Warning: Spoilers
I have to say, that I'm quite perterbed with how anti-climactic Derek's death was, but I have a theory why they did it the way they did.

When you think about it, Derek is a hardened "warrior" in the future war. He's one of the best soldiers there is, and there's a good reason he's survived as long as he has. The writers do things like this, to remind us that humans are frail beings in the war between man and machine, and no amount of training makes them invulnerable and prepared for every contingency.

When you analyze the scene, the machine came around the corner with gun raised, whereas Derek came around the corner with gun in the ready position, aimed down. The machine had split-second reaction time, whereas humans...well...we make mistakes... All that being said, the outcome was "realistic" if not appealing...

Who's Chronicles?
scott_dalby15 April 2009
I love this Terminator adaptation. I hope they continue to make the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Although the way i personally feel about the series is that i think they should reconsider the name of the show from the Sarah Connor chronicles to the John Connor chronicles, Sarah seems to be fading into the background, and John is starting to embrace his destiny and become the future leader we have all heard of. not that this annoys me i actually prefer the John stories to Sarah's, i find them more interesting. None the less this show is awesome and hope that they do a 3rd season. So much more potential. and remember 'The Future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.'

a bit to fast for greatness

Warning: Spoilers
I did like this episode, I really did, However! I need too agree with a lot of other Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles lovers. Derek deserved a better death, sure that sometimes blow up characters death scenes too much and destroys the episode all together. But still! He deserved a bit more fighting before he died. I do wonder what the writers been talking about when it came to killing off one of the main characters. One less character in the show, 7 to go. Will it end with John Connor standing there all alone in the end? Lets face it, I believe they've killed of 3 or 4 characters this season depending how and who you count. Anyway... Rest in peace Derek...

Very well done episode.

Warning: Spoilers
I have to say that this episode was fantastic. I was amazed at how on edge I was during this episode. These last few episodes have been so crazy with characters dropping off like flies that it definitely felt like no one was safe by this point in the season. So needless to say great job with the suspense, a very worthy episode to bear title Terminator.

As mentioned by other posters the death of Derek Reese does occur and is done in almost a split second with no real tears shed. Fans of his character such as myself will feel a little like he got cheated or that his death was not done in a way that really let us feel any sort of loss for such a great character. I very much felt Derek's death was not handled with the sort of respect to the character that I would have liked to have seen. All that being said, once you watch the finale, which is the next episode, all feelings of anger or disappointment are forgotten. And all I am filled with is anticipation, excitement, and utter joy.

I love this show. I really hope we get to find out where they are taking this series, because I for one can't wait to find out! That finale was off the hook. Hell these last few episodes have been a crazy amazing roller coaster ride!

Savannah Weaver is 'kidnapped'
Tweekums27 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After the events of the previous episode John, Sarah, Derek and Cameron are reunited in the cemetery where John's father is buried. Here we learn that a phone was found on the body of the man who attacked the lighthouse and on that phone there is a picture of Savannah Weaver. John knows who she is as he met her at the offices of the psychiatrist he saw a while back. The action soon moves to the Weaver household where Savannah is doing her homework while talking to John Henry on the phone. While doing that a terminator turns up; clearly intending to harm Savannah. John Henry guides her to the garage but it looks as if she will be caught until the Connors and Cameron turn up; they rescue her but not without a heavy cost; Derek is shot and killed! The police assume she has been kidnapped and after seeing the surveillance recordings James Ellison knows where to look for her; he doesn't tell anybody else though and asks John Henry to keep the secret too. While talking to Savannah John learns about John Henry and they must work out a way to meet Catherine Weaver and destroy her work.

With just one episode of the second season to go the action is cranked up significantly; the opening shootout is both dramatic and quite shocking; I certainly didn't expect to see Derek die especially not in the opening scenes and without any time to deliver any last words... that said I think it was a brilliant move; the way he was shot and died instantly had more impact than it would have been if he had had a more drawn out death. While the Connors obviously featured in a major way this episode centred far more on Savannah, John Henry and James Ellison. This change of emphasis made the episode even more interesting than it could have been as all three actors do a fine job; Mackenzie Brooke Smith is particularly notable as young Savannah as she makes her character believable rather than being the cliché precocious child that frequently features on television. The episode also provided some nice insights into Catherine Weaver's character as she tells Ellison that she believes she must protect John Henry as one day he may be needed to save Savannah… a sign that she is good or a lie to keep Ellison on side… at this point it is impossible to say. With just one episode to go I can't wait to see how the season ends; if it is as good as this I'll be happy.

Trouserless...

Warning: Spoilers
Poor old Derek fails rise, has a look on his face like he's caught a surprise, I think he's taken up Hindi, wears a mark called a bindi, perhaps he's tired but he's keeping open eyes.

A bad ending for a great character.
caotico694 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was ones of the few that when I first hear the idea of making this show think this will be a bad idea, I though that the terminator franchise was killed on T3 (awful movie). but I was mistaken, this show is very intense and deep at the same time. I am not afraid to tell I love this show, but... (there's always a but) I hate how they kill Derek Resse on this episode, was a stupid dead almost like bad luck, on the last episode we saw Charlie dying in a very good way (defending John Connor, instead Derek Resse die in a very stupid way, I guess was his time for Brian Austin Green to leave the show but please! I hope more from the writers. maybe giving his life for someone or for something, but writer drop the ball on this one. Sorry for Derek Resse, was a great character.
