Haters gonna hate. It's a slapstick comedy.
thejdrage17 June 2022
I love Melissa McCarthy and I appreciate her husband, Ben Falcone. BTW - he can sing! AND don't forget our favorite Gilmore Girls Frenchman, Yanic Truesdale (really a French Canadian).

This is a simple comedy with some slapstick added.

Do yourself a favor and don't take it at all seriously . All you have to do is observe McCarthy on the motorized 'thingy' and you can tell that this is not high art.

It's fun. It's silly. Personally, it did my soul good, after a crap week, I got to laugh and not care what anyone thought. YAY!!

Premise is nice but it just didn't hit
hazard11116 June 2022
I get the appeal of this. The concept seems fun and it's light hearted. The characters don't pop out as like overly annoying to me. But the overall delivery for me was just quite bland. It just didn't hit the notes. Sometimes I feel like oh yeah this scene is funny but then they stretch it out and it just loses the appeal of it...so before I even go ha ha it just dies.

If you're curious just check out the whole of first ep. If you like it then you'd like this because the overall tune is just same to me with hits and misses all over.

Not half bad once you get through half of it.

I really hated this through the first four episodes. And I considered quitting it altogether, however I began to warm up to the storyline and its characters. Leslie Bibb's Satan is a riot and I loved the depiction of God as a grandmotherly nurse. Furthermore, its message that all faiths are equally right is refreshing considering how polarized the actual world feels. For that I give this a strong 6.

Touched by God
eve_dolluk15 June 2022
An ordinary man who works in an office is blessed by gods light in his back garden.

This is the basic premise of the show, from here we follow the lead who is a simple man of simple needs ( not really an idiot ) and his coworkers in the his office job abound a religious journey.

Its a fairly basic sitcom that draws certain paralells with the office but not in fun and humour.

The jokes are a bit thin and its more of an expedited humour affair.

The only person I have recognised so far is Melissa Mcarthey who is not the titular lead but certainly takes on front and centre.

Overall its an interesting concept that lacks great humour and uses crazy events to find its fun.

There are however some nice sweet undertones to the show which I'm sure many will enjoy.

6/10.

Could of used the money for this to give us a proper end to Santa Clarita Diet!
ParrIM16 June 2022
Good idea poorly executed. The trailer made it look quite good, but unfortunately it's not.

Seriously Netflix, you could have taken the money used for this and given us a proper finish to Santa Clarita Diet.

God's favourite sitcom?
Laqshayaroraofficial15 June 2022
To be honest, I didn't liked the trailer of this show so had no expectations, but I just watched the 1st episode and it feels like a cool sitcom with likeable characters, some romantic tension, office comedy and a good storyline. Don't expect much from this show till now it's above average and easily watchable.

Writers thinking their every word is hilarious
oscarthepwd16 June 2022
Another dismal vanity project. If paid by the word, they've hit the jackpot. If paid by the laughs then no one's going to the bank. Rapid fire word salads, back and forth, going nowhere. Especially nowhere near a joke. This reminds me of Mike Myers Pentaverate. The ego has left the writer thinking everything is comedy gold and the actor relishes every line they've created. Just more dull stuff from Netflix.

A cute treat

Very cute show, made me laugh a lot. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone work great together. It's a very fun show and keeps you hooked right from the beginning. A very warm hearted show.

So much fun!
bondlady-6278015 June 2022
With all the negative and preachy stuff, this is just light-hearted and funny! They cast click and the timing is great. I saw a few negative reviews and just don't get it. Nothing else is just pure fun and the ensemble show's just work for me. Great, lighthearted fun!

Casual is the clincher.
karindesnoyers-5812217 June 2022
There is that "I don't know what I'm doing", uncomfortable imposter feeling that blends it's way through the episodes, as Clark tries to figure out what his mission is. I like this. This familiar feeling kept me watching, The series is funny, awkward, and reflective on the important smallness of Clark's life even after being given the ultimate role to elevate his fellow humans. He's not given clear instructions, there's red tape, unfair circumstances, distractions, and urgency. So much languishing. Feels like life itself. I'm rooting for Clark and his followers, to get through their work day and pull humanity safely through the end of times.

Lighthearted humor
ejohnson-2028314 July 2022
I really like Melissa McCarthy movies and Mike & Molly, this is a lighthearted, adult comedy, fun and amusing but not the best I've ever seen.

Kind of a mix of "The Office" and "Touched by an Angel" in a weird way.

Enjoyable

I ignored all the IMBD review snobs and watched for myself. I really found this show to be original and fun. I think it was exactly what I expected this type of show to be.

Mediocre and wasted opportunity
MustBeGus15 June 2022
The idea is not new (Kevin Probably Saves the World), but the potential of this series is somewhat wasted. I like the cast, the soft comedy, and the soundtrack, but the continuity is choppy. I recommend watching the first few episodes and if you don't care for it, you won't enjoy the rest.

Not a bad show to watch if you have a few hours

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, with the short episode and season length, it's worth it just to watch for some decent laughs.

However, the show has very little payoff including it's supposed central premise. The fact is that the main character isn't an idiot. He's a pretty average and likable dude so my expectation was to see more slapstick and silly humour, (think Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

There were other aspects of the narrative that never paid off this season such as Amily being a pretty fierce sword fighter. It seemed clear to me that the season would end with her having a legit sword fight with either the four horsemen or Satan herself. Unfortunately that never happened and we're left to wonder why.

Joke frequency is also a problem. I found that there was very little legitimate laughter. Most of the time I was waiting for the jokes to arrive.

