Disappointing
jakeface9 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Two elements of this really irritated me:

1) they are talking like they are one foot from the coffin, I mean FFS being in your fifties is not old.

2) why would you not call an ambulance?

What's entertainment!
carolleejones11 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, killing off Big was a BIG disappointment. Huge!

But the biggest problem is that the writing shows 3 older women bumbling through 2021 as if they were just dropped off in NYC from Mayberry! The REAL SATC girls would still be hip and with-it. Even...no...mostly Miranda! You can't tell me that in the last 10 years she's that far out of touch with how things are in her city? Good grief.

I feel torn..
elin9310 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I feel torn.. As a SATC fan I was super excited about this show, and I still am excited, but it feels kinda underwhelming at the same time. They stuffed the episode full of way too much "woke" things.. it felt very forced. Also I'm not happy about that they killed off Mr. Big.. sure it makes a good storyline but still... it's sad af. However, I'll continue watching.. maybe it gets better?

Could have been a good pilot
wasp89 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Oh my god Carrie! Hasn't she heard of something called first aid? 911? I'm sorry but that last scene where Carrie just hugs him instead of reaching for the phone and calling an ambulance is pure stupidity and drags down the show to another level. It could have actually been a good pilot if it didn't end like this. Him having a heart attack during the intense recital was also pretty predictable. I just want to ask why.

Hm.
Reebiebaby6412 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like the other reviewers, why are they all acting like they are on the way to the old peoples home? And why didn't. Carrie call 911? I miss Samantha. I can tell they are trying to insert Lisa into Samantha's place.

Call 911!
amundsenmckayla9 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It was very hard to watch Carry trying to pick Big up off the floor instead of calling 911. That was beyond irritating.

On a positive note, I was extremely worried about how they would address Samantha being gone and so far they've done a great job. (Other than Samantha leaving NYC, which I don't believe she would do.)

Not a nice come back.
SaberaSurovy13 February 2022
But it did make me nostalgic. They did dirty to Samantha, my most favorite character in the show, all because Kim Cattrall refused to come back. I would rather they wrote her dead or something. That would have preserved her image.

Unlikeable Performances
jennyboyd-5575315 December 2021
Wow. Within 5 minutes, SJP is insulting Samantha...Who would ever believe that Samantha needed Carrie as a client?? Carrie is as unevolved and annoying as always. For some reason, even Miranda has been written like a ditz...we're left with 3 completely unlikeable performances and too many stereotypes to count. I'll wait for Kim Cattrall's next show!!

I kinda wasn't feeling it, but it grew on me towards the end. I will keep watching.
kirbie21829 December 2021
So, I definitely see what the other people are saying about the cringe worthiness of it all. I must admit there were quite a few bumps in the road throughout this episode, especially in the beginning. Like others have said, it did make it difficult to watch at times, but when it got into its groove-it really got there. It hit home for me around the time of Charlotte's daughter's piano recital, and then of course Big's shower scene. Those scenes alone were enough to hook me back in. Hopefully they will work out some of those bumps in the coming episodes because there was quite a few parts that were hard to watch, but it really did hit home there at the end, and I am once again a fan. I cried during the piano recital scene which was unexpected seeing how the first half of the episode was going. They need to fire these PC writers. I'm a liberal, and I still can't stand it. The writers are being far too obvious, & it's just plain weird, & uncomfortable for the viewer. I do miss Samantha (Kim Cattrall) a lot though, and I don't like how they're deliberately going out of their way to include all these black ppl like they're trying to make up for not casting them throughout the entire 9 season run of the Sex & The City series. Like WTF?! All the gay stuff too. Like, it's totes fine to talk about those issues, or gave black/LGBTQ + actors/actresses, but the way the way in which they are represented here just made it downright awkward & annoying AF. Thank God for the last 5-10 min, or am I not sure I could see myself sticking around. It looks like I'm not alone either.

It could have been worse...
withlovekatieb9 December 2021
I loved watching the actresses and their characters return, they were accurate and their interactions felt familiar which was nice. It still gave the familiar Sex and the City feel I was hoping for.

However - they are trying WAY too hard to be 'up to date'. Podcasts, 'white savior complex', Peloton, etc. I get what they're trying to do, but it's just plain awful and difficult to watch. Highly unnecessary in my person opinion.

Awful
binabojteslic17 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed SATC, but this is just bad. The podcast was not funny, the scene with Carrie and Big in the bedroom was CRINGEY. Not to mention how privileged they are behaving. In SATC they loved expensive and nice stuff, but now they are trying to hard to be relavant like a teenage girls with lots of money trying to be popular. It's just sad to watch.

good start
gian-andri949 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the episode. What I liked a lot was that they acknowledged all the elephants in the room like the pandemic or Samantha not being there. Plus they very openly talk about their age and how they've changed but also stayed the same, which is a really nice feeling. It feels so good to see those characters again being played by the same actors, feels like coming home.

Who wanted to make them into boomers?!
carinaconte12 December 2021
Just for starters: I loved the series and watched it religiously in my twenties. My problem with the first episode is that they wanted to shove in all appropriate cultural stuff; there is tokenism, LGBTQ+ stuff there that is just a little cringeworthy. The show's really trying too hard. I'm still going to watch it for the fashion and style, not so much for the "sex" part (like who is interested in the sex lives of strangers?!).

And Just Like That... I'M OUT
wendymfowler11 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Before watching the first episode and.a half, I would've told you I'm a die-hard SATC fan. I've watched the entire series more times than I can count.

