Liam Neeson has a very particular set of skills, which apparently does not include embodying the Easter Bunny. In a skit on The Late Show, the actor auditioned to play the furry holiday rabbit, bringing an undeniable intensity to the popular verse, “Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail. Hippity hoppity, Easter’s on its way.”
When asked to keep it light, with the producer reminding Neeson the character is for children, Neeson explained, “Do you understand what’s happening here? He’s hopping down the bunny trail,...

Liam Neeson was 56 when his career took an unexpected detour into the action hero genre thanks to 2008’s Taken, a Pierre Morel-directed surprise blockbuster that raked in more than $226 million worldwide and kick-started a franchise. He’s kept up a respectable pace ever since, churning out high-octane thrillers one after the next — and he’s not ready to hang up his holster.
“Audiences are innately intelligent and they’ll know when you’re past your prime in regards to throwing punches and firing guns, but I’m not there yet,” explained Neeson over Zoom last week while discussing his newest film, In the Land of Saints and Sinners. The Samuel Goldwyn Films release casts Neeson, who will be 72 in June, as Finbar Murphy, a man leading a relatively quiet life in the remote coastal town of Glencolmcille, Ireland, in the 1970s. While he’s eager to leave a dark past behind,...

“Hopefully my other cast members will be funny and sexy,” says Liam Neeson, expressing how nervous he is about starring in The Naked Gun remake.
You’d think that after conquering the world of action cinema, everything else would seem like a doddle, but for Liam Neeson, that isn’t the case. Following 2008’s Taken, the world became thoroughly convinced of Liam Neeson’s ‘hard man’ bona fides.
With long-standing success in that genre now secured, could Neeson be plotting a similar career trajectory to the one Tom Cruise is said to be charting? That means making a few smart choices to gradually move away from action by working with auteur directors in a carefully-staged bid to remind the world of his dramatic chops as an actor.
The answer, of course, is no. Instead, Neeson is heading to the world of absurdist comedy in a remake of 1988’s The Naked Gun.

Leslie Nielsen famously flipped his career 180 degrees when he started working with the Zuckers — David and Jerry — on the 1980 comedy Airplane! Nielsen was a seasoned dramatic actor who took his serious demeanor and used it to deliver the silliest of lines in a dry manner, resulting in some of the greatest comedy performances. Nielsen was able to become a leading man late in his career in The Naked Gun series, which would then spin him off into more leading roles in similar comedies, which would not necessarily be made by the Zuckers.
Enter Liam Neeson. The thespian has already reinvented himself when the former dramatic actor starred in 2008’s Taken, which showed that he could use his tall stature in the action genre. Neeson’s acting route would eventually land him in some comedy roles, including a self-parody guest spot on Life’s Too Short and working with Seth MacFarlane on...

Liam Neeson is proud to be involved with the Naked Gun reboot, but he's still nervous about how the comedy will turn out.
In an interview with Collider, Liam Neeson addressed his starring role in an upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun. He spoke about how his plan is to play his role as Frank Drebin, the character originally played by Leslie Nielsen, in an "absolutely straight" way, allowing the comedy to come from how that plays off of the other characters. He also admitted that he feels nervous, as he doesn't have much experience in doing this kind of comedy.

"Star Trek" is notoriously good to its actors. If a hard-working performer gets a small gig in one episode of "Star Trek," it becomes incredibly likely they'll be invited back for another. Armin Shimerman, for instance, played a talking treasure chest and a random Ferengi character on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" years before he was offered the main role of Quark on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Likewise, Tim Russ played a terrorist on the "Next Generation" episode "Starship Mine" before he became Tuvok on "Star Trek: Voyager." There are dozens of other examples. Once you're in the "Star Trek" family, you'll be a part of it for life.

Liam Neeson has made quite a name for himself playing tough-as-nails badasses. He was in excellent form as the avenging father in the 2008 English/French action thriller Taken, where he sent chills through the collective spines of his audience when he told everyone about his "special set of skills" and that death was coming for those terrible men who kidnapped his 17-year-old daughter. Neeson exudes a tough guy naturalism that fits him like a tailored glove and audiences can't seem to get enough of it. Think of films like The Grey, where we watch him duke it out with a pack of wolves for 90 minutes, or A Walk Among the Tombstones, where the actor again takes up the mantle of a grizzled ass-kicker. It would seem that Neeson and crime-thriller films are a match made in neo-noir heaven. But it all had to start somewhere at some time. That time...

