I'm out
pumping_iron-123 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First the positive. The cast is beautiful. All the characters are very attractive people. The first season held a lot of promise. The story was interesting and I could hardly wait for the next episode. Now the negative. The acting is horrible. Not one good actor in the cast. I thought I was watching Lifetime or LMN. The stories started going downhill for me with the Tonya and Donno story. What was that relationship all about. Were they just business associates? Were they falling in love? What was their end game? Did they get away with their crimes? Then there was the Buck and Sunny story. How weird was that! It also annoyed me that when Buck kidnapped Denise and Emily, the sheriff never showed any concern for finding Denise. He only worried about finding his daughter Emily. He was the sheriff and his duty was to show concern and protect everyone in the town. Well , I won't be watching anymore. The actors are too stiff and dry. The stories drag on too long and get boring. The characters get boring.

Hilarious
dk77725 June 2021
After a somewhat promising first episode, the show becomes hilarious.

The script is catastrophic, the dialogues are so unrealistic that the show resembles a parody.

After a somewhat watchable first episode, the show goes in a predictable direction and becomes tedious. The third episode is especially hilarious, so unrealistic that it really acts like a parody.

Three episodes are quite enough to conclude that it is not worth wasting time on this disaster.

Every police officer in the show is either lazy and stupid or evil, and Ronald's mother is a total caricature, but the other characters are equally hilarious. Their behavior is completely unrealistic, and the dialogues only confirm that those who wrote this show had no intention of entertaining the viewer at all.

The cast isn't bad, but that's it, everything else is a disaster.

Writing is pathetic, the entertainment industry has nothing to do with entertainment anymore. Another show that the writers managed to destroy.

There is definitely no need to waste time on this disaster.

Liked it at first

But it's like all ABC dramas ... they keep adding mire and more stories - but nothing gets resolved. More and more drama. Makes me lose interest ... it going the direc of Lost snd How to get away with murder. We stopped watching both of those - which were also good in the beginning. It's time to say so long to Big Sky ...

Disappointing
spikerchick01330 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show had me hooked off the pilot. But about halfway through the first season, they kill off their strongest, most interesting character, and then the entire show goes off the rails. The characterization of the main villain totally changes without warning or explanation, and then we completely stop focusing on the hunt for him & instead we focus on a random, unconnected story about a corrupt family farm, which then fizzles out and doesn't matter at all. It feels like they couldn't come up with enough from plotline A to fill a whole season, so they had to shoehorn in a less developed plotline B to fill time. Would have been a great show had they been restricted to a 10-12 episode season, but network TV doesn't usually work that way.

Big Pile of Garbage
POIguy22 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first 7 episodes, and I don't believe Big Sky is worth continuing. This show had an interesting premise, but there are too many things that went wrong with this show. For instance, how come one of the girls uses the flap to escape the container they were all being held in, but doesn't go back for the others when it would've been easy for her to do so? Also, Rick is a very inconsistent character. He gets mad at Ronald for acting sloppy and weird, meanwhile for basically the first 7 episodes he acts weird and suspicious around everyone. Also what was the point of the flashback's between Cassie and Cody? I feel like the whole Cody cheated on Jenny with Cassie backstory was completely unnecessary and was only there for meaningless drama. The production design is decent considering it's ABC, and it doesn't feel very cheesy. Unfortunately, the writing and plot make Big Sky a big pile of garbage.

It's more enjoyable as a pastime
AfricanBro30 July 2022
If you get into it expecting a great series then you'll probably get disappointed. It's one of those shows I started watching as a pastime and just kept on, plus I had only seen Katheryn Winnick in Vikings and loved her character so I wanted to see what she's like in something else. The idea of the show's decent, starts as a drama involving minor league sex traffickers and a pair of private investigators looking for them. It's not the most captivating but it's a decent show. There are some unconvincing scenes that just seemed disingenuous and effortless from the writers; and some of the actors performances are over the top at times. Some dialogue's also painfully predictable and the plot and/or characters often get riddled with silly decisions. There are of course several side plots added to the main one, I am impressed with how brave they are with adding or changing stories instead of just dragging one mystery all season. I was surprised how quickly the story developed, solved the mysteries halfway through the season so I was curious to what the remaining 8 episodes were going to be about since most shows often go for 10 episode only seasons; I was amazed that the story kept building, there aren't any filler episodes. I hate daytime cop shows because they don't take time to develop the plot, they find the villain, chase him down and have him arrested all in one episode; Big sky actually takes the time.

That's Big Sky's best feature in my opinion. I also liked that some episodes ending on cliff hangers or twists to get you enticed for the next. It's one of those shows you might enjoy better if you get invested and have no high expectations getting into it. Despite it not being that great, I still think it's an okay show, something to watch when you have nothing else to.

