As for Landman, its 1.38 billion minutes for the week leading into its Jan. 12 season finale continued the Paramount+ drama’s streak of improving every week it’s been on. It grew from 1.3 billion minutes a week earlier.
American Primeval, a western from Peter Berg, was the top premiere of the week with 1.25 billion viewing minutes on Netflix.
