- TriviaIn this all-pantomime show, Red and Marcel appear in an abbreviated version of 'Pinocchio' with Red portraying carpenter Geppetto and Marcel appearing as his wooden puppet. Red also mimes a man mixing a salad, a woman getting dressed in the morning, a tipsy doctor in surgery, and his poignant 'Old Man Watching a Parade.' Marcel mimes 'Bip's Tug-of-War', 'Bip the Dice Player' about a gambler, 'Bip the Skater' about an ice skater on some very slippery ice, and his show-stopper 'Bip as a Mask Maker' about the removal of a hideous mask and the revelation of the true person underneath. TV Guide commented on the contrasting style of these performers - Red in a more slapstick fashion and Marcel in a more gentle, nuanced manner. The New York Times described the show as 'Genius.' The Tom Hansen Dancers introduce each vignette. This program was taped on December 9, 1964 before an audience of dignitaries and the French Consul General of Los Angeles, Barrone Louis de Cabrol, hosted a black-tie event prior to the performance.
