Storyline

Newlyweds Walt and Frieda Hollis arrive at their mountain cabin and find seriously injured felon Mickey Demarest unconscious on the floor. While Walt hikes to the nearest ranger station for help, Demarest revives and escapes after overpowering Frieda. Ranger Ben Seward radios the Highway Patrol and Dan Mathews dispatches the helicopter after he recognizes Demarest's description and realizes that he could provide information concerning recent pharmacy robberies. Walt is shot when he confronts the limping Demarest, but receives the necessary first aid at the ranger station. Despite his injuries, Demarest is surprisingly resilient and he leads Dan on a difficult chase in the treacherous terrain. A final confrontation ensues when the increasingly desperate Demarest falls from a short ledge and refuses to believe Dan when he tells Demarest that he is only wanted for robbery and not for murder. Quotes

[first lines]
Narrator: The Highway Patrol's activities frequently lead them far from the highways. Sometimes a search for a criminal takes the Patrol to the remote, isolated, inaccessible areas like Mount Vista. But to unsuspecting Walt and Frieda Hollis, Mount Vista was merely an ideal spot for camping and deer hunting.
