Avengers: Secret Wars in the McU's Phase 6 may feature many new and returning MCU heroes, including the new Fantastic Four. If Avengers: Secret Wars follows the storyline of Marvel Comics' 1984 Secret Wars event, the Fantastic Four may lose a member in Phase 6. Several MCU heroes could temporarily join the Fantastic Four after Avengers: Secret Wars, including She-Hulk, Ant-Man and Spider-Man.
The events of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars in Phase 6 of the MCU may allow an unexpected hero to join the ranks of the new Fantastic Four. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed the development of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2022, with the project set to bring the McU's Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga to an epic conclusion. Currently scheduled for release in 2027, the McU's Avengers: Secret Wars may be based on Marvel Comics' 1984 and 2015 Secret Wars events, hinting at past Marvel characters returning, and at incursions perhaps changing the shape of the MCU forever.

Ben Mendelsohn, who played Talos in the MCU, wants to play Doctor Doom and thinks the character should be done justice. Mendelsohn's Talos recently died in Disney+'s Secret Invasion. Doctor Doom should soon make his debut in the MCU, possibly in the Fantastic Four movie or in the two upcoming Avengers films.
A Marvel Cinematic Universe star whose character recently died wants to be recast as Doctor Doom. Throughout the McU's best movies and series, the franchise has seen some truly amazing villains. However, few MCU foes — and Marvel Comics villains as a whole — can stand alongside Doom. With the arrival of Doctor Doom in the MCU coming closer, a previous star of the franchise wants to play the villain.
The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer sparked conversation about Doctor Doom's possible covert MCU debut.
Speaking to GQ, MCU Talos actor Ben Mendelsohn revealed he wants to play Doctor Doom.

The Marvels failed to address major unanswered questions from Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion, leaving more loose ends for future Multiverse Saga projects to address. Among The Marvels' unanswered questions are the status of Monica Rambeau's superhero name, Valkyrie and Captain Marvel's relationship, and the true nature of the Quantum Bands. The events of Secret Invasion are completely ignored in The Marvels, leaving the future of Skrulls on Earth and the whereabouts of Nick Fury's wife unknown.
There are still many MCU loose ends and unanswered questions after the release of Marvel Studios' The Marvels. The sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel released in November 2023, marking the return of Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, to the MCU. He’s acted with Anthony Hopkins and Laurence Oliver, had two No1 singles and fooled the nation in a spoof documentary. Ask him anything, but keep it respectful
There’s a lot more to Neil Morrissey than you might think. His first ever film role was opposite Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins and Laurence Olivier in 1984 historical mariner drama, The Bounty. He’s appeared with Martin Clunes as a fictitious former new romantic pop group in Hunting Venus and was in the film adaptation of the John Godber rubbish-rugby team drama Up ‘n’ Under. On stage, he’s tackled Robin Hood, Guy and Dolls and Oliver. And he’s had two No 1 singles, Can We Fix It and Mambo No 5, under his guise as the voice of a certain children’s TV character, Bob the Builder.

There is no dearth of women-led crime thrillers and police procedurals out there. But the Veronica Mars-shaped hole left in our hearts in the early aughts was never properly filled. Not even a Hulu revival could do the underrated gem justice, as they dropped it after only one season. Mars (played by Kristen Bell) had a spunk that appealed to the Millennial soul that grew up on Nancy Drew, Secret Seven, and Hardy Boys.

Rhodey, also known as War Machine, has not appeared in his supersuit since Avengers: Endgame, sparking speculation and theories. One theory suggests that Rhodey may be hesitant to wear the War Machine armor due to the lack of someone capable of fixing it after Tony Stark's death. The introduction of Riri Williams/Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could potentially revitalize War Machine's heroics and allow for the continuation of Tony Stark's legacy alongside Rhodey.
One genius MCU theory explains why one character in the franchise has not been seen in their supersuit since Avengers: Endgame. The final film of the Infinity Saga is undoubtedly the biggest in Marvel Studios' run, from the nearly $2.8 billion box office haul to the amount of characters in Avengers: Endgame's final battle. Of those heroes who fought in the Battle of Earth, there are several who have since returned for projects...

