Felt REALLY short
notoriousvic-442066 July 2022
I guess that is a testament to the episode being exciting, but I was hoping for more. Still fun. Just ended abruptly & think they could have added more to the Partion, honestly Americans are still unaware of this horrific time that effected so many!!

Great show, way to short
Marvelfanboy1992096 July 2022
I think the show is great but I can't give it a better rating as it's to short. Netflix is making a joke out of these shows. You are a multi billion dollar company Disney, come on! :(

The mystery behind a trail of stars finally gets revealed !
Perspicuity119 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Although this episode had the shortest runtime of all the episodes of Ms Marvel, it will most definitely be remembered as one of the best episodes of the show.

WHAT'S GOOD :

1. The partition scenes were depicted very well. It's difficult to believe that they filmed this episode with such a massive crowd during COVID. The scenes of desperate people running towards the trains, children crying, trains overflowing with people, it was all heartbreaking to watch but kudos to the production team for pulling it off.

2. The episode started in the most unexpected of ways, with Aisha, played by the strikingly beautiful Mehwish Hayat, catching a glimpse of Hasan, played by Fawad Khan. I did not expect the writers to explore this part of Aisha's life, but I am so glad they did because it was extremely beautiful to watch. The performances of Mehwish and Fawad were truly incredible, and I as a viewer felt truly invested in their relationship. I just wish they had given more time to this wonderful world.

3. English films and shows always make Indian or Pakistani characters speak in a very unusual way, with an accent, but thankfully Ms. Marvel has corrected this mistake. Fawad Khan and Mehwish Hayat spoke English very eloquently, with no accent, just like a normal Indian or Pakistani.

4. Some scenes were in Urdu/Hindi in this episode, which was great in my honest opinion, because it makes no sense to show villagers talking in English. The entire flashback sequence could have been done in Urdu/Hindi, I would have loved to see that happen, but it's still fine.

5. I am really happy that Marvel approved a short History lesson about India's partition at the beginning of the episode, because not everyone is aware of why India and Pakistan are two separate countries despite so many similarities.

6. It was nice to see a time loop, with Kamala, played by the adorable Iman Vellani, being the angel who answers to the prayers of Aisha. Although it did not come as a shock, but it was still quite something to finally understand as to why Kamala kept seeing that train in her visions. I really wanted Kamala to save Aisha and bring her and Hasan back to the future, but I guess that's not how life goes. Life is supposed to be bitter-sweet, you can't have it all.

7. This episode was paced very well, there was not a single scene which allowed me to get bored and look away in my phone.

WHAT'S NOT SO GOOD :

1. I really wish this episode was longer. The flashback story of Hasan and Aisha was a visual delight, it was so good that it could have been turned into a mini-series! Once again, I find the decision of Marvel to allow just six episodes as baffling. The creators are always found to be rushing through with the episode!

2. The special effects in this episode were not up to the standards of Marvel. The veil through which Najma tried to pass through and burned to death, could have been done better. The way some skeletons fell through, felt quite comical.

3. It remains a mystery as to how Najma managed to close the veil to the Noor dimension, why did she and other Clandestines die while passing through it and how did she pass on her powers to her son Kamran.

Time and Again
lassegalsgaard12 July 2022
We're now moving closer to the end of yet another Marvel show, and this has been one of the more enjoyable ones. Not that the other have lacked entertainment value, but this has had a wide variety of things to offer, most importantly, in terms of its expanding storytelling, which gets bigger for each episode. We're not only two episodes short of a full show, so it's time to really give some gas and show us what we're going to spend two more hours with. This episode was definitely a more drawn-out episode that did leave me with more longing questions than actual answers.

A lot of people have been annoyed by the change of her powers' origin. This could not be more irrelevant for the show, so I'd like those people to just go away. This episode, if anything, did a great job of showing the inheritance of her powers. The backstory provided a nice storytelling device to show, and it gives a great connection to Kamala's past that was not explored to this depth in the original comics. And I think that would have been even greater had the episode had some time to merit on its choices and not rush a lot of its storytelling along. I don't think that having a flashback episode as your penultimate episode is a good thing, because it mostly puts the storytelling to a halt, and while this added a lot to Kamala's development as a superhero, it made for some awkward moments with her mother, who apparently accepts her powers almost immediately, yet spent the last four episodes constantly being over her like a hawk. That came way too quick for me to accepting of it. However, what it did right was lead us into the finale with some kind of idea of what's going to happen. It doesn't seem like Kamala is completely done with her fight against the Department of Damage Control, and with Kamran also getting some interesting development in this, it seems like the show still has a lot to offer. I'm excited to see where it goes, despite this episode feeling a little rushed.

