Lily's great uncle Boris is on holiday from Russia and is staying with her mother and grandmother. However, there are political conflicts between Boris and Lily's grandmother, and grandmother leaves home. She imposes herself on the Brownes, but her presence is a source of irritation to Matt and so he goes around to her place to do his work. To get over the problem, Lily decides to put her grandmother up in a neighbour's flat, which is supposed to be empty.
