Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The sheer terror of being so exposed on the open ocean coupled with the horror of knowing that a man eating shark is nearby is very realistically conveyed in this film with almost unbearable levels of tension.
  • A turtle shell floats toward the group and it is turned around, revealing a decapitated turtle.
  • Everyone in the group has to decide if they want to risk swimming to an island and getting attacked by a shark or staying on a sinking boat and risk dehydrating.
  • When the shark first appears, there is a prolonged scene of it circling and terrorizing the group.
  • A scene shows Luke searching a capsized yacht. Loud banging is heard and it is very suspenseful and scary.
  • Luke swims to the opening of the yacht and a tuna swims past the screen quickly, meant to be a jump scene.
  • Luke looks underwater and a shark suddenly appears out of nowhere and attacks the group. This is a very scary moment.
  • The whole film is very intense and frightening.

Violence & Gore

  • The great white shark brushes past Kate and loses her body-board she was using as a flotation device. When Matt goes to retrieve it, he is attacked by the shark and his legs are severed. He is comforted by the group but quickly dies.
  • The group share a laugh when they mistake a dolphin for the shark that took Matt. However, the shark soon returns and kills Suzie.
  • Luke and Kate begin to swim the final distance to the rocks as the shark closes in. Luke assists Kate in climbing to safety, but as he climbs onto the rocks the shark seizes Luke and drags him beneath the water.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One of the characters tries swimming to retrieve part of a body-board and is attacked by the shark rushing at him. His body is seen going into the shark's mouth and there is a lot of blood after he is bit. He sacrifices himself to distract the shark from the others and his body is seen being dragged underwater by the shark.
  • A shark attacks one of the characters and she is seen floating in the water in pain. Another character swims for her but she is dragged underwater by the shark. A school of fish is seen having a feeding frenzy with her body and there is blood everywhere.