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Marvel's Echo
The MCU has set up a major comic book storyline, suggesting that Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) will become the mayor of New York and pose a threat to heroes like Daredevil and Spider-Man. Kingpin may try to outlaw vigilantism in New York, which happened in the comics and resulted in Fisk hiring a team to enforce his new law, impacting many heroes operating in the city. The successful mayoral campaign of Kingpin may have ripple effects to other MCU projects, including Spider-Man, the Young Avengers, Thunderbolts, and potentially more heroes. "Mayor Kingpin" could also become a key antagonist in Spider-Man 4.
The MCU just set up a major comic book storyline which will likely affect both Daredevil and Spider-Man. As seen in the ending of Marvel's Echo, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'onofrio) is looking to expand his power and influence over New York to new heights.

A video for film pre-production tech appears to show an early glimpse of Sony’s upcoming Gravity Rush movie. Patapon also makes a surprise appearance.

The Mandalorian season 3 is the most-watched streaming original in 2023 for U.S. viewers, surpassing Ted Lasso and The Witcher. Star Wars is Disney+'s top hit in terms of original content, with only one Marvel show making it to the top five. There's a surprising gap before Ahsoka, highlighting a potential lack of pop culture impact for other sub-franchises within Star Wars.
The Mandalorian season 3 has officially been ranked the most-watched streaming original of 2023 for U.S. viewers, beating competition from the likes of Ted Lasso and The Witcher. It's something of a truism that any streaming service is only as good as the range of original content; this is especially true at this stage in the streaming wars, as various apps compete to gain and keep subscribers. Unfortunately, streaming services are notoriously reluctant to give an idea how things have actually performed. The best indications usually come from third-party analytics companies.

A rumor surrounding Avengers 5 suggests that fans may have to wait longer for the newest cinematic outing of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
The rumor in question from The Cosmic Circus writer Alex Perez, who commented in a post on X, "Be advised: Avengers 5 is Not coming out 2026. There is still much work to be tended to and too much to be set up before they can dive deep into the upcoming Avengers movie." That said, neither Marvel nor Disney have confirmed this, so such a claim should be taken with a grain of salt. Meanwhile, the rumor is getting attention on social media as fan speculation continues over what will happen next with Kang in the MCU.

The presence of mutants in the MCU was set up by the villains of Phase 1, indicating Marvel's long-term plan. The "Superhuman Gene" mentioned in Secret Invasion is synonymous with the "X-Gene" of the comics, explaining the origin of mutants. Characters like Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel may possess the Superhuman Gene, explaining their abilities without being referred to as mutants.
MCU Phase 5 has cemented the presence of mutants with the likes of The Marvels even going so far as to feature one of Fox's X-Men characters, but one Marvel theory suggests that the X-Men revelation was set up by the villains of MCU Phase 1. With Marvel now in full control of the word "mutant," there is no reason for the MCU to skirt around ascribing the term to characters like Ms. Marvel. Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 4 can bring back an MCU villain that was previously teased back in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Spider-Man: Far From Home's teased villain could return to the MCU using Natasha Romanoff's Widow's Veil to retain his superhuman abilities from his decades-long Marvel Comics career. The return of Spider-Man: Far From Home's villain in Spider-Man 4 could help to connect several disconnected storylines in the MCU, and establish a clear throughline for Tom Holland's next solo MCU story.
One forgotten MCU villain, introduced in 2019, can finally get paid off in Marvel Studios' upcoming Spider-Man 4 after the dramatic events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Secret Invasion on Disney+. 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home brought Tom Holland's first MCU trilogy as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, to an end, but set up the young wall-crawler to have a more anonymous and vigilante-style...

