- Sallema was a gifted violinist and always pushed by her mother Akila, fails a violin competition and dies thereafter, leaving behind her husband, her son and the rest of her complicated Abdelmaksoud family of bourgeois.
- The Abdelmaksoud are a family of the former Tunisian notability (Beldi). Hamza Abdelmaksoud, heir to this large family and minister plenipotentiary, maintained his social position in the years 1970-1980.
After his death, his wife Akila Abdelmaksoud (Samia Rhaiem) squanders his fortune in ostentatious and luxury; all she has left is her husband's retirement and a bourgeois home. Her son, Mondher Abdelmaksoud (Zouhair Erraies) works in banking, lives with his wife, doctor Hasna Zaier (Sonia Meddeb), their three children, and his sister Thouraya Abdelmaksoud (Salha Nasraoui).
Akila authoritatively leads the life of the household. Mondher, spoiled by his mother, lost his job several times. Thanks to his mother's relationships, he obtained a post of assistant general manager in the bank of his late father's colleagues. For her part, Hasna provides for the majority of the household's financial needs since Akila's income is no longer enough.
Sallema, daughter of Hamza and Akila, gifted violinist and pushed by her mother, fails a violin competition and dies thereafter, leaving alone her husband Mohsen (Mohamed Ali Ben Jemaa) and her son Yassine. Thouraya feels guilty because she was jealous and wanted her sister to fail. She then visits Mohsen and Yassine, making Narjes (Nadra Lamloum), Mohsen's fiancée, jealous. Thouraya, affected, consults a psychiatrist, Nadhir (Anouar Ayachi).
Majed Ouediachi (Lotfi Abdelli), an honest trader, takes care of his depressed mother because of her husband who abandoned her. He becomes the friend of Hayder Abdelmaksoud (Kabil Sayari) the son of Mondher and Hasna, who turns away from him and enters the illegal trade with a gang led by Mkass (Sadok Halwes), rival of Majed. At the same time, Majed lives a love story with Saoussen Abdelmaksoud (Fatma Zahra Maater), Hayder's sister.
Slim Mhadheb (Younes Ferhi), a great doctor, becomes head of department and therefore the superior of Hasna and his colleague Neïla (Naïma El Jeni). We learn that he and Hasna were very in love and that Hasna left him, because he was a modest fisherman's son, to marry Mondher, son of former notables.
Neïla, who has become jealous of Hasna because Slim encourages her to finish her doctoral thesis, makes everyone believe that Slim and Hasna are lovers, to the point of having Hasna and Mondher divorce. Neïla then marries him. Chokria (Dorsaf Mamlouk), a former friend of Hasna, arrives from Switzerland with her daughter, plans to marry Hamda Zaier (Ali Bennor), father of Hasna of which she was the pupil, and tries to show that Hasna did not deceive Mondher.
