A short story with a happy ending? Not quite. This particular SVU story involves two different sex crimes and a case of identity theft.
It's all held together by a great performance by Ellen Waglom who tells a sad story even if at first it's not all true.
Kudos go to Peter Gray Lewis as her captor and quite a bit more than that. He's some piece of work
Complicated but good episode.

- TriviaThis case could be loosely based on Frédéric "The Chameleon" Bourdin, who was a French serial impostor who in 1997 impersonated a missing Texas boy named Nicholas Barclay, who had gone missing 3 years prior. Bourdin claimed that he had been taken by a sex trafficker and suffered trauma and abuse over the 3 years he had been missing, and that was why he couldn't quite remember everything. He lived with the family for over 6 months before a P.I. became suspicious and ran his DNA to confirm his suspicions. After Bourdin was discovered, he claimed that the reason the Barclay family went along with the ruse was because someone in the family had murdered the little boy. Nicholas has never been found and his disappearance remains a mystery.
- GoofsWhen the doctor says that type A blood is the only possible type for Heather because both her parents have A blood, he is not completely correct. If both parents also have the "O" allele, there is a 25% chance that she could have type O blood.
- Quotes
Detective Elliot Stabler: How did she manipulate you into getting her that tattoo?
Carl Vasko: It was my idea. She showed me a picture. I wanted her to have it for good luck.
Detective Olivia Benson: Well, it worked. She needed it to pass herself off as another person. She ran away to another family. Complete strangers are better than you, you disgusting piece of filth.
Carl Vasko: Where's Kristen? I'd like to see her.
Detective Olivia Benson: And I would like to see you castrated with a rusty steak knife. Neither are gonna happen, but we can both dream.
