An absolutely delightful, imaginative show for the toddler set and their parents
suziealec200512 September 2006
My four year old daughter absolutely loves this show. Her forty something mother also loves this show. With its interactive remote control and the total silliness of the show, well it's just magic. I've seen the Umbilical Brothers live and their use of mime and film is very clever and very funny, so I was intrigued when I saw that were starring in a show for preschoolers. The great thing about it is that it doesn't talk down to kids and the hummer is intelligent as well as being completely off the wall at times. My daughter especially loves David and Shane and the schmuzzies. I think the beauty of the show is that you don't know what is going to happen next. Despite it being primarily targeted for preschoolers, there is lots of subversive hummer so that parents watching will enjoy it as well. Absolutely recommended.

best show on TV - kid or adult!
patrickmedberry4 January 2007
Started watching this show with my 4 month old granddaughter (who basically smiles at the moving pictures) but I am hooked. Are these guys good!!! Absolutely hilarious. they are masters at pantomime and physical humor.

Their trip to the art museum was too funny! Another time they were in the sticky room and stuck to the walls. Amazing. They talk to a fly, they have strange little fluffy things called schmuzzies for friends. you never know what will happen next. The show encourages children to be silly and have fun pretending.

I now watch the show regularly and I am 56. I would love to know more about these guys. I hope this show becomes a HUGE HIT.

great show
cydonia-17 January 2007
My 18-month old nephew got me hooked on this show! Now my mom and I watch it even more than he does.

These two guys are really creative and funny. They aren't Barney-like silly (no offense to Barney), so they can appeal to an older audience as well as to children.

I can definitively say that no other children's' program is as creative and appealing as the Upside Down show! I'm so glad that American television shows this program. While we're all laughing, my nephew is learning a lot about shapes and colors, as well as cooperation and sharing. David and Shane are teaching their young viewers values and good behavior, which is another great thing about this show.

It's a wonderful program, and I can't really say enough about it. You'll just have to check it out for yourself!

brilliant

thank god for the Upside Down show. it is an excellent, witty, entertaining show. And it's in Australian accents. it's terrifically inventive...surreal...intelligent. The performances are engaging and imaginative and the writing very clever. the physicalisation of everything is inspiring eg the characters dangling upside down. the door knocking games....the rewinding of the fingers destroying the sand castle, the talk of yoga poses, the investigation of all the elements of a beach.... the miming knitting...my daughter responds to it all. it's refreshingly noncommercial and the miming games are easy to continue playing once the show is over. i feel a bit guilty letting my child watch too much television, but not if the shows are in the spirit of this one. i had a 6 year old watching the show with my 5 year old daughter last night and he was laughing hysterically. Congratulations to the whole creative crew. I hope you all become millionaires from it!

Great show for young (and not so young) kids
kaelcarp26 February 2007
It's all about using your imagination, which is absolutely the most important thing for young kids. As Einstein said, "imagination is more important than knowledge." The show is filled with endless creativity, including characters, concepts, and wordplay, that can entertain even parents.

On top of that, the "Umbilical Brothers" - Shane and David - are amazing physical actors who can convincingly behave as though they are performing a variety of actions without any props. As someone who has worked with actors before, I know this is not a skill that comes easily.

The humor is almost like Monty Python for kids. Even though it's Australian, it has a "British humor" sort of feel - lots of wordplay, fast motion scenes, etc.

Oozing With Creativity!
jill_r_davis16 November 2006
I absolutely love this show. Thanks again Noggin for wonderful, refreshingly creative and hip programming. This is television that I don't mind watching over and over with my daughter. Shane and David are amazingly talented as they are turned upside down, put in slow motion, put in reverse and a multitude of other interactive situations by the viewer. They make me laugh even more than they make my daughter laugh! In each episode they introduce the viewer to a world of new experiences in the most off-beat and wacky manner. It gives children the OK to act silly and goofy and to be creative in pretend play. I find it inspiring as a parent. It's the best new show out there in my opinion. This program keeps my 2-year-old's attention the entire time it's on.