The Marvels producer Mary Livanos revealed how Valkyrie's cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film came to be.
While giving an interview to Entertainment Weekly, Livanos was asked why she wanted to pair Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel with Valkyrie on screen. "Pairing Carol with Valkyrie and having them share the big screen was another bucket list item," she replied. "Fans really shipped them and their friendship, and as a huge nerd myself, I was dying to see that relationship on the big screen. [The Marvels director] Nia DaCosta is quite close with [Valkyrie actor] Tessa Thompson, so we had to write in a cameo."

Livanos concluded by calling Valkyrie an empathetic character, adding, "When we were trying to figure out exactly how to help the Skrulls after the events that take place on Tarnax,...

The Marvels addresses the missing chapter in Carol Danvers' life, but it creates more gaps in her story. Carol's dark secret is filled with guilt, as she abandoned important people in her life in their time of need. Carol's backstory still feels thin with unresolved issues regarding her failure to address certain responsibilities.
The following contains spoilers for The Marvels, now playing in theaters.
Despite the naysayers, many fans adored Brie Larson's Captain Marvel. Not only was she a feminist statement for a very male-dominated Marvel Cinematic Universe at the time she debuted, but Carol Danvers truly became a powerhouse essential in saving the cosmos. In fact, given her powers and overall links to the Tesseract, Carol was more or less a living, breathing Infinity Stone.
In terms of the overall MCU narrative, however, Marvel Studios did leave some stones unturned when it backtracked and shaped Carol as a...

The Marvels includes a surprising cameo from Valkyrie that contradicts the ending of Secret Invasion and ignores a major twist from Phase 5 by allowing Skrulls refuge on Earth. The film also overlooks other elements of Secret Invasion, such as Nick Fury's wife Varra, and the fact that Skrulls had a colony in space, negating Gravik's motivations from the show. The disconnect between The Marvels and Secret Invasion is due to production issues and lack of collaboration between the two teams, highlighting a lack of interconnectivity in the current state of the MCU that was its biggest strength in the Infinity Saga.
One of the biggest MCU cameos found in The Marvels completely ignores a massive Phase 5 twist. Given its status as a culmination of Ms. Marvel, WandaVision, and Captain Marvel, The Marvels' MCU Easter eggs were prevalent. From the overwhelmingly exciting...

One of the hallmarks of Quantum Leap, both the original and new series, is the leaper impacting different lives across time. Rarely did Sam (Scott Bakula) or Ben (Raymond Lee) encounter the same characters across multiple leaps but that’s all about to change in a big way.
In this exclusive clip from season 2 episode 6 of the new Quantum Leap, “Secret History,” Ben runs into Hannah Carson (Eliza Taylor), a diner waitress he’d previously met in 1949, but it’s now 1955 on a completely different leap!
As Jenn (Nanrisa Lee) summarizes to Ben, the odds are “crazy slim” that he’d run into the same person on two different leaps. She’s right and the history of Quantum Leap backs her up. In the original series, which mostly consisted of stand-alone episodes, Sam hardly ever ran across the same people on different leaps. The biggest exceptions to these would be...

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars will feature prominent Marvel villains like Doctor Doom, Galactus, Venom, and the Scarlet Witch alongside the heroes. The project is expected to adapt elements from both the 1984 and 2015 Secret Wars events in the Marvel Comics, involving every available hero and villain from the Marvel Universe. Avengers: Secret Wars has the potential to rival the magnitude and impact of the Infinity Saga's Infinity War and Endgame, promising to be a huge spectacle for both heroes and villains in the MCU.

Secret Invasion may have worked better as a Captain Marvel sequel. Secret Invasion's story could have raised the stakes while giving Carol Danvers more grounding. Secret Invasion as a Captain Marvel sequel would have given the story it's deserved reverence and scope.
Upcoming Marvel Studios movie The Marvels is the sequel to the 2019 movie Captain Marvel, as well as tying into the events of WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. Despite the financial success of the first movie, however, it seems that the sequel will not be nearly as big at the box office. This begs the question of how the sequel should have been handled, and it ironically leads back to one of Marvel's most maligned projects.
Secret Invasion was largely seen as disappointing to fans and viewers, especially when compared to the source material. Nevertheless, its central story was perfect for featuring Captain Marvel, despite Carol Danvers not appearing in it.

