Hysterically, Tanja Berg files a rape complaint against her employer Jens Netzer, forensic medicine proves a fight, but she washed away sexual traces. When Michael Kaiser and Martina Seiffert go arrest Netzer, they find him bloodily murdered in his office. A badly beaten young female corpse is found in a dumpster behind a Stuttgart bio-supermarket, where branch manager Klara Beil has explicit instructions to 'do something about' regular nocturnal raids on the containers, to recuperate edible food that was disposed as policy. Containing is practiced by both homeless and 'dumpster divers' on principal. The victim is identified as well-groomed Jennifer Sommer, an orphan who left guardian-uncle Julian von Schönhausen's villa a year ago, dropping out of college and moving in with anti-capitalist environmental activist Onno Baumgarten, whom a trap proves prone to violence, suspecting Klara Beil of the murder. Jo Stoll and Martina Seiffert find Julian owns the bio-chain and like Onno hid having been on the murder site. Jo arrests Klara, who admits having hit with a baseball bat. Chief Kaiser refuses to disqualify himself as too close to homeless witness Paul Lehmann, is former banker who saved him but not himself from bankruptcy, on whose clothes the victim's blood is found. Rico finds the bio-chain imported Ukrainian products and sold them as regional produce.

Stuttgart charity socialite Sarah Rosinger was found on the banks of river Neckar, fatally strangled with her talisman, the same kind of plush angel as used to decorate the fundraiser party she was expected at, hosted by the other founder of the humanitarian foundation, which recently extended its activities from children to traffic accident victims: Betty Achalm. wife of retired car race legend Enno. Betty Achalm reports recent anonymous threatening letters, and potentially compromising pictures from across her home, which Rico traces back to ambitious, seductive celebrity blogger Jonas Berglen, whose alibi may not be quite tight. Rico Sander also found Sarah Rosinger recently transferred foundation funds to a foreign account. She also drafter a letter to fire foundation assistant Tobias Leuthard, who waves that as usual impulsive noise and invokes an alibi. Betty Achalm's daughter Luna has a secret affair with Jonas Berglen and schemed to take Sarah Rosinger's place. Rico crucially links a picture of baby twins in Sarah's purse to an earlier death.

Three nocturnal knavish drunk intruders in the Stuttgart Natural history museum find the corpse of scientific staffer Dr. Markus Fink, fatally stubbed with an exhibited narwhal horn. Fink had an affair with his director Dr. Ulrike Plöger, but also rivaled her as better curator. IT-er Rico Sander finds a security video of Fink rowing with devoted, retired voluntary museum guard Ferdinand Horch, who claims it was just about his 'unqualified' tour guidance, which Ulrike Plöger welcomes. Markus Fink also was intimate with biology student and museum cashier Agnes Försching, who discovered her mentor's doctoral study is mostly plagiarized, yet denies blackmail. Arnaud discovers a rhino horn was swapped with a plaster fake, good enough to come from the museum's own workshop, and sold as 'Chinese traditional medication'. Precinct evidence room officer Friedemann Sonntag, who came to arrange the team building trip to the museum, stumbles upon a clue to link both crimes.

Matti realizes the murder must link to Magnus's month-long undercover job in a call-center where employee Marie Abel committed suicide, according to daughter Britta due to exploitation by the manager Jeanette Bröderle. Colleagues claim ignorance, Martina Seiffert goes undercover herself to study the motivational methods, rewards and threats. Stefan Walding considered Magnus his only rival for the employee of the month prize and serially seduces female colleagues, including suicidal Marie Abel and now Martina.

Released after ten years in prison for kidnapping an entrepreneur's wife, ruining him for the million Euro ransom, which was never found, Carla Funke surprises senior detective Martina Seiffert in her garage, having bitterly sworn revenge on her at the trial. However she now only besieges informal help to solve the kidnapping of her own son Alex Funke, a bright student who was raised by foster mother Susanne Seidle, who claims Alex refused any contact with his con mother or to attend her release. Prime suspect is Jürgen Sessler, who was ruined by paying it for the release of his wife Carla Funke, who left him and recently committed suicide. The team identified Carla's then accomplice, who may be after a share of the fortune or besotted with Carla, who may have staged everything to 'launder ' the cash. Sessler hired as amateur private detective student Hanna Schütz, who seduced Alex Funke. Then Carla Funke goes missing, but Rico guesses smartly.

Adrian Keppler's corpse is found, fatally head-shot at a lover's point, besides possibly failed-suicided Lea Wilhelm, his former secretary in the firm he retired from as chief. Jo Stoll is atypically late at the precinct, having found a baby at his boat, with an unsigned note to care for Karl. Comatose Lea Wilhelm must have been shot by a third person. Keppler's son and management successor Hannes Keppler and concrete firm colleague Bernd Aldinger see no possible motive. Fresh widow Bettina Keppler, also Adrian's former secretary, probably sensed the marriage was breaking down. Jo finds Lea Wilhelm, his ex, is Karl's mother, he may and would like to be the father, but that's another of her exes: rocker Rocky Hofer, an ex-con for illicit arms. A simple construction fraud provides another angle.

Stefan Marold was beaten to death in the prison shower, while awaiting trial for a millions fraud case at his employer's expense. All convicts refuse to talk, even Werner Gieß, Marold's only protector inside, obviously intimidated. Marold originally set up the secret accounts to finance his boss Christian Schmeil's many bribes, but started siphoning a large share abroad, while blackmailing Schmeil. All other detectives being known in jail, captain Kaiser must go undercover as 'transferred convict' and befriends Werner Gieß, the only match for prison bully gang leader Andreas Belzig, whom a star lawyer was promised, by Schmeil, to silence Marold. After Marold's corpse is stolen from the forensic morgue, whizkid Rico cracks Marold's musical accounting code, which later matches with the tattoo on his arm as key for the parallel accounting, which yields another suspect accomplice: Marold's lover Cornelia Mehring.

Shortly after engagement as marketing chef in Stuttgart firm "Airbird" and moving there, Anja Rottenberg is beaten to death in a park. Husband Hajo Rottenberg stayed in Hamburg, but mourns sincerely, albeit ignorant she had a secret abortion, apparently putting her career first as there's no trace of a lover. Private cardiac surgery clinic partner Dr. Ludger Kreilinger dies in his car from a shot in the heart. Kreilinger's clinic partner professor Markus Huber's sports car left trails at the site, he claims Ludger was already dead when he arrived for a meeting. Kreilinger was cancer-terminal and shot with his own gun, possibly suicide or mercy killing. Shattered fresh widow Kerstin offers alibi nor explanation, claiming to ignore his cancer. Manufacturer Thomas Gause sold cheap bypass equipment to prof. Huber which are only approved for veterinary use, Kreilinger threatened to expose them, so Huber is arrested. IT specialist Rico Sander however finds a suspicious patient death in a routine surgery Kreilinger and Huber performed recently.