These Guys Are Brilliant
queen_of_anarchy24 October 2007
Shane and David were well known to our family as the Umbilical Brothers - my two boys (now 14 & 16) absolutely adore them. When my younger son learned that they wanted to shoot an episode of a new children's show with his Brass Band he was ecstatic. Unfortunately the show first came to cable in Australia but has just started showing on the ABC at 8am and next Monday, 29th October 2007, will air "Marching Band". Both my sons were involved (although the older one just pretends to play the trumpet) & we are waiting, excitedly, for it to come on. I remember the day they filmed it was overcast and windy and that everyone's hats kept blowing off. But I didn't watch the filming - just dropped them off at the park then picked them back up again - so I'm really looking forward to next Monday morning.

Shane and David are wonderful!
sue-32011 January 2007
I love this show! It's a FUN learning show! My daughter is 5, and I hated her watching shows like Billy and Mandy. A cartoon about a grim reaper is just wrong - no matter how old you are! Anyway, I wanted to find shows that would be fun and educational. Especially ones that would get her imagination going. The Upside Down show is fantastic! They ask you to push a button on your "remote" and funny things happen. They might turn horizontal, or pause.. maybe speed up or turn "upside down". I find myself pushing the buttons along with my little girl! (there's a printable "remote" on the upside show section of noggin.com. the kids can color it themselves).

These guys are great. They don't talk to the kids like they're babies, and they're FUN while they teach. For example, waiting in line at the ice cream truck. The guys try to push their way forward, steal ice cream, climb in the truck.. but eventually they get their ice cream by waiting in line! My daughter and I love to sit together for this show. We both use our "remote" to help out Shane and David, and there's always something new to learn. It's a very creative show, that adults and kids can watch together!

Great Show!
corinemrsich1 October 2007
Oh please tell me they are making more episodes of this wonderful show! My son is only 2 1/2 and loves watching them pretend, but I love it for the jokes they add for the adults. My favorite was the episode with the orange golf ball and they were yelling at it like Adam Sandler does in Happy Gilmore. I feel really good about letting my son watch this show because I know that he's learning while we are both being entertained.

We watch this show on a channel called Noggin, which has a great selection of educational programs such as this one. Another favorite of ours on this channel is Jack's Big Music Show. Kids learn all about different kinds of music. It is similar to The Upside Down Show because it also has the characters talk to the camera while not talking down to the audience. I wish that more children's shows could be like The Upside Down Show and Jack's Big Music Show.

Educational in more ways than you think!
nbsmith2021 May 2008
The first time I saw this show I thought "what are these guys on?" Then I watch again, and found myself getting up at 4 am (the time it airs in my town) just to watch it. Now I have VDR so I have all the episodes on it (sadly only 13). My daughter (2) loves it, I've noticed she talks more (says more words) including "upside down", "action fingers" among others. She also interacts with the show. Even though she has seen the episodes over and over again, it's like she seeing it again for the first time.

I am very "upset" at the fact Nickolodeon and Noggin did not ask for a second season. I hope somebody does soon, and if not, and they would only make it for DVDs that I had to purchase, I totally would! BRING IT BACK!!!!

Total entertainment
kalisamuels5 January 2008
At last a children's show that inspires their imaginations to new heights.

The show is based on two brothers living in a house with doors (and drawers) that take them to all sorts of interesting and fantastic places as they solve the days quest. The viewers help control the show with an imaginary remote control which can do all sorts of amazing things. The brothers (David and Shane) interact with the incredibly flexible Mrs Foil, puppets, young children and imaginary characters to create a world where anything is possible. Even the narrator is priceless with unpredictable door knock policies and a cricket style replay commentary. Much of the show is visual humour that really gets a 'laugh out loud' reaction from the kids and they get a real kick out of fast-forwarding, rewinding and turning the characters upside down with the remote control.

David and Shane have long been one of Australia's cleverest and funniest comedy acts(The Umbilical Brothers)and have been entertaining adult audiences for years. I was intrigued to see they were in a children's show but thought my 3½ year old son would not enjoy it as he only seems interested in animated stories. Was I wrong! He is not only glued from start to finish but interacts with the characters the whole way through. When it is over, he turns the TV off (that's never happened before!) and then plays games based on it for hours. He has always had a good imagination but this programme has taken it to whole new level and improved his vocabulary too. Best of all, it's a show we can enjoy together. We both have a really good laugh and then get to play 'remote control' all day. This is particularly handy in the evening as our remote has a 'have a bath' button and a 'go to bed button' (the 'sleep in a little later on Sunday' button is apparently broken, sadly). Congratulations to David, Shane, writers and crew on what has to be the most entertaining children's show ever!

