The Jesters is an Australian satire about the day-to-day battles of a sketch comedy veteran turned producer. A slick, sick and darkly comic look behind-the-scenes of a TV comedy show that proves the old maxim that nobody likes a smartarse - unless, of course, they're bringing in huge ratings.
This is the best Australian sitcom I have seen since Frontline. It contains actual jokes, plots and wit. Mick Molloy is great as Dave Davies, Deb Kennedy is even better as his manager.
The show is half about Mick as a retired comedy star who's looking for work and half about the young guys he's producing in a new "satire" show (Read: "The Chaser").
Emily Taheny plays the female producer and Susie Porter is a network executive.
I don't want to describe the plots of these shows because it would take me too long! They are complicated, funny, fast moving and fast talking.
The highlight for me are the Mick and Deb Kennedy one on one chats in each episode. Very dry, very funny.
