This episode was the first American prime time television series finale.
This is the last time Hugh Beaumont receives credit for directing anything. For all the years he was in the entertainment industry, he assumed the role of director only for this series, his debut as director occurring in season 3 for Wally and Alma (1960).
This episode was the final time Hugh Beaumont played Ward Cleaver. When the reunion movie, Still the Beaver (1983), first aired, Beaumont had died about eight months earlier and Ward had died in 1977, according to his headstone in that movie. The reunion movie was dedicated to Beaumont.
Erroneously regarded as the first American prime time series finale. Two years earlier, ABC-TV's "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" had aired a special five-part series finale that wrapped up the program's premise.
None of cast knew it was the last episode.