"Time and Again" offered a nice backstory to Kamala's powers, but also pressed the show to a halt that made some transitions a little awkward. The performance from Iman Vellani continues to impress and the episode sets up a season finale that will put her in the middle of some very tough decisions yet made.

"So you are a car guy as well" XXD.. I love it!
ashishhsunny6 July 2022
Normally I hate it when studios meddle with actual history for plot, but this was well done.. The creators actually researched about the scenario during the Indo-Pak division and did it in a heart-wrenching way. Most actors in the show did a decent job but I gotta give a shoutout to Ms. Zenobia Shroff who played as Kamala's Mom did a phenomenal job of portraying a typical Indian Mother(not stereotypical). Also as an Indian, I felt it was so heart warming to see that they pictured the actual fact that the people of the two countries are brothers and they actually do love each other(and instigators(inside ones and outside ones) were the ones who brought all the hatred for their selfish reasons). Overall a decent watch, the storyline is okay but the Desi representation is perr-fecct!(I can personally vouch for that)

7/10(+2 for doing so many things right that normal movies don't do for Desi representation).. Oh and some real funny lines too lol.

Definitely the worst episode in the series
It's really nice seeing Kamala's great grand mother's stories, and see the actual origin of Kamala's powers, however the story is going everywhere, and the transitions feel very weird and abrupt. There's also Kamala's time-travelling issue. It is a possibility that time travelling is different due to access to different dimensions, however, this is not explained clearly and may seem to contradict the time travelling in End Game and is quite confusing.

This is the worst episode in the series, but its rating is still somehow better than overall rating of the show, which is just clear evidence of the presence of 1-star bombing from those that didn't even watch the show.

Did I miss something?
miguelcesar6 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So did I miss something or this episode was just very bad?

The story of the episode is not bad but the execution and editing are just terrible.

And nothing explains more what I'm saying than the last scene between Bruno and Kamran what the hell was that?

The scene ended abruptly, really strange.

The scene where Kamran gets his power is so bad, like wtf The story is good, but the way they did omg Najma is probably one of the dumbest characters in the MCU.

She kills the only person that knows where the bracelet is and then 70 years she kills herself to protect the world she is trying to get out since 1940 (even thought she couldnt possibly know that her died would stop the portal) and then in a strange editing choose we just see Kamran getting his powers.

Also, the scene where Sana finds her father... So Kamala was helping her grandmom, then she fells on the ground and out of blue Sana creats this stars that guide her to her father.

But like he is 3ft way from her, and how did the stars guide her to Hasan, if the stars just appear for like 10s?

I possibly miss something.

But one thing is for sure This episode felt rush and like they didnt knew how to resolve a lot of things They need to have the clandestines gone, so they just went a way, they need Kamran to get powers so he just got them (without build up, something that is really strange) The worst episode yet, really hope episode 6 gets to be as good has the first 2 episodes.

If i miss something please tell me.

Thank you for read it.

Tired of all the racial and geological critics
seansjps6 July 2022
Please if you don't like the historical and ethnic issue you can just NOT watch maybe, theres no point leaving mean and false comments.

Please just leave it alone. It is starting to get really annoying.

Save your hateful comments on some your own country's forum perhaps. Just please stop all these.

Better than the last, however this episode leaves a lot to be desired.
harry-327486 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I would be lying if I said that this show did not initially surprise me with its unique style and fun tone. I fell in love with the first two episodes of this show and was gearing up for it to probably be one of, if not my favorite MCU show to date. However, unfortunately, I am back-peddling on that a little bit. The last 2 episodes did not impress me nearly as much as the first, they seemed to lack what made this show great, to begin with. Now episode 3 did have some great parts as well, it still felt too different from the first to garner the same feelings as this show's beginnings. Now the 4th episode was the lowest for me, strange edits and weird removal of tone from the rest of the show left me disappointed.

Regardless of that, I need to talk about episode 5, as the penultimate episode of the show it does offer more of a backstory to Kamala's great grandmother Aisha, which is much appreciated, and I like how much time they spent in the past with her and her family. This kind of interesting mixup was exactly what hooked me with the show, to begin with, so I appreciated this quite a bit. My biggest issue with this episode is that felt like it didn't really set anything up for a satisfying ending.

