A comedy without laughs...
paul_haakonsen4 May 2021
Well, I have to admit that I was expecting a tad more in the laughs department from the 2020 movie titled "Reboot Camp" when I sat down to watch it here in 2021. Sure, I hadn't even heard about the movie prior to watching it, but I stumbled upon it and found its synopsis to be alluring.

And while "Reboot Camp" is a watchable movie, it was hardly an outstanding movie experience, nor is it a movie that I will ever be returning to watch a second time. Why? Well, simply because "Reboot Camp" doesn't have the material in its contents to support more than a single viewing.

"Reboot Camp" is labeled as a comedy, but it is not the type of comedy that brought about much of any laughs, nor even a smile. It is, however, the type of comedy that takes something and pokes fun at it. And yeah, I will say that the storyline told in "Reboot Camp", as written by writer and director Ivo Raza, definitely was interesting and had some very nice aspects to it. But I just feel that the movie failed as a comedy. It was more of a farce in a way.

The acting performances in the movie were good, and they actually managed to get together a good group of actors and actresses to play the characters in the movie. And they also had a good handful of bigger names on the cast list, though just showing up for minor roles.

Ivo Raza managed to make a very unique and distinct movie here with "Reboot Camp". But it just ultimately wasn't a movie that left much of a lasting impression. I found the movie to be watchable for a single viewing. But it is hardly a movie that I would recommend you rush out to find at all costs.

My rating of "Reboot Camp" lands on a mediocre five out of ten stars.

Irony for cult
ks-605006 June 2021
It explains all human weakness via this movie. It's quite funny to watch indeed. Thought it's a documentary but it's not. But wonder how the people in the movie is actor or real, very suspicious.

best in cults

This is as if the losers from Best In Show had mental breakdowns and went to a week long retreat to lick their wounds. And once they got there they encountered half the Spinal Tap crew.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in a group
MsResponsible13 May 2021
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in a group" pretty much describes it all. I know a lot of people that would participate in the activities in this movie, even the most outrageous ones. My ex used to attend Tony Robbins seminars, amongst others, when he was feeling lost. I can't tell you how much he spent on self help books and seminars before he was able to pull himself together. And it wasn't because of the seminars/classes. He got his sh-t together because he ran out of money and had no choice. Some of the characters you see in this movie will remind you of people you know in real life. Entertaining!

Charming indie find
MischievousMisty15 June 2021
I stumbled across the trailer to this on my friend's Facebook page. The trailer was funny and the rental was only $4 so I decided to rent it. Reboot Camp was not what I expected. It's a mockumentary. I DO NOT like mockumentaries. Had I read the post after watching the trailer, I would've known and would not have rented it. That being said, it was not bad at all. I found myself laughing a lot. Ed Begley Jr. From Bless This Mess and Lindsey Shaw from Pretty Little Liars really stood out. Begley's deadpan face cracked me up every time he was on the screen and Shaw's portrayal of ditzy Maisey was spot on. I give this movie 7 1/2 stars because I just don't like mockumentaries but there are no half stars so I'm rounding up to 8. There are enough trolls out there giving movies 1 star for no reason at all.

A Cult Film, literally
billyrice-6960516 June 2021
All you need to start a cult is a foreign accent, a funky wardrobe and a VJJ slide. Oh and a bunch of gullible followers to peddle your BS to. Over the top at moments but I'm a big david Koechner fan so anything with him is a watch. Here he riffs at self help and finds spiritual growth through cursing. OK dude whatever works for ya. The one thing that bugged me were the reality stars. Obnoxious. But I guess that's par for the course..or curse.

Subversively funny
mamalamajama7 May 2021
All it takes for enlightenment is "Stand on a sofa" I mean come on. Animal yoga!! I was chuckling throughout this film. It's tackling some real issues namely the danger of listening to so called gurus and their supposedly enlightened 'ahem' wisdom. It's really funny if you get the subversion and tongue in cheek jab at society. Come experience the rebirt.

Hysterically funny and pure enjoyment
narlyn11 June 2021
David Lipper rocks in this film. (So does everyone in it!) He is so purely real and funny as the French guru to whom other delightfully funny characters flock to for life's deep meaning. Such a great commentary on the search for answers in this insane world! A breath of fresh air and a wildly eclectic cast of actors who all seem just like real people! If you want to spend your time laughing this film is for you! Great job from all. You can really feel everyone on this cast and crew truly enjoyed making this film! David Lipper can do just about anything as an actor. Love this movie!

Laugh out loud funny
arabella-0590110 June 2021
I was pleasantly surprised when i found this off beat comedy. So many of my friends have fallen for these stupid self help gurus, it's nice to see someone finally make fun of it and yet expose it at the same time. Highly recommend!

follow leader, leader, dear leader (at your own peril)
mammamia-5335325 June 2021
I discovered this through the Austin film fest and it was't what I expected but not a bad surprise. The faux documentary format works really well for the story, which is about a fake guru running a fake cult. Great appearances by Ed Begley Jr, and David Kochner. Some of the reality tv stars were predictably annoying. But the rest of the cast was fun. As far as mocku-docu-mentary type films, as it takes a jab at idiocity of our society. Those who don't get the jokes...sorry basic bros,

Christopher Guest would approve
LenaSays17 June 2021
Successfully mocks and addresses why people join self help groups with an ensemble cast of fictional and real people; actors, reality stars and even a porn star. Christopher Guest would approve.

Hilarious mockumentary
bartokeden18 May 2022
This movie made me laugh so hard! It's amazing and telling what people would do to try and make themselves feel better. Comedic but poignant. David Lipper kills it in this role. Love the cast, and the mockumentary format!

a cult film
baddingo9 June 2022
Everything is a joke until it isn't. These two brothers start a therapy group and then lose it to a femme fatale type while their too busy dealing with first world problems of the gullible members including a bunch of celebs.
