DOBIE AND MAYNARD, FRIENDS, NOT ROOMATES!
An episode that may have inspired many later sitcoms, all about being a REALLY restless teen. Dobie finds living at home ain't too swell anymore --- his mom treats him like a baby and his dad lays down TOO many rules.
What to do about it? MOVE OUT ASAP.
And that's what Dobie does, though lacking the necessary cash flow. Naturally, Maynard enters the picture and somehow, someway the guys manage to get their own shabby, little apartment -- and about everything that goes with it. You have to give the set decorators an "A plus" for creativity, the apartment is a complete shambles.
More over, Dobie and Maynard's experiment in independence is short lived, what with lots of unforseen problems, foremost a warm and delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner!
It's also a duel between father and son egos. Who will give in first, and does Winnie save the day?
Good support from veteran character actress Esther Dale as Mrs. Finch, the landlady --who wants her dough! Esther was in endless classic films, and retired not too long after this episode.
Top direction by Guy Scarpitta, who also served as series associate producer, later behind PETTICOAT JUNCTION and GREEN ACRES. The only episode written by Sumner Long, who wrote for the DONNA REED SHOW.
A good, old fashioned tug of war for the Gillis men of the house. SEASON 1, EPISODE 28 remastered. 5 dvd set. Released 2020.