Lastly, I don't see any reason why this show is rated for Mature Audiences only. There's some swearing, mentions of drug use, and some light violence. There's no blood or nudity. The rating never seemed earned.

Overall I expected better.

Chill Lawnboy This Show is Fun.
Eve_of_Destruction18 June 2022
I love watching Melissa McCarthy in anything comedic. She is always funny and It's nice seeing her work with her husband. Obviously their chemistry is great. Love all the office banter and I do find the series it funny. The rest of the cast was great as well. And Leslie Bibb as Satan? She is great.

But Lawnboy needs to relax. It's perfectly fine not to like an actor. What is not fine is to assume nobody else should like that actor either. And then go on to bash that actor, and the show, claiming they are getting a pass because you find them unfunny. (Now that made me laugh all over again). Bless his heart though. Really.

A new low for the Falcones
aehlswyth16 June 2022
When Ms McCarthy is guided by a competent director, she can be great. We loved her in Spy & The Happytime Murders. But, so far, every project that involves her husband has been a disappointment. Once again, they resort to her formulaic shtick of being louder & ruder than everyone else in the room. It's a tired & lazy way to be funny, and usually fails. If there are any sweet or kind moments in this, we won't see them. We had to leave at 20 minutes. Not our cup of tea.

Solid and entertaining
alan_holloway_222 June 2022
Whilst I am a fan of Melissa McCarthy, her husband has only ever presented her with middle of the road scripts in the movie world, forgettable but watchable stuff at best.

With God's Favourite Idiot he's actually delivered a good comedy series with interesting characters, not least his own centre stage good guy. McCarthy gets to be her best shouty self but also has proper acting opportunities at times.

I'm an atheist and the religious stuff is well done without being preachy. The whole thing is a very solid series that I wanted to watch all the way through soon as I could. Not hilarious, but light, frothy and fun throughout.

Why does Melissa McCarthy continue to work with her husband in dismal material. She is so talented but this mess will continue to end a career. This is just not funny.

Great

I wish people who do not like McCarthy would just stop watching, some of us think she is the best thing since grandmas knickers on a BBQ. This is a very specific kind of humor and some people just dont like that.

"The Good Place" Lite
Andrewmcal1 September 2022
God's Favorite Idiot was easy. I watched all 8 episodes in one sitting, and I wanted more. It was interesting, quirky, and nice. But, I feel like it's been done before and done better.

The writing is competent, but flat. It never addresses why the main character is chosen, except to say he's a nice, honest guy. It never gives any real incite into humanity, deities, or the divine. And, for this type of show to work, it has to have some of that as it's foundation. A lovable schnook will only suspend a very finite amount of disbelief, for a limited time.

The actors were good and the performances were solid. However, Melissa McCarthy seemed out of place. Her over the top style of zany comedy, toned down here, still placed too much attention on her and took away from the story. No disrespect to the actor, I think she's fantastic, but she was super duper miscast here. And, it really cost the series a ton, like mixing peanut butter and sushi.

Overall, it's a decent watch. It doesn't demand much attention. It would probably go great with $12 Chardonnay and some takeout. I give it a weak 6.5/10. I am a sucker for lovable schnooks and their stories.

I ADORE Melissa McCarthy, but...
paulat11116 June 2022
This show is just bad. I mean really, really bad. Her husband can't act, the supporting actors are pointless and seem to be there to try and add humor, but it fails miserably. The whole show is a mess. I gave it 3 stars because I will always adore Melissa McCarthy. Her husband may be super nice and a moderately good writer, but Melissa is so much better than this. Just an embarrassment.

Loved!
g_uzman18 June 2022
We loved this and were sad when we watched the last episode and realized there weren't any more. I really don't understand all of the low ratings as hubby and I enjoyed this so much. I am rating this a 10 to try and boost the rating score. So many hilarious moments and we really fell in love with every character especially Frisbee. Hope we get to see more!

Good little comedy
jamiekressinger19 June 2022
The hate squad out again trying to be smarter than what they actually are. And forgetting it's a simple little comedy. Seriously stop trying to look for things that shouldn't exist in the show. Try to enjoy your life for once.

O and for those saying it's a crime against Christianity etc etc. Well that's the biggest joke in history anyway so not sure what your point is there.

Nepotism can ruin things....
NullUnit15 June 2022
Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy are married.

There's a reason when you see one of them cast in something, you'll also see the other. More often than not Falcone is cast in less important and minor roles. This seems to be a first, casting him as a primary character. Of course, he has the creator credit, so....

It rarely matters if Falcone is the best actor for his role or McCarthy for hers. If either of them are producing or created the show, the other WILL be cast in it.

I, personally, don't feel Falcone can act. And he shows that effectively in this series.

And McCarthy, well, she's a one trick pony. McCarthy is the EXACT same character as she's ever been. She has the acting range of a squeek toy.

The real standout here is Chris Sandiford as Tom. He, although in a supporting role, essentially "carries" the entire series. He provides the comedy via his performance. No one else seems to.

Neither Flacone nor McCarthy seem to have the courage, or vision, to step back and realize projects may ultimately be better, and be better received, without BOTH of them as part of the cast. They really just don't have a great on-screen dynamic, even if they are happily married.

Rarely does blind nepotism help any project.

On the whole, the series falls completely flat. It unremarkable is pretty much every possible way.

sitcom vibes, likeable characters, nice story
imysterious29 June 2022
A LOT better than many TV shows being released these days. Only complaint is that it was too short, didn't have a fulfilling ending, and is not very likely to get renewed.
