- Two women in a long-term relationship are forced to re-evaluate their life together, after continually stumbling over the same obstacle their relationship faces: intimacy. When communicating always turns to fighting, sexuality is questioned, and desire looms, Lane must decide if her own happiness is worth losing the woman she loves. Based on a true story.—Lauryn Green
- Story:
Lane and Amber have been together a long time: over four years. They have their friends, Marie and Erin, over for a game night and as soon as their friends leave, tension builds when Lane wants to have sex and Amber doesn't. Over breakfast with Marie the next morning, Lane shows how her self-esteem has been impacted and tells Marie about how she and Amber haven't had sex in over a year. Later, Lane tries again to have sex with Amber and is turned down again. The next day, Lane tries to talk with Amber and figure out why she never wants to do anything intimate, but the conversation proves too difficult for Amber. Lane postpones the conversation to give Amber time to think.
Lane goes out to a bar with Marie to get her mind off her and Amber's problems, but only encounters another problem: Deena, who flirts with Lane and gives Lane her phone number. Deena clearly wants to offer Lane what she's been missing, but Lane is hesitant. Later that night, Lane is drunk as Amber gets home from work and tries to talk to her again about their intimacy problem. Amber is not receptive and Lane gets mad. Their conversation soon turns into a fight, where Lane questions Amber's sexuality. The fight ends with Lane retreating to the living room for the night and Amber is left upset.
The next morning, Lane is at breakfast with Marie and begins to realize Amber isn't happy either. Later, Lane and Amber are fighting again about their happiness. Lane ends up drunk again, downtown with Deena, who invites her to stay the night. Lane declines the invitation because she doesn't want to cheat on Amber and stays faithful. When Lane returns home, she and Amber fight again.
The following day, Lane breaks up with Amber. Amber doesn't take the news well and blames the decision on Lane and the girl she's been hanging out with (Deena). Lane breaks down when Amber storms away. That night, Lane goes on a drinking binder, where Deena makes an appearance. Eventually, Deena aggressively kisses Lane at the bar. Lane drunkenly makes it back to her and Amber's home, where she finds Amber has a male friend over in their bedroom. Lane cries herself to sleep on the couch.
A new day: Lane is at breakfast with Marie, who is telling her everything will be okay and what happened is for the best. Lane then makes her way down a crowded sidewalk, alone, and stops for a coffee. She ends up in a park, watching people go by. She sees a lesbian couple walk by, holding hands, and is saddened. Lane has a quiet and slow drive home. Lane enters her bedroom, which is now empty except for a couple items. She slides down the wall where the bed used to be and finds Deena's phone number still in her jacket. She crumples the phone number and throws it aside, leans her head against the wall, closes her eyes, and sighs, knowing she has to start her life over.
