Scream 2 mocking sequels, Scream 3 mocking trilogies, Scream 4 mocking tiresome tropes and remakes, Scream 5 mocking Reboots/Requels and toxic fandoms. Anyone can be killed no character is off the table so to speak.

This film mocks the modern day trope of re-juvenating a franchise for a new generation by rebooting it. But also not alienating long time fans; making it a sequel. having original cast members have minor roles helps articulate this approach. Such as Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Star Trek, Star Wars, Terminator, etc.

After confirmation from not only the film's directors, but also Neve Campbell herself, Sydney Prescott's unseen husband, referred to as "Mark", isn't actually unseen at all! Mark is, in fact, Detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) from Scream 3.