And this is how they repay our loyalty.

They kill off Big, which was super obvious given how much they focused on how happy they were (and the post a friend shared about a trigger warning that the series deals with death/dying).

And Charlotte with her obvious facelift and constant whining about how it was all her fault. Oh woe is me. Just. Shut. Up. It isn't about you.

Really, Miranda?! It's one thing to let your kid's girlfriend move in, but you're cool with your son and his girlfriend in the next room being as loud as possible? Sorry but no. That's disgusting.

And for the over-the-top woke commentary. Was the original series SERIOUSLY lacking diversity? YES. A thousand times yes. Do we need to be hit over the head about woke culture? No. Please know that I am not a minority and therefore my opinion does absolutely come from a place of privilege. In no way do I intend offense. Do non-minorities have a lot to learn? Absolutely. But IMO this isn't the platform.

Finally, nobody here knows the REAL story about Kim Catrall not being in this series. I don't care how much she and SJP didn't get song. The FANS deserved better than for them to have her turn into a petty monster who refuses to talk to the girls just because Carrie didn't need her services anymore. They easily could've just said, "I miss Samantha but I'm so glad she's doing so well in London. I look forward to her visit." Almost anything except how they handled it.

I'M SO VERY DISAPPOINTED. I doubt I'll ever watch three original again which makes me sad. And just like that, I'm out.

Just watched first episode
burntorange18 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...not sure what it is but something is off. I thought the storylines were good and the characters had aged in a natural way, but it didn't flow. A women in her 50's doesn't have to talk about intimate details of her sex life, pod cast or not! I felt sorry for Carrie during that podcast! Ugh I thought the death scene was well-done and believable. The highlight for me was Lily playing at the recital- the performance, the dress, the curtesy, Rose jumping up- perfection! I would loved to have seen Anthony and Stanford's marriage difficulties explored more (RIP Willie).

Don't have HBO but I would watch other episodes if they were free.

Wow!!!!
emmybug269 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was worried at first! I wasn't getting the click of the show for the first 20 minutes. Once Lily's concert happened, it felt like the old gang again.

& let me tell you... the death scene of Big had me bawling hysterically. I wondered at first why didn't she just call an ambulance but I truly think Carrie saw the way Big was looking at her snd he was going to die and second. That's exactly why she kissed him & held him until he died. True love. I'm still crying. Great Start!!!!!!

Fantastic start to a new chapter!

So many expectations but this episode was perfectly balanced between the friendships and family, nostalgia and tieing up loose ends. It really packed a punch. Some great new characters too. Can't wait to watch more episodes!

They're back
Calicodreamin30 December 2021
The ladies are back, and better than ever. The absence was explained in as good a way as they could. The same vibe and chemistry was there, some comedic moments, and some touching moments.

Warning: Spoilers
Carrie is dumb!!! That scene at the end is ridiculous. Why didn't she call 911!!!!!!!!

Sarah Jessica's acting in the 2nd episode sucks too. She would me on the floor screaming

Only saving grace is Sanford. I love seeing Willie Garson. May he Rest In Peace. I miss him.

I like it better with three
mcginleyskgg6 January 2022
I'm in the minority opinion I'm sure but I prefer this show without Samantha. She was always so ridiculous and over the top. No one I've ever met spoke like her or acted like her. I watched it back in the day and bought all the dvds despite the fact that I thought Samantha was written so poorly. Now without her antics the show seems so much more real. I like that they show them with graying hair and realistically. It's refreshing. People hating on this because they got older are just sad. Don't watch it if you're offended by aging gracefully.

Why?
anthieee9 December 2021
Why did you have to ruin an epic girly series into THIS?

So cringy scenes, pathetic, depressing, awkward...pffff. Heavily pretentious, squeezing-in all the IT staff just to be relatable. Really, you didnt have to do this. Samantha was clever enough not to be part of this hideous project.

And just like that...you ruined it!

All haters of This show. Give it a chance. The First episode is usually slow. To re-Introduce you to the characters. I know the show will get better with time and like it's previous chapter. It will take off.

Give it a chance. !!

This is just too painful to watch !
boycandance12 December 2021
They turn all characters into stupid Karens.

I'm a big fan of SATC since were on tv but this one is just way too painful to watch. Not because of they're aging or anything but .....

This is sad just sad, understand why Kim Cattrall doesn't want to do it anymore.

And just like this
paulcc-5028211 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just like many fans of SATC, I couldn't wait to watch this show, despite my spidy senders telling me it would be a bad idea, as with many sequels. I have to say that I was sad to watch this beloved show make me depressed. However, the writers did something which is very hard to do in TV world. They made me laugh. I cried and then laughed, and by the end of the first episode all my feelings telling me that it was a bad idea evaporated into eagerness to stream the next episode. It is a very hard job turning a 90s TV show into a sequel in the age of the millennial, whilst still having the ability to make us fall back in love with the characters. The art of story telling, a second time round, can be tough, especially given the fact that not all the original members of the cast turned up, they turned out. The way they wrote Samantha into this episode was tasteful and on brand, and very Michael Patrick King. To summarise, if you want to enjoy the show, pay attention to the small details, as I think they make the pilot as great as the writers did. Looking forward to episode 2, but next time, I'll make sure I bring the tissues, for the loss, and the laughs.

Thank you for killing the pleasure of ever rewatching SATC and Big and Carrie's love story. Thang you for killing the best series ever in our youth. Go Big or go home. And for now, I really think it's time for all of this new show's creators to go home...