As far as the potential chances of a Season 3 of Loki are concerned, one Marvel producer hints there could be more story to tell featuring the titular God of Mischief.
Speaking with Deadline, Loki executive producer Kevin Wright addressed the chances of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series getting a Season 3 renewal following the airing of the Season 2 finale on Nov. 9. While Wright conceded the thought process was always focused on a two-season run, he admitted there are "many more stories" left to tell on the show, engaging with talks with star Tom Hiddleston about the possibility of continuing the Phase 5 series. "We take it season by season, and there are certainly things that Tom and I and other casts have talked about of where we see this going, and I know there’s some excitement for that internally, but just from a storytelling standpoint, I think we always conceived of Seasons 1 and 2 as a whole,...

Avengers: Infinity War's cliffhanger ending, while shocking and emotional, was never meant to be a permanent conclusion due to the planned two-part project and the clear foreshadowing of a happy resolution in Avengers: Endgame. The decision to end the movie with a cliffhanger was a necessary risk taken by Marvel Studios to show their willingness to take bold choices with fan-favorite characters and stay true to their vision for The Infinity Saga. While early Multiverse Saga projects have been criticized for lacking innovation in the franchise formula, there is hope that future projects can set up The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars for Infinty War-level success.

Leave it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to use their 33rd film in the franchise as a sequel (of sorts) to several properties across multiple different mediums. Not only is "The Marvels" (which I reviewed for /Film here) tasked with continuing the narrative threads left dangling by the 2018 "Captain Marvel" film, but it also picks up where "Avengers: Endgame" and even Disney+ shows like "WandaVision" and "Ms. Marvel" left off. But there's one redheaded stepchild of the MCU that the film surprisingly addresses -- indirectly, at least.
You see, kids, there was once this series called "Secret Invasion" that, despite loads of hype based on the promise of its epic-sized source material, landed with a resounding thud and became one of the worst-reviewed Marvel productions ever. Even though the shape-shifting Skrulls plotline continues to play a big role in "The Marvels," nobody...

Marvel Studios' Disney+ shows have delivered many powerful moments, but some of these moments would have had a bigger impact in theatrical releases. The introductions of He Who Remains in Loki Season 1, Valentina in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Skaar in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law were risky on Disney+, and potentially caused confusion for casual viewers. Secret Invasion, Moon Knight, and other shows had moments that could have been more powerful on the big screen, reaching a larger audience and capturing the scale of the scenes.
Marvel Studios' TV shows on Disney+ have delivered some incredibly powerful moments for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but these scenes might have been more impactful had they been in MCU feature films instead. Marvel Studios branched out into long-form media after the inception of Disney+ and the dawn of the McU's Multiverse Saga, developing TV series' separate to the previous Marvel Television shows.

Let’s be honest, it’s tough times for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After mixed bag misfire Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania led into the utterly dismal waste of time that was Secret Invasion, the MCU no longer demands the attention it enjoyed before Avengers: Endgame. Not even the excellent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or the really good second season of Loki seems to restore confidence.
All of which puts a lot of pressure on The Marvels, the last MCU movie released this year. The Marvels may be a sequel to the box office-breaking Captain Marvel, as well as great MCU Disney+ shows WandaVision and Ms. Marvel, but it’s tracking for a remarkably low opening, and one can sense the desperation in the final trailer for The Marvels. The Marvels hopes to revive the struggling MCU with a pivotal storyline. The Marvels' final trailer set high stakes and brought key concepts to the forefront. The Marvels' initial teaser released in May, missed the mark by not emphasizing the danger and implications for the MCU.
It's safe to say that 2023 has not been the Marvel Cinematic Universe's year. Lackluster box office and offscreen controversies such as the abuse allegations against actor Jonathan Majors have slowed the media juggernaut considerably. A few bright spots stand out, such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, which was largely well-received and Loki Season 2 has similarly struck gold late in the year. But clearly all is not well for the reigning king of the pop-culture cage. Rumors have swirled about big changes, refocusing, and otherwise ensuring that 2024 doesn't look like 2023.
The Marvels hopes to take a big step forward on that front when it opens on Nov.