The biggest gripe I have with this show is how they are deciding to handle Kamala's power set. It's not that I don't like the interesting change to her powers, it's that the core of what made her comic character so great is missing because of it. This surprises me quite a bit as the first two episodes made it seem like this was the exact issue that this show would be covering, however that has suddenly shifted to whatever the hell is happing with the "clandestines" and their story. It's frustrating that what made her seem so relatable in the beginning is being thrown out the window, which brings me to my final point.

Unless this final episode is an hour and a half long, I cant see this show having anywhere near enough time to end things in a way that will make me truly care about Kamala and her family/friends. It seems strange just how short this episode was considering how much more of this story I thought was left and that's a bit of a letdown for me. I still enjoyed this episode and greatly aprricate what these filmmakers are trying to do with this story, however, some of the decisions seem quite strange.

All in all, I am still waiting to see how this series will turn out as we still have one episode to go. After all, I hope that I am completely wrong and it blows my expectations out of the water, but time will tell if that turns out to be true.

Way too below avarage episode
YouTubeblack6 July 2022
The show clearly doesn't know where it's going. The antagonists look so dumb and caricaturish i just can't stand them. Kamala and Bruno are likeable but that's it, they don't have much to do.

Why are the characters speaking in English with eachother when they are in pre indipendent India? This feels so unnatural lol.

This Episode was about the Feels
lutfulmanan-khan6 July 2022
Everyone from India/Pak could feel the anxiety of those times in 30 min...it may be boring for white viewers and others who dont know the background. Yes it was a bit rushed, but otherwise it would need a movie to build and explain everything....

Who would have thought...
kotza19926 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An MCU show would be poorly paced and weirdly edited yet again. Why are the lightest and more insignificant characters travelling time and being visited by multidimensional beings? Why are the stakes so high all the time? Phase 4 is a mess.

Time and Again
Prismark109 July 2022
An episode that has a modern take on colonialism. Ironically the present Conservative British government are not keen on an alternative view that the British did some bad things in its empire days.

Well Indian partition was not one of Britain's shining moments but you must be one of these woke types if you delve on it too much.

This episode concentrates on Kamala's grandmother Aisha in 1942. How she met her husband Hasan and had a baby.

Then there is the breakup of India and Kamala's role in reuniting her lost grandmother with her father.

It did feel inconsequential and rushed. The Clandestines seem to be weak antagonists which does not help.

Also I expected more of mileage when Kamala's mother found out about her daughter's powers.

The actor playing Hassan was magnetic - I need more things with him. The train scene was harrowing - any parent watching, anyone watching any refugees escaping, will feel their heart wrenching. The transition to the final scene was a bit sudden but the whole episode had me in my feels.

An average episode
hanimhomsi28 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was fun at times and boring at other times but I give it a rating of 7 except it dropped one because there is a huge miss directing no one can miss, The scene where Najma told Aisha that you will return the bangle by sundown tomorrow and Sana in that night was an infant. The next scene which is supposed to be the next day, they were packing up to leave the country and we see Sana is a toddler now. She literally aged 1-3 years by one night only. This scene made me sooo frustrated.

6 only for the flashback and Fawad-Hayat chemistry
sahil-masrur7866 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Why Hasan and Aisha are talking in English when both characters know Hindi? Why won't they speak in their mother tongue?

Except this I liked Fawad and Hayat's performance. Kamala saving her grandmother was predictable and could have been done in a more beautiful way than its done. At one shot there is a crowd in front of Sana and next shot its empty when she is seeing the stars.

Also they killed the main villain in a very anti-climatic way. What was the motive? Why would she suddenly sacrifice herself? What was driving her to do what she was doing? Only the writers know. I hope this was the last of Red Dagger because the guy cant act.

Great episode!
fanatyk_pizzy6 July 2022
In my opinion second best episode of this show (ep 1 was slighty better). After episodes 3 and 4 which were a bit dissapointing this episode is exactly what I wanted, lots of family scenes (in past and present) and less action. I can't wait for the final!

The Show Continues to Be Under-Underwhelmingly Mid
MamadNobari976 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So as I said before, this history lessons and Pakistan's cities' vlog might be really cool to people of Pakistan, but it doesn't make for a good show and story, especially when the titular character has gotten less and less characterization each episode. The 20-minute flashback to the life of Aisha, Kamala's great grandmother, could work in a show where its season has 10 or more episodes and they are 1 hour each, but 20 minutes of a 30-minute episode in a 6-episode mini-series? You kidding me?

