As far as investigators go, Jim Rockford (James Garner) is a bit of a departure from the mostly-polished (Columbo excepted) detectives of television's first decade. A slouchily dressed detective who lived in a trailer and served time in San Quentin, Rockford was cool — if not always collected. "The Rockford Files" ran for six seasons on NBC beginning in 1974 and was later resurrected for a series of '90s TV movies. In that time, audiences were introduced not only to Rockford, but to a cast of supporting characters including his truck driver dad Rocky (Noah Beery Jr.), LAPD pal Becker (Joe Santos), and the con artist Angel (Stuart Margolin).
Garner passed away in 2014, and only a few "Rockford Files" castmates are still with us today. Those who are still around include notable recurring guest stars like famously mustachioed "Blue Bloods" star Tom Selleck, Egot-winning multi-hyphenate Rita Moreno, and "Happy Gilmore" director...

JoBlo.com recently launched a new weekly documentary series called 80s Horror Memories, where each year of the 1980s has five episodes dedicated to it. Looking back at 1980, we discussed Maniac, Dressed to Kill, Alligator, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Prom Night, and The Fog. The second five episodes were a journey through 1981, covering The Funhouse, The Burning, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, The Evil Dead, The Howling, and An American Werewolf in London, as well as the careers of horror hosts Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and...

Horror in the year 2000 was something. Yeah, that’s it, it was something. A lot of it happened, some of it was great, some of it was good, and some of it, not so much. Actually, if the internet crowd is to be believed, the early 2000s, especially the year 2000 were abysmal for horror. We did get a few memorable films released in 2000 like the first Final Destination film, Cherry Falls, Ginger Snaps, The Cell, and American Psycho. However, the scales had some serious bad on the other side to balance it all out. Films like Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, Hellraiser: Inferno, Christina’s House, and Dracula 2000 (watch it Here) came and...

Director Robert Rodriguez‘s action thriller Hypnotic, which stars Ben Affleck (Air), has taken a bumpy road on its way out into the world. It was delayed by the pandemic, shut down on three separate occasions, mixed up in an insurance lawsuit, and its main financier and distributor crumbled while it was filming. The movie spent two years in post-production, without a domestic distributor in place. It finally reached theatres earlier this month, courtesy of Ketchup Entertainment – and now it has received a digital release on all major platforms! For example, Hypnotic can be viewed on Amazon at This Link.
Scripted by Rodriguez (Machete) and Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Hypnotic sees Affleck taking on the role of a detective who finds himself spiralling down a rabbit hole while investigating a series of reality-bending crimes mysteriously connected to his missing daughter. Aided by a gifted psychic, he is pursued by...

Nicolas Cage is carrying the unbearable weight of an in utero memory.
The Oscar winner and “Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” star shared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that his earliest memory is as an unborn child and seeing “faces in the dark” of his mother’s womb.
“Listen, I know this sounds really far out and I don’t know if it’s real or not,” Cage said during the “Colbert Questionert” rapid-fire Q&a, “but sometimes I think I can go all the way back to in-utero and feeling like I could see faces in the dark or something.”
He continued, “I know that sounds powerfully abstract, but that somehow seems like maybe it happened. Now that I am no longer in utero, I would have to imagine it was perhaps vocal vibrations resonating through to me at that stage. That’s going way back. I don’t know.

Nicolas Cage is standing by even his “crummy” movies that helped combat his staggering debts.
The Oscar-winner revealed on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that he was $6 million in debt after the real estate market crashed.
“I was over-invested in real estate. The real estate market crashed, and I couldn’t get out in time,” Cage said. “I paid them all back, but it was about $6 million. I never filed for bankruptcy.”
Cage continued, “It was dark, sure,” but he admitted that continuously working took his mind off things.
“Work was always my guardian angel,” the “Renfield” star said. “It may not have been blue chip, but it was still work. Even if the movie ultimately is crummy, they know I’m not phoning it in, that I care every time.”
Cage previously reflected on his multiple direct-to-video movies during that era, telling GQ in 2022, “When I was doing four movies a year,...