Delicious, delectable, and DEEE-LIIIGHT-FULLL!
bullvw27 February 2007
Absolutely one of the most creative shows I've seen for young children. As a father of 6yr and 3yr old boys it's refreshing to have a show like this on TV to offer them. As others mentioned I love that they don't talk down to kids, something my wife and I have always believed in. (A 3 year old can understand and say "pediatrician" as easy as "your doctor".) As a fan of "British" humor, I love watching the shows even if the kids aren't in the room! Shane & David throw in plenty of obscure references for the enjoyment of the parents. ("Feelings, nothing more than feelings.", Batman & Robin TV show acting, to name a couple.) I've been recommending this show to all my friends with kids.

One of the best shows ever made for kids
nikiramsey5 February 2016
This is the most unique and engaging show my kids and I have ever seen. I don't let my kids watch much on TV but they can watch this show as many times as they like. My oldest son watched it as a small child and now that he's a teenager I catch him watching with his youngest brother and still laughing at the shenanigans. I feel no shame in admitting I enjoy it as well. What is a shame is that only 13 episodes were ever made.

The writing and acting are both as creative and clever as it gets. It's not about learning ABCs or counting but it's teaching kids to think outside the box, problem-solve, and use their imaginations to the fullest. It is interactive and it features children of all sizes, skin tones and abilities. It seems every aspect of this show was carefully crafted by early learning experts who also happen to be hilarious and clever comedians. If you are looking for a show for your children (or heck, even yourself) that promotes creative thinking and the kind of play that doesn't involve gadgets, you've found it.

The Upside Down Show is probably the greatest children's show ever written...My three year old and I watch it together and the humor gets us both giggling uncontrollably...also, I must add that I heart Shane Dundas! It is hilarious and if people don't get the humor I feel sorry for them. I heart Shane Dundas! I heart Shane Dundas I heart Shane Dundas I heart shane Dundas I heart Shane Dundas I heart Shane Dundas! I wish there were more shows that adults and kids could enjoy together...I love the outright silliness. I was so excited about this show that I immediately got online to find out what else these two brilliant comic minds have done..I need to check out the umbilical brothers...I really need to convey that this show is so so so funny and interactive we love it!!!

My Son is mesmerized by your show!
cremetch7 November 2007
I am so impressed with your show! My 3 year old will not go down for a nap until he watches your show! He adores Shane and David and often says he wants to grow up "just like David". His favorite episodes are the "Ice cream" one and the "Art Museum" one. He laughs so hard when David and Shane go to the "Sticky Room" I think I have to change his pants!

I believe with all the violence and weird cartoons that are on TV now you are truly great roll models! Good for you and I think you deserve more credit then you are given! Keep it up! I only wish the show was on more after 5 PM CST because I think you would have more of an audience! Thank you for all you do and for letting me share my opinion!

Really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational show
Catherine_Grace_Zeh24 July 2007
Wow! This is a really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational show. I said that because I watch this on the Noggin network with my 2½-year-old nephew from time to time. It's hard to say which show on the Noggin network is the best. If I had to pick, this would definitely be one of the most fun. Still it's really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that the people at the Noggin network really know how to reach a toddler's developing mind. Now, in conclusion, if you have children, nieces, or nephews, I strongly recommend this really cute, fun, entertaining, and educational show. I guarantee you that they will enjoy it.

The Upside Down Show: A Magical and Wacky World Worth Exploring
hdoerr-0210821 January 2024
I loved The Upside Down Show when it first premiered during my childhood years! The show was a delight, and I always looked forward to tuning in each week. The show's concept was unique and creative - two brothers exploring a magical and wacky world where everything is upside down.

The comedic timing of the two brothers was impeccable, and their chemistry on screen was undeniable. I loved how they interacted with each other and the audience, often breaking the fourth wall and encouraging participation. The show was entertaining and educational, as it taught valuable life skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.