Anatomy of a Fall actress Sandra Hüller could be making a roast for Akiva Schaffer’s The Naked Gun reboot, so how hot and wet do you like it? A report from industry insider Daniel Richtman says Sandra Hüller is in talks to play the romantic lead in the forthcoming comedy, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt. Frank Drebin from the Police Squad series and Naked Gun film trilogy.
In the Naked Gun trilogy, Lt. Frank Drebin falls in love with Jane Spencer (Lisa Marie Presley), an assistant for industrialist Vincent Ludwig, utterly unaware of his villainy. After a slapstick-ridden meet-cute, Frank and Jane form a heated courtship accompanied by steamy home-cooked meals, ultra-protected sex, and trips to the baseball field.

Liam Neeson has given a terrific performance across all the different genres he has starred in, as both a hero as well as a villain. A mastermind, almost all of his portrayals have been critically acclaimed worldwide, earning him the title of being one of the most renowned legendary actors of his time in Hollywood. But there was one movie that made this very legendary actor almost lose it.

This film was none other than the 1993 globally praised war/documentary masterpiece, Schindler’s List. In fact, the film had such a massive impact on Neeson that it had him weak in his knees before even the cameras rolled for his first scene — so much so that it might have been the very reason the actor ended up giving one of the best performances of his entire career!

Just a few weeks after one of the stars of the John Wick franchise, Ian McShane, ripped Lionsgate’s TV spin-off The Continental live on TV, the studio seems like it’s going full steam ahead on a John Wick TV show. According to Deadline, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said as much during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference. “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series,” said Burns, who also revealed that the studio is planning a Twilight animated series too.
Readers will remember another John Wick tv series, The Continental, dropping just a few months ago. According to Burns, the new Wick show will not be related to that series of three 90-minute telefilms, which was about the early adventures of the character played by Ian McShane in the proper John Wick movies,...

Liam Neeson's career took a major turn with the success of "Taken" in 2008, leading to a string of action movie hits. Neeson's upcoming role in "The Naked Gun" reboot marks a significant shift from his recent action roles, showcasing his comedic talent. With past experience in comedy films like "Ted 2," Liam Neeson has the perfect style to bring new life to "The Naked Gun" franchise.
Liam Neeson has had a major career change in the past, and one of his upcoming movies is primed to establish him in another genre. For most of Neeson's career, he was known for his dramatic movies like Schindler's List and Michael Collins. Some of Liam Neeson's best movies came from his time as a dramatic actor, though he had much more range than that. He has always taken various roles, even in action movies, but one of his movies marked a complete transformation for his entire career.

Did you forget that there's a reboot of the parody franchise "The Naked Gun" in the works at Paramount Pictures? Not only is the project still happening, but Paramount Pictures has announced an official release date for the comedy revamp: July 15, 2025. That means cameras should be rolling this year if they haven't already started production without us knowing.
"The Naked Gun" followed Leslie Nielsen as bumbling Los Angeles detective Frank Drebin as he encountered various plots of crime and intrigue, often getting into outlandish, slapstick situations. Based on the short-lived spoof series "The Police Squad!" that aired on ABC in 1982, the film series was infinitely more successful, resulting in two sequels that became solid box office hits. With all the nostalgia there is for rebooting previously successful titles, it was only a matter of time before Paramount circled back around to "The Naked Gun."

Seraphim Falls, with Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan, has had a notable comeback on Netflix's US top 10, showing the ever-changing landscape of movie popularity. The film initially performed poorly at the box office, earning only $1.22 million compared to its $18 million budget, but has now found new life on the streaming platform. The enduring appeal of Neeson and Brosnan, as well as the opportunities provided by digital platforms like Netflix, have contributed to the film's resurgence and its ability to find new audiences.
After a disappointing box office performance, Seraphim Falls, with Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan, has made a notable comeback on Netflix's US top 10. Eighteen years after its release, the film directed by David Von Ancken is capturing the attention of streaming audiences, showcasing the ever-changing landscape of movie popularity in the digital age.