“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.
On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Henry Winkler stars as Cousineau, Barry’s acting teacher and the man forced to confront the reality of his former student.

We’re patiently waiting to hear of a release date for Play Dead, the morgue-set thriller from Patrick Lussier, director of My Bloody Valentine 3D (watch it Here) and Drive Angry (watch that one Here). And while we continue to wait to hear when we’re going to have the chance to see the movie, star Bailee Madison (The Strangers: Prey at Night) has taken the chance to build the hype for the film, describing it as “really horrifying”.
Speaking with Collider, Madison said Play Dead is “very different” and “so messed up. It’s basically just Jerry O’Connell and I the whole movie, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever done. It’s really… it’s really horrifying. Play Dead takes place in a morgue… it’s really all I can say. It’s really… yeah, my sister can’t watch it. I showed it to her a couple of weeks ago,...

The timeline of the "Halloween" movies is as clear as mud. At last count, David Gordon Green's 2022 film "Halloween Ends" will be the fourth film in its particular continuity, stemming from the 1978 original, but then skipping straight to the 2018 film. The "Halloween" series also did this in 1998 with the release of "Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later," which stemmed from the 1981 film "Halloween II". "Halloween III," incidentally, took place outside of the Michael Myers timeline, and "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers" ignored "Halloween III." Apart from John Carpenter's 1978 film, it seems, pretty much all the other "Halloween" sequels have been discarded at some point.
Also existing in its own pocket dimension is a pair of "Halloween" movies written and directed by Rob Zombie. In Zombie's rendition of the Michael Myers story, Michael (Tyler Mane) grew up in an abusive household, and a very particular set of...

Disney+ will be releasing an upcoming series based on the 2007 Nicolas Cage film, National Treasure and its sequel. This was much to the chagrin of movie franchise fans who pined for a trilogy. Worry no more, Cage fans! A script for National Treasure 3 has been written and is simply waiting for Cage’s approval.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who is involved with both the movies and Disney+ series, recently spoke about the franchise’s future in an interview while promoting the summer blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick with Comicbook.com. Bruckheimer has confirmed that a script for a third National Treasure film is complete. As they refine a final draft, he eagerly awaits Cage’s reaction as the producer thinks they have a winner on their hands.
In the interview, Bruckheimer is quoted, “Let’s hope, we’re working on the script right now. Hopefully, [Cage] likes it, but it’s really good.

Tom Holland is having quite a moment on the VOD charts right now. “Uncharted” (19.99) leads at Vudu and iTunes, while the actor’s other blockbuster, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is #1 at Google Play. Sony’s dominance of this week’s PVOD charts, with newly released “Uncharted” and long running “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (5.99) splitting the #1 spots on the three charts we follow, reinforces two narratives.
First, not having an in-house streaming service need not deprive a studio from reaping strong at-home revenues. Second, and critical for theaters as they recover, is that a long window is no hindrance to reaping the benefits of initial high return PVOD prices.
Contrast that with “The Batman” (Warner Bros./24.99). After two full weeks out on PVOD and on HBO Max (free there for subscribers), along with an HBO cable showing, the biggest 2022 grossing film fell to #3 at Vudu, and #6 at both iTunes and Google Play.

When The Irishman innovated de-aging effects in 2019, few could have foreseen its use to resurrect the batshit, snake skinned Nicolas Cage of 1990’s Wild at Heart. Fewer still would have expected this iteration of Nicolas Cage to appear on screen next to… Nicolas Cage.Seeing the Nick Cage of 2022 argue, fight and even make out with his 26-year-old self are the most outrageous meta moments of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Tom Gormican’s smartly realised buddy film.
Now, Cage has long been one of Hollywood’s leading idiosyncrasies, building a lengthy filmography that ranges from the bargain bin to the Academy Awards. Yet this filmwould not have worked 10 years ago, even though it draws on his ‘90s blockbusters such as The Rock and Face/Off.

