Good Old Fashioned Fun
neener370719 April 2018
I was worried it would fall into the pitfalls of comedy sequels like Anchorman 2, American Reunion, and Zoolander 2, films that just were not nearly as funny as their genius predecessors. But thankfully this film did not disappoint me as many comedy reboots/sequels do, I found myself laughing hard at many of the silly and outlandish situations and jokes. I laughed much harder than the aforementioned sequels. And the film, like the first, does not take itself seriously, it knows the first is a cult classic and they don't try to out shine it, they just are as they are. One should not come to such a film thinking they will experience emotional, introspective, and thought provoking cinema, this is a silly old fun time that had me laughing several times, a long with everyone else in the theater,

And as far as it goes as a sequel to such a cult classic, they honestly could have done infinitely worse knowing how some reboots/sequels have turned out. Like I said before it doesn't try to outshine the first, but rather play on the things that made the first one so great. Its stupid, but fun. And without giving too much away, there are more than one joke relating to the original that fans such as myself will enjoy seeing. So no, it had no beautiful cinematography, had no introspective character development, and had no greater message, but honestly, who gives a s***, it a fun and stupid movie that I enjoyed because I knew this film was intended to not be taken seriously, its a comedy for crying out loud. People will review saying its lame, but don't listen, hey are flat out wrong.

The Boys Are back... & Show Their Age... Or Maybe We Do?
dootmoot12 July 2018
The first Super Troopers came out 17 years ago, and while the first movie is extremely funny, and the other Broken Lizard movies, like Beerfest & the Slammin Salmon, are funny, this movie either tries too hard to be a rehash of the first, or the comedy just doesn't hold up the same over time.

You don't really get to see much of the boys actually out as "cops" until the second half of the movie, as the first half is mostly spent on "fish out of water" stuff, aka America vs Canada shtick that isn't all that funny. The whole "Canada is different than America, Eh? Soorry!" stuff didn't appeal to my funny bone, but once the boys hit the "crisis" point in the movie and had to actually hit the road as "cops," there were some good moments. I just wish it didn't take so long to get there. From that point, it's kind of a paint by numbers Super Troopers 1 plot remade for a sequel.

It's pretty much a one time watch, then forget.

Oh, and the funniest part in the entire film is a Fred Savage cameo that happens during the credits, so don't miss it. They build up to it during the film.

'Super Troopers 2' is More of the Same But in Canada, eh!
Stars-and-popcorn24 April 2018
17 years ago one of the greatest comedies of the new millennium was bestowed upon us. Over the years 'Super Troopers' has been a movie that we all could count on to make us laugh or settle arguments over what to watch on Netflix. Needless to say, it set a pretty high bar and I'll be honest, there was a bit of doubt in my mind that 'Super Troopers 2' could live up to it. It's been such a long time and the movies that comedy troupe Broken Lizard has made since then have never quite managed to capture the same lightning in a bottle that the first one did. Luckily, 'Super Troopers 2' manages to touch on everything we loved about the original without losing any inspiration.

'Super Troopers 2' brings back all the mustachioed troopers you loved from the first film, including Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske, and Paul Soter. This time though the troopers are sent over the border into Canada to help transition a town into becoming part of America. Of course, at this point no one really wants to be part of America, so they're met with plenty of resistance not just from the local townsfolks, but also the Mounties that have to turn over the keys to the kingdom. It doesn't take long for our heroes to resort to their shenanigans and even come up with a few new pranks as well. Luckily though, they stumble upon a mystery to solve just in time to save them from themselves.

As hilarious as the Broken Lizard troupe is I was delighted by their choices to play the three Mounties, which included Will Sasso, Tyler Labine, and Hayes MacArthur. All of whom play their roles as hilariously cliched Canadians with French accents, a love for hokey, and plenty of "sorries" to go around. They're not the only new faces you'll recognize though with plenty of cameos from the likes of Clifton Collins Jr, Sean William Scott, and Damon Waynes Jr. As if that wasn't enough, even Rob Lowe makes an appearance as the brothel-owning mayor of the town (don't worry, it's legal in Canada). These fresh faces are probably what helps prevent 'Super Troopers 2' from resorting to too many of the jokes we all loved to in the first one and they're welcome additions to the film.