Jason Bourne 6 is still in the early stages of development but actor Matt Damon has good reason to believe the film will be a strong addition to the franchise.
More than seven years have passed since the release of the last Jason Bourne film, which saw Matt Damon returning after The Bourne Legacy cast Jeremy Renner as the main protagonist. The Bourne films are comparable to the James Bond movies but took the spy thriller route littered with heavy stakes. The Jason Bourne film franchise is also inseparable from Matt Damon and his portrayal of the fugitive spy at this point, so it's understandable why the actor is concerned about reprising the character in future movies. Damon was just as reserved in an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert but expressed his excitement to give the sequel another go.

When Is The Netflix French Movie “The Wages Of Fear” Coming? Well, Julien Leclercq, a French filmmaker, is bringing a new action movie to Netflix in March 2024. It’s a modern retelling of a classic French thriller from the 1950s titled “The Wages of Fear.” Leclercq is not only directing the film but also co-writing and producing it.
He’s no stranger to Netflix, having already worked on several projects for the streaming platform. You might recognize his work from the action-packed series “Ganglands,” which currently has two seasons available for streaming.
While there’s no confirmation about a third season yet, Leclercq has also contributed two movies to Netflix’s catalog: “Earth and Blood” in 2020 and “Sentinelle” in 2021.
Hamid Hlioua is collaborating with Leclercq on the screenplay. Hlioua’s previous work includes contributions to “Ganglands” and the series “Cannabis” on Arte.

Seraphim Falls strongly suggests Angelica Huston's character, Madame Louise, might be the Devil in disguise. Another demonic character, Charon, makes an appearance in Seraphim Falls, further hinting at a supernatural element in the story. Seraphim Falls draws inspiration from the film Angel Heart, where the main character discovers that a supporting character is actually the Devil.
Western drama Seraphim Falls leaves a big hint that one supporting player is the Devil. The late-'00s found Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson in interesting places, careerwise. The former had been dropped as James Bond following Die Another Day and was trying to figure out his star persona outside the franchise. This led to some wildly entertaining Pierce Brosnan movies like The Matador and, of course, Mamma Mia. After playing a series of mentor roles in films such as Kingdom of Heaven or Batman Begins, Neeson was reborn as an action star thanks to 2008's Taken.

Gideon and Carver spared each other because they finally learned to let go of the past and walk away from their feud, but for different reasons. The woman in the desert, Madame Louise, symbolized the devil and offered Gideon and Carver a choice between life and death. Gideon and Carver symbolized war as a whole, and how it uses the past as a justification for violence in the present.
The ending of Seraphim Falls turns what is an extremely realistic if slow-burn Western up to that point into a largely symbolic character study. It starts as a simple cat-and-mouse chase: Carver (Liam Neeson) pursues Gideon (Pierce Brosnan) across the West to kill him for a crime Gideon committed. As Gideon and Carver make their way further into the desert, the plot of Seraphim Falls gets more confusing. New characters seemingly appear out of nowhere in the movie's final minutes, only...

Jason Statham's next film, "Levon's Trade," seems to be a mash-up of his previous movies "The Beekeeper" and "Homefront." The upcoming film needs to distinguish itself visually and tonally from "The Beekeeper" to avoid confusion among audiences. "Homefront" made the mistake of adapting the last book in the series, while "Levon's Trade" smartly adapts the first book, setting up the potential for a successful franchise.
Jason Statham's follow-up to action hit The Beekeeper really sounds like he's remaking two of his previous movies. When Statham made his debut in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, few could have predicted he would become the next big action star. Over the last 20 years, Jason Statham's action movies have become the go-to source for big screen genre fans, be it The Transporter movies, Crank, or more recent offerings like The Meg. "Made in Italy" stars a wide variety of actors and actresses from Italy, Ireland, and Scotland. Liam Neeson and Micheál Richardson star as father and son, mirroring their real-life relationship. The movie revolves around a complicated father-son relationship and the sale of their old Italian home.
Made in Italy features a cast of mostly Italian actors, which shouldn't surprise most, given the title of the movie, and two related stars from Ireland. The 2020 comedy-drama was directed and written by James D'Arcy, and the film revolves around a complicated relationship between a father and his son, who come together to sell their old Italian home and confront demons from their past. The movie had a limited theatrical release in August 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so it only grossed a little under $3 million at the box office.
Made in Italy was also released on video on demand (VOD) in August 2020, where it performed well.

