Violence & Gore

  • As per the film genre, the main characters engage frequently in hand to hand combat. Po and his friends fight primarily empty handed, while the villains often use weapons.
  • Some characters are presumably 'killed' in the movie, most explicitly concerning a villain's henchman is stabbed when he refused to fire on his own troop.
  • To thwart a prophecy, Shen leads a genocide of pandas.

  • It's relatively dark and violent.

  • Quite a bit darker than the first Kung Fu Panda, with themes of: genocide, anarchy, and revenge.

Sex & Nudity

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Wolves come and attack the villagers and grab metal.
  • Throughout the film, Po goes on a personal journey to discover where he came from, after seeing a flashback red symbol. Po finally finds inner peace when he "remembers" that the village he was born in was attacked by Shen's forces. Before they could kill Po, his mother runs off with him into a forest, puts Po in a raddish crate and lures Shen's forces away, therefore sacrificing herself. This secondary plot may be intense and emotional to younger children, especially adopted children from China.