G'iah is rumored to lead Excalibur in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character was one of the most controversial parts of the Secret Invasion series. Having her lead Excalibur and potentially usurp Captain Britain might be a bad way to redeem her.
Marvel's Secret Invasion may have adapted a popular storyline from the comic books, but it ultimately proved to be incredibly controversial. Issues with the series ranged from how it handled the source material, its own poorly handled scope and tone and the nature of one character in particular. Now, rumors suggest that this character may return in a pivotal capacity.

James Rhodes, aka Rhodey, may have to face a situation similar to Tony Stark in Armor Wars, and it could lead to the end of Stark tech in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the "Armor Wars" comic series, Stark tech falls into the wrong hands, and Rhodey is likely to deal with a similar problem in his upcoming solo movie. The fact that Rhodey lost so many friends and missed out on so many major events makes it understandable that he would want to rein in Tony Stark's legacy and potentially retire, passing on the mantle to Ironheart.
James "Rhodey" Rhodes is one of the more intriguing characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now. In Secret Invasion, it was revealed that he was held captive by the Skrulls and replaced by the shape-shifting Raava. During his rescue by G'iah, his attire of a hospital gown seemed to suggest that...

The Marvels faces major challenges after the disappointing performance of a Phase 5 project in the MCU, but it will introduce new heroes and a family dynamic. The debut of Zawe Ashton's villain and the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury add excitement, but the association with Secret Invasion could be a hindrance. The Marvels can overcome the Secret Invasion problem by explaining its elements separately and focusing on its own storyline to break free from the shadow of the low-rated series.
After the disappointing performance of one Phase 5 project in the MCU, Marvel Studios' upcoming The Marvels has some major challenges to overcome. As the sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel, The Marvels will mark the return of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, but she won't be working solo in her new space-faring adventure. WandaVision's Teyonah Parris and Ms. Marvel's Iman Vellani will be joining her as new MCU heroes Monica Rambeau,...

The McU's early TV shows, Agents of Shield and Daredevil, hinted at three upcoming shows in 2015 that were later released in Phase 5. The use of the Skrull alphabet in Agents of Shield foreshadowed the storyline of Secret Invasion, one of the teased Phase 5 shows while Daredevil introduced the titular character and Kingpin who will play parts in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again and Echo. The long set-up of these shows showcases the interconnectedness of the MCU but can also lead to high expectations and potential disappointment for fans.
Three Phase 5 Marvel Cinematic Universe shows were foreshadowed back in 2015 almost 10 years before their respective air dates. While many assume the McU's first venture into TV came with WandaVision in 2021, the MCU has had other TV shows before the utilization of Disney+. The only confusion with these TV shows was that their canon status was - and still is, in some cases - unclear.

There's no denying that the MCU is in a bit of a lull at the moment. Except for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, they haven't exactly been knocking it out of the park of late. Secret Invasion was underwhelming, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania couldn't recapture what made Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp special and fun, and other releases haven't been able to live up to the lofty standards of previous Phases of the MCU. They've become a victim of their own success to a degree, having peaked with Avengers: Endgame and having nothing substantial to follow it up. This is the MCU world that Season 2 of Loki, which premieres on Disney+ October 5, 2023, enters. It's a vastly different landscape than the first season — everyone was still happy, the MCU was stronger than ever, and it was the only MCU serving at the time. Can Season 2 of Loki pull Marvel out of mediocrity?...