Bob Odenkirk, known for his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is set to star in a new action movie called Normal. Odenkirk has had limited experience in the action genre but is poised to pursue more action roles, including the upcoming Nobody 2, which was delayed but is still in development. The potential success of Normal could lead to a career shift for Odenkirk, similar to Liam Neeson's transition into action movies.
Bob Odenkirk has signed on to star in Normal. Odenkirk is probably best known for playing the role of the untrustworthy lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and its spinoff prequel Better Call Saul, which recently concluded its run in 2022. However, he may have already found another iconic role with the 2021 action movie Nobody, in which he played an unassuming family man who fights tooth and nail to save his wife and son.

Another low-wattage weekend is hot on the heels of last weekend’s disappointing opening for Matthew Vaughn’s would-be franchise starter, Argylle. Typically, studios are wary of putting out any major movies on Super Bowl weekend, as virtually no one goes to movies on game day. That said, there have been exceptions to the rule, with Taken and Chronicle both being big openers way back in the day. In recent years, though, the numbers have been more modest, with Death on the Nile taking in $12.8 million in 2022 and Magic Mike’s Last Dance cratering with a measly $8.3 million opening last year.
This weekend’s sole wide new release, Lisa Frankenstein, isn’t likely to do much better. Initially, Box Office Pro had it opening anywhere from $7-12 million, but the early reviews have been abysmal, and now the opening is pegged from anywhere between $5-9 million. Given that it only has a $14 million budget,...

Despite poor box office performance, The Postcard Killings has landed on Netflix's Top 10 movies chart in the US. Familiarity with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen, as well as their previous work, likely contributed to the movie's success on the streaming platform. The popularity of crime TV shows on Netflix and the movie's premise of hunting down a serial killer also likely played a role in its inclusion in the Top 10 list.
A crime movie starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen that only made $181,415 at the box office is now on Netflix's Top 10 movies chart for the US. Morgan is best known for his role as Negan in The Walking Dead franchise, starring in the ongoing spinoff Dead City. Janssen was Jean Gray in the X-Men movie series, also having a prominent role in the Taken trilogy as Lenore Mills.

With a career spanning decades, Liam Neeson is arguably one of the hardest-working actors in Hollywood today, and quite rightly often considered one of Ireland’s best exports. With an incredible body of work, including Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit Schindler’s List and Neil Jordan’s 1996 biopic Michael Collins, Neeson has continued to step into uncharted territory over the years, consistently reinventing himself as he goes along. And while audiences of a certain age may tend to remember him for his more dramatic performances, younger cinephiles have come to know him as one of the world’s biggest action stars. Thanks to starring roles in Pierre Morel’s Taken and its subsequent sequels, as well as his frequent collaborations with filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, the actor spectacularly redesigned himself once again.

Liam Neeson has stated that there will not be a Taken 4 movie, and no news has surfaced to indicate otherwise. The possibility for a Taken 4 story is wide open, as the series is flexible and can go in different directions. The Taken TV series was canceled after two seasons, suggesting that fans weren't interested without Neeson as the lead.
The Taken franchise turned Liam Neeson into a surprise action hero, but could he return for a Taken 4 movie? Prior to accepting the lead role in Taken, Liam Neeson was coming off a series of projects where he played a mentor or father figure role, including Kingdom Of Heaven and Batman Begins. Taken cast Neeson as retired CIA agent Bryan Mills, who travels to Paris to rescue his daughter from a human trafficking ring. The movie's lean premise and fast-paced action, combined with Neeson's charisma, turned Taken into a surprise word-of-mouth hit.

