This is not a 105 minute feature film, but a DVD extra
planktonrules16 June 2009
Oddly, this 17 minute DVD extra is listed on IMDb as being 105 minutes long--making it a feature-length film, which it is not. Instead, it's a "making of" documentary that is included on the DVD with the exceptional film, THE ORPHANAGE.

For the most part, it's a nice little addition--giving insights into the original film (the film makers seeing it as PETER PAN from the standpoint of the parents missing their kids) and the special effects used to make the film. Excellent and well worth seeing provided you first see the feature. The only negative, and it's a problem with all films of this type, is that too often the film and its comments are too self-congratulatory--which makes sense as this is basically an extended advertisement.

Nice making of documentary

Warning: Spoilers
This 17-minute documentary covers a good deal of interesting and informative ground on the making of the Spanish horror film "The Orphanage." Writer Sergio G. Sanchez reveals that an earlier draft of the script had more pure horror and was subsequently rewritten to make it more character driven. Producer Guillermo del Toro points out that the movie has moments of pure cinema in it as well as tells a story that's both scary and moving in equal measure. Moreover, we also learn that lead actress Belen Rueda was in a way like a child, everyone was thrilled to work with Geraldine Chaplin, there are about two hundred CGI effects shots in the picture, and director J.A. Bayona brought a lot of focus and enthusiasm to the project. Worth a watch for fans of the film.