What makes 'Super Troopers 2' work so well is that it knows why people loved the first one so much. Sure there's an overall plot to the movie, but it's interspersed with scenes that serve no real purpose other than to be hilarious. For example, at one point the Troopers steal the Mounties uniforms and pull people over to prank them. The film manages to recreate those scenes we loved in the original but puts a new twist on them as they speak with ridiculous accents, pull cars over on horses, and even meet a driver they pulled over all those years ago. It's incredibly satisfying to see a sequel that doesn't try to do everything the first film did, but at the same time doesn't try to reinvent the wheel.

It's easy to tell how much Broken Lizard enjoyed making 'Super Troopers 2,' which makes it so easy to laugh along with them. There's something pure about a movie that's made for fun with the sole purpose of making people laugh. Sure, there are plenty of parts in the film that are underwhelming. The locations are often underutilized, the plot serves to carry the team from joke to joke, and it still has that low budget feel that forced the first film to be so creative. In a lot of ways, 'Super Troopers 2' is not a good movie. Then again, it doesn't have to be. Like I always say, "Not all great movies are good."

There have been some really great comedies this year from 'Blockers' to 'Game Night.' While 'Super Troopers 2' might not have the same quality that made those films so great, it's definitely one that fills the theater with laughter. It's hard to be made at its shortcomings though. After all, movies are meant as escapism. To help get away from all the crap going on in your life. I'm certainly not against films having deeper, meaningful messages, but sometimes you just want something stuffed with stupid fart jokes. In that regards, 'Super Troopers 2' is a resounding success. If you loved the first one, then you're going to have a blast seeing the old gang back together again. I know I did.

Super Troopers 2: Quite an improvement
Platypuschow22 January 2019
My stance on Super Troopers (2001) was one of mediocrity, it wasn't bad, it wasn't good, it was just a run of the mill average comedy (But still better than the nonsense Broken Lizard normally put out)

I think few would have expected a sequel 17yrs later, but here it is and it's actually quite a bit better. With most of the original cast, Jay Chandrasekhar directing/writing/starring and a host of famous names joining the roster I actually walked away marginally impressed.

There are some genuine laugh out loud moments and for the most part the humor is consistent and rapid fire. So why 6/10? Well though it's certainly funnier and lined with a large amount of talent it's still hampered by the same host of flaws.

For a start most of the leads are really underwhelming, they're like "Friends of the stars" who have been given roles (As you often see). Except here they're the leads and totally out of their league, they just don't impress and pale in comparison to the rest of the cast.

Some jokes miss their mark, the finale was kind of pants, the actors doing Canadian accents were just dreadful and though this would be a high 6/10 it's still not something I'd consider "Good".

Perfectly watchable stuff, a big improvement on the last film, but don't expect any split sides.

The Good:

Great side cast

Some funny moments

Emmanuelle Chriqui and her secret to eternal youth!

The Bad:

Awful accents

Some really weak pivotal cast members

Warning: Spoilers
Super Troopers 2 is, for a better or worse, exactly the movie one would expect. In tone, story, structure, and style, there are very few surprises in how everything plays out. Yet, while this may viewed by some as a weakness, it's also one of the biggest strengths of the film: a rabid desire to meet fan expectations and deliver consistent, non-stop jokes. Hardly 30 seconds go by in any scene without there being one big joke delivered, whether that be through a quip, slapstick bit, a funny callback to the first Super Troopers, or a visual gag. This would be a problem if the jokes weren't funny or Broken Lizard appeared to be trying too hard, but I would say the jokes hit 70-75% of the running time. The movie has the fun atmosphere of Super Troopers maintained, while looking slightly more polished in its cinematography, and having slightly more focus in terms of focus and pacing. Running a slim 85 minutes before ending credits, Super Troopers 2 is completely dedicated to making the audience laugh and wrapping up its story as quickly as possible. Again, maybe that can be seen as a fault, but it's refreshing to see a studio-released comedy these days that's not two hours with filler that should have stayed on the cutting room floor. This is simply a lowbrow comedy sequel made only for fans of the original, and there's no shame in that. For those fans like myself, Super Troopers 2 is probably the most rewarding, fun comedy in years. 8/10