Rick and Morty season 7 gave Morty's sister Summer a central role in episode 7, highlighting her importance as a supporting character and showing that she can join the duo on adventures without altering the show's tone. Season 7 successfully replaced Justin Roiland with unknown actors for the roles of Morty and Rick, blending seamlessly into the show without drawing attention to the change. Thelma is a charming little film. One that might make moviegoers want to call or hug their grandmothers.
The dilemma of aging is inescapable. But Thelma’s another film that shows the resilience and humor of getting to the golden years. In a sense, it has commonalities with the Grumpy Old Men films. Only here, it’s a 93-year-old woman using the minimal skills she has left to solve a mystery.
To put it mildly, if watching a suspenseful chase on scooters was on the cinematic bucket list, Thelma is the movie to watch.
Written and directed by Josh Margolin, Thelma revolves around a 93-year-old woman named Thelma, who is still quite agile for her age. Thelma is quite fond of her grandson Danny (played by Fred Hechinger), who teaches her how to use a computer at the beginning of the movie.
Despite her stability, Thelma still needs to use a LifeAlert device.

When Liam Neeson starred in Taken, he probably did not know he was going to be the face of the revitalized revenge thriller genre of action movies. Since then, he has starred in dozens of action films playing a similar type of character: a person whose attempt at a normal life is thwarted when their violent past must be revisited to seek vengeance. Neeson is not the only one who has mastered this form. Denzel Washington has found great success in the Equalizer franchise. Keanu Reeves may take the crown for this archetype thanks to his spectacular run of John Wick films. But those movies go a little beyond Taken in terms of world-building and focusing on more than a simple tale of revenge.

While I’m pretty sure that only parents can properly fathom the indescribable horror of discovering that your child is missing, I think anyone can relate to the desperation of losing a loved one. That’s why it makes sense that this premise has been used as a jumping off point for all sorts of revenge narratives since time immemorial, with badass protagonists often doing whatever it takes to either recover or avenge missing family members.
However, there is one film that explores a much less glamorous side of these cinematic vendettas, and that would be Denis Villeneuve’s 2013 thriller Prisoners, a modern classic that explores just how far a desperate man might go when he’s convinced that his terrible actions are completely justified.

The Nobody sequel promises to deliver the same story beats as the first film while Bob Odenkirk's character attempts to start over and mend strained family relationships.
Bob Odenkirk proves he can carry an action movie on his shoulders in Nobody, director Ilya Naishuller's 2021 sleeper hit. The film is Odenkirk's full foray into hard-hitting action following an exceptional run in Better Call Saul as Saul Goodman / Jimmy McGill. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things gets an 18 certificate for its UK release – but it’s been cut even to get that. More here.
A decade or so ago, stories such as this were a little more commonplace, with distributors making small cuts to their films to get a desired certificate in the UK. We got tales such as Taken and Die Hard films being trimmed so they could land in British cinemas with family friendly ratings, bizarrely.
However, in the case of Poor Things, the new film from director Yorgos Lanthimos, cuts have had to be made to secure a release at all.
As per the BBFC website, Disney showed the film to the board for advice before formally submitting it for classification. This is something that the board offers with films, whereby you can make any trims before you go for a formal submission.

Although the action genre is traditionally associated with younger stars who are at the peak of their physicality, the most successful action films of the 21st century have been those that feature older heroes. Movie stars like Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron, and Harrison Ford have dominated the action genre, despite being slightly past their prime. Two stars who have dominated action cinema this century are Denzel Washington and Liam Neeson, and their career arcs are very similar. Both actors first established themselves in the late 1980s as sensitive, bold dramatic actors, and earned a series of accolades for their success. It was surprising to see someone like Washington, who is more closely associated with more grounded stories, take on an epic action film at a late stage in his career when he starred in 2004’s Man on Fire; likewise, Neeson caught viewers by surprise when he popped up...

January is not, historically, a great month for new movies. Awards season films will often expand nationwide to help class up the joint, but as far as brand new offerings go, it can be tough sledding. One benefit is that we frequently get an off-the-wall action movie. After all, January is the month that gave us Liam Neeson's unexpected action star turn in "Taken." January 2024 will give one of our hardest-working modern action stars, Jason Statham, the chance to shine in the very silly-looking "The Beekeeper." But can this movie's bonkers premise lure enough moviegoers in to make it a bona fide box office hit?