Ridiculous but strangely entertaining
Mr_Wobbly9 July 2021
In every episode there are at least two moments that make me roll my eyes at the ridiculous behaviour of characters BUT this show is still entertaining and we looked forward to every episode, because it did keep you hanging on to see the outcome. Give it a try!

Wow, what a drop off!
jimalba-8788723 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Big Sky got off to a very good start with a very interesting storyline, a shocking character death and a couple of good performances- mainly by John Carroll Lynch and Brooke Smith, both were terrific in their roles. Unfortunately, the two leads- Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick are just not great actors, but the first half of the season was good enough to cover their weak points.

The show should have probably been a 8-10 episode miniseries and not tried to continue because the second half of the season was a total disaster. They clearly tried to stretch out the storyline of "Ronald" and kept him around too long, and the Kleinsasser ranch story had too many characters, too many bizarre people to count and nobody to care about, basically you don't care if all of them died...you almost wish they would. The plot had holes so big that Ronald could drive his truck through them and some of the "stretches" were just embarrassing- the two private detectives running around acting as if the law doesn't apply to them at all, they have both been knocked unconscious several times but manage to "wake up" when someone just tells them to wake up- frankly, it was more fun poking fun at this show than it was watching it. You could see every development and "twist" coming up from a mile away. The law has a prisoner riding in a car? Oh no! Is that a truck that is about to broadside them and release the prisoner? Didn't see that coming....oh wait, yes I did, and so did everyone else. The victim from the first half of the season, the Trans girl, now can carry a gun and capture prisoners and basically overrules a Marshall when he tells her she can't go with him to try to capture a prisoner, then is given the job of backing him up? Hysterical!

I don't really remember a show falling off a cliff so suddenly the way this one did and I'm shocked it got renewed. If you flip the halves of the season around, it gets canceled by episode 3, I guarantee it.

The reason I watched
ruthburley25 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of Ryan Phillippe. He was one big reason I decided to put this one on my watch list. I feel like this was a bait & switch & I'm pissed off about it. We'll see how it goes, but shame on you for false advertising !!!

What a crap storm of a second season.
manesh3226 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first season was incredible. The second season has been utter trash. What idiotic writing. Absolutely crap and lazy writing. They could have ended it after one season with him being caught and it would have been fantastic.

Wait, it gets worse?
EODGhost8 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Season 1 went downhill quick. Cliche after cliche, it was pretty sorry. The story got more ridiculous as it went along. I quit watching half way through. Holy crap, there's another season, a couple episodes in, same crap, same dumb story, bad acting and just stupid, really.

Bad cop chases girl through the woods, catches her and another unarmed person appears. What does he do? Hide behind other girl and scream "who the hell are you?" A real bad cop would have simply shot the both of them, because why not? He was going to kill the one girl anyway, now he just has to dig a slightly deeper hole for the both of them.

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

Actors can't compensate poor scripting
dallandra-824876 January 2023
I primarily watch this show because I liked Lagertha (Vikings), Dean (SN), Luke/Lincoln (Blindspot/M. A.o. S.) and Marcus (The 100). However, Big Sky - especially Season 3 - is very lazily scripted, has many continuation errors - just check out the wonder-healing skin of Jenny ... she slams her forehead, blood everywhere, spends a night at the hospital and her skin is perfect the next morning when she walks into the police station on her cowboy boots ... showing neither patch nor scab. And where are the children of Jenny and Cassie? Could have been nice for them to connect with Beau's daughter Emily. A pity.

Good Start, But the Show Has Lost Some Steam. Crime Drama /Mystery
johnh2220 November 2020
UPDATE: After five episodes: I have lowered my rating for Big Sky. The story has lost some steam and the villains have revealed themselves to be more than a little cliche. I lost interest. GRADE: F

INITIAL REVIEW: Katheryn Winnick headlines a solid cast. Production value seems good. However, the story seems a little contrived at times for my taste - but this is a distraction I can overlook because there is plenty of suspense to keep the plot moving at a good clip.

Overall I found Big Sky an entertaining crime drama after one episode. Granted, this show is not as "realistic/ gritty" as some dramas like "The Killing" or "Dexter", but I definitely plan on watching the next episode to see where this goes.

Grade: B.

Be something like have a label then we know where you stand My goodness the best player is Donno atleast we know what capacity he has and acts accordingly My good God if you keepon going like this Please have no 4.th season I am sure it will be even worse.

Wriiten by a 9 year old
r-patton-857-24254218 February 2021
This show believes the audience has no indication of any intelligence, but for some reason it's still watchable. Good show to create a drinking game... everytime something idiotic happens you have a drink, alcohol poisoning by the end of the show.