So many Liter-a-Cola's

After a horrible opening scene opposed to the amazing one the first installment featured. I thought this movie and my dreams where doomed and to be crushed! But after 10 or 15 minutes in I was thrilled to be laughing yet again at the goofball genius that is The Broken Lizard Boys. Bad plot and all the movie still offered plenty of laughs and tasteless humor I so enjoy. Farva once again shinned above all and the new Canadian "Farva" had me Rolling! "who wants creme fraiche?...ok no creme fraiche!" All in all a pretty good follow up to a cult classic and one of my favorites and I am proud to be a crowd funding contributor!

Different humor than the first film
steve104925 April 2018
I don't really understand all of the 7+ star reviews on IMDB. I saw this movie last night and was really psyched for it since I was a fan of the original film. But this film didn't really deliver on the comedy like the first one did. The comedy in Super Troopers 2 felt more like conventional fart joke and raunchy humor, whereas the first film had a more prankster humor about it. I actually felt like the humor is Super Troopers 2 was a major departure from the humor in all of the other Broken Lizard films like Club Dread and Beerfest. The first film felt like the story came first and the jokes followed. This film felt like the storyline was centered around the jokes and the jokes came first. But the jokes just weren't as memorable or as funny as the first film. No funny quotable jokes. And the Mounties in the film didn't really add anything especially funny in terms of jokes. I hope that if I rewatch Super Troopers 2 on TV in a few months from now that maybe the humor will click for me on the second or third watch around. But I just didn't think the film was that funny and it felt like a totally different humor than the first film. But that happened to other long awaited comedy sequels as well. Like In Dumber and Dumber To, Harry and Lloyd came off as mean spirited and cruel whereas in the original, they were just naive and more innocent. Not sure why the comedy styling changes in the some of these sequels.

The plot is terrible, but it doesnt need to be good
gilgie7420 April 2018
I went and saw this as a double feature with the original. Hadnt watched the original in years but it was fun to see again. The second one is just like the first. Bad plot, funny movie. I laughed harder than I have in the theater in a long time. The comedy is at times, brilliant, stupid, uncomfortable, memberberry, but it is pretty constant throughout with making you laugh. My stomach still hurts a bit. Anyone who is bashing this movie in a review....I dont know what they expected, but this one is worth a watch. If you liked the first one, you should like this one.

Mixed feelings about this one....
jackwarchibald27 April 2018
I guess you can view Super Troopers 2 two ways:

On one hand, it's a sharp, witty, fine film to watch if you're at a party with a huge group of friends.

On the other, it's a bland, stale movie that really offers nothing new and is virtually the same film as its predessecor.

Me myself, I didn't mind it that much. I sat there in the theatre with my popcorn and my M n' Ms thinking that it was at least better than Blockers and Game Night.

I'm giving this one a B or on iMDB, a 7/10.

Huge Disappointment
balancingthedark11 August 2018
Why wait nearly 2 decades just to make a crowd-funded box of crap? This movie is nowhere near the realm of being remotely as funny, enjoyable or memorable as the original. It's like they didn't even try.

As a big fan of the first Super Troopers movie, I was a little worried going into this one. But I found it hilarious. There's also a few in jokes for fans of the original. The Broken Lizard boys are comic geniuses

Was this worth the wait?
scottollquist22 July 2018
After watching the first Super Troopers film half a dozen times - with each time seeming funnier than the previous - I was so looking forward to the long awaited sequel. Although I was disappointed with it overall, it was still funny enough for a decent rating mainly because the Broken Lizard team work so well together. A number of gags missed the mark and the Mounties accents were incredibly annoying but this is still a good movie to turn your mind off and enjoy the ride. Definately better than any Adam Sandler movie released in the last 20 years!

Meow!
kaptenvideo-8987523 April 2018
Here comes the sequel to 2001's cult comedy bringing loads of more of the same. This is probably not a bad thing, considering "Super Troopers 2" was crowd-funded at IndieGoGo - so there must have been a considerable number of fans asking for extra helping.