Like I know they've been teasing Aisha's story from the beginning and I wanted to see what happened too, but they present it in the most underwhelming way, and the reveal that the "trail of stars" was actually Kamala (duh) is shown in the most underwhelming way too and feels like a waste of time and they could've done that in a shorter time and progress the actual present time plot.

Like you don't want to see what the parents of Captain America did before he was born, or what the grandparents of Peter Parker did before him right? And I know Kamala's great-grandmother is essential to her story and origin, but it's so underwhelming that makes it a waste of time. Like I would have fewer problems if they actually gave Aisha more characterization. Tell me, do you know now who Aisha was after this episode? They didn't show how she got there, why she got there (they said it in the last episode but "show don't tell"), and all the characterization they gave her was "she found a decent man in the field of roses and she got pregnant" and that's it.

The villain, that has been evil for decades it seems, suddenly in the most clichéd and tropy way has a change of heart and becomes good?! What was that about? At least in Doctor Strange 2, they gave an explanation as to why Wanda stopped what she was doing to destroy the bad book, but here? Nothing, nothing at all. She wasn't even time traveling with Kamala in the flashback, she was just knocked out and lying on the ground, so why the hell did she suddenly become good? Did she transfer her consciousness to Kamran? Who's gonna be the big baddie of the finale exactly, Kamran?

Also, I don't know if you've noticed, but these past 3 episodes are nothing like the 2 first episodes. There was so much creativity and a fun style of editing. Where did all the creativity go?

Everything in this season is just so underwhelming and a far cry from the creative style of episode 1.

The villains have got to be the most uninspired and forgettable antagonists I have ever seen. And they present this time travel "rescue" Kamala did in such a bland and anti-climactic way, that it didn't feel like characterization at all and felt like the whole episode was about Aisha, which we still don't know anything about and her story was mediocre at best.

They also remembered that Bruno exists too, and I guess the finale's big bad is gonna be Damage Control? The Damage Control that had two scenes in the whole show and their presence is never felt? This is what happens when you have only 6 episodes and wanna do everything at once.

They could have given us the original Ms. Marvel with her original powers that looked like a cheap copy of Mr. Fantastic, but at least her origin of being an Inhuman would have been 100 times more interesting and actual good origin story than a Partition story. They could have introduced Inhumans into the MCU with this show, But I guess Marvel Studios think it's their obligation now to give us history lessons than give us a good story and good characterization.

Go watch AOS instead to get actual good "history lessons" about the things we actaully care about like the history of S. H. I. E. L. D., HYDRA, and Inhumans, and how these three are related to each other, and to get better and actual characterizations about actual characters that feel real.

Disney Plus is the worst thing that has happened to the MCU, and next they're gonna ruin even more characters like Daredevil with their uninspired lack of creativity in show making and the 6-episode-per-season formula.

Literally the turning point of the show!
darklord-062746 July 2022
The first four episodes were boring. Specially the villain part. This episode literally turned me into the fan of this character. India-Pakistan partition has been represented very realisrically. It was also emotionally intense & loved it.

What is going on with these special effects???
hotrobinproductions23 August 2022
What started off as a ok show just turns into such a over the top show, with consequences that go so minor to none. There's barely ever even anything to really latch onto anymore compared to the first handful of episodes

The effects throughout the series has been very rough but I'm willing to just watch the show and judge it for what it delivers as long as it's not distracting... but the effects here are VERY distracting. Such terrible effects they have during the climax of this episode it's just terrible I think justice league (joss wheedon cut) had better effects than here... I couldn't even take the scene serious especially when the people that die turn into terrible stone cgi skeletons it was like watching a parody of the MCU.

The ending wraps up nicely I guess. But I just couldn't care at all for the tension this episode tried to build. Just crowds of people moving and screaming with such an unearned climax. The ending wrapping things up are nice and wholesome and make up for it.

Great history but a 30 minute episode, this show is a waste of time.....
pyrothing6 July 2022
Great historical implications in this episode, but unfortunately with one episode to go this show feels like it is going nowhere.

30 minute episode but 90% of it is away from the main character, which means little to no plot advancement for people that actually wanted a superhero show and not a history documentary with family drama thrown into the mix.

C. Lauper would be pleased
Trey_Trebuchet29 July 2022
I do not know what I mean by that.

This was the best episode of the show in my opinion. It was really well acted, the entirety of the 1940s plot was handled with a lot of care and emotion, the pacing was fine... I don't see what all of the hate is about.

The editing is not great in some spots, and some of the quieter moments still feel slow, but that's really it as far as criticism goes for me. I liked this episode a lot.