Yeeaaahhh......no.
msmith404 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
  • The girl escapes but doesn't use any of the tools to pry open the panel to allow the others to escape.
  • She doesn't slip the crowbar to the girls so that they can use it against the kidnapper when he returns.
  • The trooper is angry at the kidnapper for drawing attention by being sloppy & careless. Same trooper then draws attention by acting all weird & suspicious when investigator arrives.
  • Trooper shoots/kills fisherman w/girl as witness. Trooper then shoots girl in the thigh w/two arrows. She's a witness to a murder. Why didn't he simply kill her as well?
  • Trooper shoots/kills Ryan Phillipe, arousing suspicion and drawing attention. But is reluctant to kill kidnapped girls because people are looking for them.
  • Kid sister sizes-up their situation and makes suggestions. Older sister: 'OMG! You are so stupid and annoying!' Older sister makes no suggestions. Older sister is a drag.

Who writes this stuff??

Good pilot, great start
Top_Dawg_Critic18 November 2020
As far as the overall production goes, the pilot was well directed, has a nice country setting, and great cinematography. Casting and performances are excellent, and it's good to see John Carroll Lynch and Ragnar Lothbrok's wife in Vikings, Katheryn Winnick. I'm hoping this series doesn't have too many melodramatics mixed in with soap-opera romances, and sticks to the story at hand. The ending was certainly a surprise and leaves an entirely new dynamic from the initially perceived plot-line. I'll adjust my review and rating if need be as the season progresses. So for the pilot, it's an 8/10 from me.

Completely lost interest...
ViewingBoch20 January 2022
It sucks, I really loved this show but after the kidnapping storyline was gone it just started to be watered down because after that they turned into a cliche investigation show. Look if wanted to watch something like that I would watch the shows they have on ID they have much more oh, I don't know. Gripping storylines because they're actually based on REAL cases?

Overall stay for the first season, skip the rest of it.

2 stars and I am being generous!
cdeanroane2 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
From the ending of the first episode of this show on ABC one can see the next move with a few minutes of the start of the next episode. While this is shown at 10 PM the plot is more like a 4 PM show for kids after school! 3rd episodes in and from the time the youngest girl escapes you know that the crooked state trooper will be bring her back. If there was something else better to watch at 10 with the only other network show at this time being CBS FBI Most Wanted another lack luster show show with week acting! One can only hope this show gets a lot better quickly or that ABC kills it off for something one can only hope that would be more interesting!

Big Sky, Little Interest
Narce9 December 2022
I REALLY liked the first season of this show - gripping villains, spunky victims, unexpected twists. But since then it has descended like a rollercoaster, Season 3 is (I hope) the low point.

Sorry, Reba, but I wish you had stuck to the music studio. I don't find you capable or likeable as an actor. Mind you, the plot doesn't help any. Take a bunch of "campers" out in the countryside, make a couple of them disappear, and yet people still insist on going off into the woods? No-one has the sense of a 5-year-old? Gimme a break!

Well, that's all I needed to say, but IMDB wants some more characters - STUPID!

Soapy start, then the twist....
mlv-lb20 November 2020
The first 3/4 of the show seemed to be silly soapy drama in the mountains... the teenage girls inviting trouble like fools...the girlfight ...silly.

But then, in what seemed like a casual exchange, the entire dynamic and direction of the show changed...now the way evil lurks in the seemingly benign corners of a given community, the additional layer of mystery we didn't expect and the terrifying danger of those victimized makes this a show to watch. I think it will only get better from here.

Worst show on TV

This is why no one watches CBS NBC or ABC anymore. Absolutely the stupidest show I have seen in years. Disney Junior has better written shows. The execs that okayed this should be embarrassed.

Talented actors wasted by abysmal writing .
Stevensson18 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After all the hype from the social media . I expected something near to the quality of HBO and Netflix . Given the good cast but oh boy was i wrong ! I can't belive this show was written by the same guy who created some decent shows back in the day ( BIG LITTLE LIES - GOLIATH - MR MERCEDES - BOSTON LEGAL ) and the list goes on .
  • The dialogues are cheesy asf
  • The plot itslef is a joke ( Two women fight for a man - the detective slept with his ex wife and also having an affair with his co-worker. Really ????? and don't let get me started with the truck chase it's one of the most unrealistic things i have ever scene in my life )
I gave 4/10 due to some good musics . Good scenary and the acting which is surprisingly good soo far especially John Caroll Lynch and Katheryn Winnick. And for Ryan you must be happy. At least the poor writers did something good for saving you from this trainwreck. Really fell sad for the actors who are involved in this poorly written melodrama . it's early to judge a show by its pilot but honestly i doubt this one will get another season .