When a border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the Super Troopers are tasked with establishing a Highway Patrol station in the disputed area. Writing and starring Broken Lizard comedy gang (of course), plus some other faces you'll be happy to see again, such as Brian Cox.

"Super Troopers 2" offers an eclectic menu of different kinds of humor, including stoner, raunchy, and obscure jokes, not to mention a distinct montypythonian vibe. So there's seemingly something for anybody with a taste for mainstream comedy.

The greatest thing about the movie is this unique vibe the gang has. Everyone has dived so eagerly into their character, embracing the "going everywhere and trying everything" kind of attitude, and the obscurity of it all...

At its best, it's so freeflowing and unpredictable - even able to go from "meh" to inspired lunacy during the same setpiece - that one can't help but be charmed a little.

There may be no one essential scene that would stick into mind like the original's "meow game". But the result is still markedly funnier and more watchable than many other recent cult comedy sequels we did not exactly need, including "Zoolander 2", "Anchorman 2", "Bad Santa 2" and "Dumb and Dumber 2".

What is bad, however, is the movie not having much of a screenplay.

Just dicking around is fine for a while, sure, but there will come a saturation point when all this constant mouthing off gets stale without a proper story or interesting characters.

Not to mention Broken Lizard's eager and tireless rehashing of the same jokes over and over again (cocky Canadians, stupid Americans, reckless cops).

"Super Troopers 2" may have enough fun moments to be worth of comedy lover's while. But even a mighty bridge can't stand without some proper base pillars.

An abomination
RennerFilms3 August 2018
Amateur actors pretending that everything they say is hilarious doesn't actually make it so. Maybe I need to be American to get all the Canadian jokes. I mean... I understand them, but they're not funny. Anti-heroes work when they're funny, not just obnoxious. None of these characters are interesting/funny in any way. I only slightly enjoyed the Lynda Carter scene. Dear god, this film cost $13.5 million?? Just think of how many quality low-budget films could have been made for the same price.

silly, but effective escapist comedy
dave-mcclain21 April 2018
"Super Troopers 2" (R, 1:40) is a crime comedy mystery which is a sequel to the 2001 cult classic "Super Troopers". Version 2.0 is again written by the Broken Lizard comedy group and again directed by cast member Jay Chandrasekhar. Most of the actors from the first one are back in action (although some merely in cameos), while the core cast includes returnees Brian Cox as Captain O'Hagen, Paul Soter as Jeff, Chandrasekhar as "Thorny", Steve Lemme as "Mack", Erik Stohlhanske as "Rabbit", and, of course, Kevin Heffernan as Rodney "Rod" Farva, the fat, obnoxious trooper the rest of his unit loves to hate.

As the action begins, this comically inept group of officers are... former officers, having all been fired for an incident which took place in between movies and is only described verbally in this one (until an amusing payoff at the end of the movie). But Captain O'Hagen comes out of retirement and gets the band back together when an unusual opportunity arises for which this group of misfits is uniquely semi-qualified. It seems that a government reassessment of the exact border between U.S. and Canada has shown that one French-Canadian town is actually in the U.S. - and is very close the area where these super ridiculous members of the Vermont State Police used to "work". The re-instated troopers are called upon to set up a Vermont State Highway patrol station in this soon-to-be added U.S. territory.

The troopers encounter plenty of challenges as they help the tiny Quebec town and its residents transition to being Americans. Besides the natural resistance of the life-long Canadians in the area, a prank-filled rivalry develops between the Super Troopers and a small group of Canadian Mounties (Will Sasso, Tyler Labine and Hayes MacArthur). The small town mayor, former Canadian ice hockey legend Guy Le Franc (Rob Lowe) seems amenable enough, and the beautiful Canadian government attaché Genevieve Aubois (Emmanuelle Chriqui) is as helpful as she can be, but the guys from Vermont are... well, themselves - and as jingoistic as you'd expect them to be. But matters get even more complicated when the guys stumble on evidence that there's more going on than simply correcting a border mistake.

