It's been some time since I've seen a mystery film that kept me so absorbed as did this first episode. As far as the acting, I was really impressed with the entire cast. Owen McDonnell portrays the son of the former Garda chief well. He has returned home from the big city, but does not have his tail between his legs, nor does he move in with his parents. He is independent and self-reliant, and has ethical standards that go beyond mere law enforcement. He knows what is right and wrong and lives his life accordingly. The success of this mystery also hinges on excellent writing, and there are enough twists in the plot to keep you on the edge of your seat. The somber mood throughout and the sense of isolation (and loneliness) of the town come through with the great photography.