The visuals and set design were also top-notch. The beautifully crafted upside-down world and the attention to detail were impressive. The bright colors, zany props, and quirky characters made the show visually stimulating and kept me engaged throughout each episode.

Overall, give this Noggin show an 8 out of 10 stars. It was a fantastic show, and I still remember it with fond memories. The show was suitable for all ages and had something for everyone to enjoy. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun show to watch with family or friends!

how many times can the word 'brilliant' be used to describe this show?
acts212022 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
But honestly, no other word fits.

These guys are hysterical; my kids turned me on to them, and I LOVE them. They are charming, witty, outrageous. The puns are atrocious - which of course means their fantastic. They were looking for a cow bell, and couldn't find one, so the one says to the other "Looks like you get the prize." "What prize?" "The No-Bell prize." I especially love the "instant replay" voice overs, done like golf announcers.

It seems to have some similarities to shows like "The Monkeys," "Monty Python," and "Pee-Wee's Playhouse", but has developed its own style and flavor, so that it is nothing like any of those shows, but takes the best of all of them.

If you liked Pee-Wee's playhouse, you will LOVE this show. If you didn't like Pee-Wee's playhouse, you will LOVE this show - because it has everything that was fun about the show, but none of the annoying things. No screaming, no talking chairs, no ugly suits. They do different voices, incredible physical comedy, great pantomime, and they're both cute.

This show needs to last; it is truly remarkable.

we love Shane and David!
meegangarrity18 January 2008
Our family is a big fan of the Upside Down Show! My son has written them letters asking for them to come to our house (something he's never done with any other "character"). We don't know where to send fan mail so please respond with an appropriate address if one is known. My two children, 4 and 3, enjoy all of the episodes and were hooked from the first show! The interactive nature and silliness of the "boys" keeps us smiling from beginning to end and we hope that the shows stars and creators will consider making more episodes! My son and daughter especially love Shane and David and look forward to some new episodes. My son is also awaiting the arrival of the "boys" at our house - he knows that Australia is a far away country (this has turned into a geography lesson as well)and that it may take some time, but loves that fact that they are "real people" and may actually respond. Thanks again for your efforts and successes in creating a fabulous show! Meegan

worth even a parent's time
skipj13 May 2007
A show you will love along with your kids. Inventive, manic, imaginative, educational . . . my daughter, age 4, walks around the house with an imaginary remote control and pretends to alter the world and herself. In the car last week she introduced me to her friend 'Fido' (borrowed from Shane and David) with whom she went on to have a delightful interaction and conversation. Putting her to bed the other night led to some adventures of ACTION fingers across her pillow and covers. I love this show. My only complaint, I can't find it on DVD!!! This was my introduction to these guys, whom I have learned are better known as "The Umbilical Brothers" and that they have a terrific stage show that tours internationally. My wife and I caught their performance a few weeks ago and it was adult content delivered with the same zany energy that comes across in their children's show. Talented guys and a wonderful concept for children's television. I've read somewhere that there may not be a second season as they don't see themselves as children's entertainers. If they don't, their one season of the Upside Down Show will become a classic.

Great show
bass-924 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, have to agree with the others. My 3.25 year old really loves it, it's one of the few shows that really grabs his attention. (That and "Max & Ruby", oddly enough)

But these guys and the writers and directors are great! Amazing energy, brilliant mix of improv and tightly scripted events and dialog. I often feel compelled to watch an episode til the end, even though I have to leave for work.

Love the whole "instant replay" trick, where the voice-over is done in golf tournament commentator style, complete with polite applause in the background - cracks me up every time! (Okay, maybe not really a "spoiler", but I didn't want to take a chance and invoke the wrath of the IMDb overlords...)

My 5 year old son, just loves your show. You seem to make a way to make each child in your audience feel they are special. I love the way that my child can not only use his imagination but his mind as well. Not only does he get your jokes, but I do as well. Your show is the one that I do not mind having on. My son just gets a kick the way you use the remote and interacts with him. He really laughs out loud the way you goto other rooms and is surprised with each one you goto. He does not have a favorite among you, as he loves you both. Thank you so much for such a wonderful show. I look forward to seeing more of it and seeing you expanding the many characters you have.
