During the 2nd robbery at the stalled car Wilber sets his gun down on the fender with the trigger towards the front of the car but when he picks it back up the trigger has changed towards the rear.
After Mrs. Carey is struck on the head for the second time. A cop and an ambulance attendant somehow diagnose a skull fracture by the side of road. And they are also able to give a good prognosis. Being knocked unconscious is a serious thing. In this case we have an elderly woman who has received two closed head injuries. And according the cop "she's going to be OK". The concussions alone would have been serious with a person of this age. But, if she does have a skull fracture. That would be a much more serious diagnosis, made after x-rays. And her prognosis would be serious to guarded. Not "OK".
Highway Patrol officers do not respond to or investigate crimes or offenses that are committed off the state highway system. These would be responded to or investigated by local or county police, not Highway Patrol officers.
While driving, Henry (Gene Reynolds) pulls over his aunt Ethel's (Marie Stoddard) car, attempting to fake a breakdown. With the hood up and her now looking in from across the right fender, Henry says, "...Probably died of old age..." Yet the car, a 1952 Ford Crestline V8 convertible, is barely 4 years old at the time this aired on January 23, 1956. 1950's automobiles were, in fact, traded in far more often than today, however this Ford is still "too new" to warrant the line "died of old age."
When Mathews kicked the gun out of Henry"s hand, he left the location with only the lie detector machine, leaving behind the gun which was evidence.
When Henry is driving Mrs. Kerry to the bank, he stops at the side of the road, pretending that the car has stalled and won't run. However, after he tells his story of the stalled car and robbery to the police, their suspicions are not aroused when he starts the car and it runs perfectly.
Both Matthews and the uniformed officer handle the matchbook, destroying any fingerprint evidence that may have been present. They also failed to take the suspect's gun into evidence after arresting him.
When Officer Peterson finishes questioning Roger Taylor he calls Dan Matthews on the telephone but dials only six numbers on the phone instead of seven.