"Super Troopers 2" is a silly good time. It'll likely appeal to devotees of the original and may win some new fans as well. "Super Trooper" fans will "get" more of the gags and enjoy the film a bit more than those who haven't seen the first one, but it doesn't take much to join this franchise mid-stream. (For the unitiated wanting a frame of reference, good cinematic comparisons include "Reno 911", "Dumb and Dumber" and "Talladega Nights".) This sequel brings back many of the characters and gags from the first film and features a plot that's wonderfully suited to this troupe's comedic talents. Of course, there is little that's realistic about the story or remotely high-brow about the humor, but what's there is fairly well-done and makes for enjoyable escapist comedy. "B+"

A satisfying sequel
scb_coldsteel1 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Super Troopers 2 at the theater last night. I've honestly been looking forward to this movie for a very long time. Super Troopers may be a dumb movie, but I love it.

Overall Super Troopers 2 did not disappoint if you are a fan. Everything that part one had is still here. All the cast returns for more glorious stupid humor shenanigans. Acting wise I love all these guys together. They have so much genuine chemistry together they just seem like they're having fun at every scene.

I found myself laughing constantly just how dumb everything was, but in a good way. This is definitely the kind of movie you check your mind at the door.

Story-wise the movie was fairly flimsy, but the first Super Troopers wasn't known for its elaborate plot line either. Pretty much any advancement of story we're just excuses for a jokes set up.

Part 2 did rest pretty heavily on the jokes from part one though. The movie was a continuation of the same sex, drugs, and juvenile humor found in the first. Normally I would hate this kind of movie, but the first Super Troopers has a special place in my heart.

This is by no means a smart comedy or an exceptionally well-made movie, but I had fun watching it. Any fan of the original should definitely go ahead and see it, but if you've never seen the first you can probably go ahead and skip this. A 6.75 out of 10.

Absolute travesty compared to first movie
igypoo20 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Its got the same actors as the first but none of the chemistry, all of the reasons to watch the first was removed: the banter and jokes between the crew are cringy, forced and unrealistic, its like its been hollywoodised with these absurd and insanely slapstick pranks like "Theres a bear in the station! What do we do?" Nothing like the first which had clever and more obscure comedy. Some off the jokes felt unfinished, like the part Farva meets his canadian counterpart, literally nothing happens, and when he drinks 10 litres of coke resulting in him to take a piss so they could slap a fart joke in. All the jokes fell flat in my opinion, what was it with the rubbish puns? I cant remember that being in the first. Oh and the whole gag with the guy eating womens hormones was just repetative and blatant. Even the story was worse than the first, the canadian cops made no sense at the ends changing their views instantly, and why does one of them start to cry and just stand there in the shootoff scene? Just so it gives them a reason to be saved and like the main cast?

Yeah so just watch the first amd leave it at that this just felt like a hollow money grab destroying the first movies charm.

Laugh-out-loud fun!
cwstiefel-683-87001619 April 2018
If you are in the mood for a deep, spiritual experience, this is not the movie for you. If you have no sense of humor, this is likewise not for you. If, however, the idea of 100 minutes of pure unadulterated fun sounds good, then you should definitely go see Super Troopers 2. The jokes never stop-sometimes silly ones, sometimes crude ones, and sometimes devilishly clever ones. The end result is a madcap romp that will keep you laughing out loud.

This movie was as good as it could possibly be for being a sequel to a dumb but funny movie in the first place. Anyone hating on this doesn't get super troopers. Is it paradigm changing? No, but it's entertaining and has more than a couple laugh out loud moments. I just don't see how anyone could've expected more. Great cameos too. Especially the guy from kids in the hall.

Similar plot but the humour is the same
stuartmacgregor-2571419 March 2021
This movie may not be as good as the original. Let's be honest the original plot to the first movie wasn't that great either. It delivers the same punchlines and comedy that the first film gave us and you just gotta respect the consistency. Overall, pleasantly surprised with the success and the delivery of the sequel. If you're expecting similar humour as the first movie you will not be disappointed. May have overplayed the cliche Canadian stereotype but regardless it is a solid sequel.