Nicolas Cage is still big. It’s the movies that got small The actor is making the rounds for his latest film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a role that calls for Cage to play a fictionalized version of himself. It marks something of a comeback for Cage after a string of movies that did less than boffo box office. He claimed the phone stopped ringing after films like Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance sank. Not helping matters was the perception that Cage was spinning out of control, owing the IRS $6.3 million in unpaid property taxes and having a monthly nut that far exceeded his income. Cage started taking any role that was offered, according to his candid interview in GQ Magazine, . “The phone stopped ringing. It was like, ‘What do you mean we’re not doing ‘National Treasure 3’? It’s been 14 years. Why not?'” Deep down,...

Around 2014, after Nicolas Cage had a string of box office flops with the likes of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” the actor started becoming the face of straight-to-vod action movies. Those roles piled up in the dozens as reports surfaced that Cage blew his $150 million fortune, owed the IRS $6.3 million in property taxes and was taking every acting role he could in order to get out of debt. The actor recently clarified this period of his life in an interview with GQ magazine.
“I’ve got all these creditors and the IRS and I’m spending $20,000 a month trying to keep my mother out of a mental institution, and I can’t,” Cage said about his debts. “It was just all happening at once.”

Nicolas Cage’s sometimes over-the-top performances, complete with meme-worthy lifted brows and bulging eyeballs, are getting their own showcase. “People think I’m not in on the joke,” the headline of his 2013 Guardian profile reads. Lest there be any doubt, he’s now acted in and produced a feature-length film to prove his point.
Channeling the meta-ness of “Adaptation,” Cage stars in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” as a debt-ridden, washed-up actor named Nick Cage and as Nicky, his alter ego and a bad angel of sorts who appears to be 1980s-vintage Cage, here to facilitate internal dialogue. Per the film’s concocted biographical details, he has an ex-wife named Olivia (Sharon Horgan), a makeup artist he met on the set of “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,” and a teenage daughter named Addy (Lily Mo Sheen), who thinks Humphrey Bogart was an adult film performer.

This year’s 74th Edinburgh International Film Festival will host the European premiere of Nicolas Cage’s latest flick “Pig,” the debut directorial feature from award-winning editor Michael Sarnoski (“The Testimony”). Edinburgh Festival and Cage have a long and amicable relationship. In 2014 the festival hosted the well-received “Joe,” in which he starred alongside Tye Sheridan, and two years ago the fest co-programmed a special sidebar called Cage-a-rama 3D with Matchbox Cineclub, screening a double-header of “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” and “Drive Angry,” both in 3D. “Pig” will screen on Wednesday, Aug. 18, in the Festival Theatre.
“The Oscar winner delivers his best performance in years as a chef-turned-recluse who briefly reenters society,” praised Variety’s Michael Nordine in his review of the film earlier this month. Cage plays a truffle hunter searching the Pacific Northwest for his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped.

Hollywood actress Amber Heard says she does not want to play somebody who fits into a category easily because she does not fit into a category easily.
At present, Heard is seen essaying the role of Nadine Cross, who has retained her virginity because she thinks that she is destined for something "dark and unique", in the dark fantasy series, "The Stand". There is no set definition that can be used to describe her character, and that aspect drew Heard to the show.
"That is exactly why I wanted to play Nadine... because of that element. That dynamic that people do not know what to make of her, makes her an infinitely more interesting character for me, and a much more compelling character to play. It is much more interesting to me as an actor for me to take on and embody," Heard said.

As hard as it might be to believe these days, there was once a time when every Nicolas Cage project went straight to the big screen. Over the last decade, though, the Academy Award winner has been plumbing the depths of VOD mediocrity and hasn’t seen any of his live-action star vehicles secure a wide theatrical release for years, but his B-movie future was foreshadowed as early as 2011 thanks to the double whammy of supernatural fantasy Season of the Witch and 3D actioner Drive Angry.
The latter saw Cage play a convict who literally escapes from hell after a cult murders his daughter and steals her baby, and the schlocky throwback is just as insane as that brief synopsis makes it sound. The sort of enjoyably trashy flick that goes down well late at night, Drive Angry had no pretensions about being high art and fully embraces the sheer insanity of the concept.

It’s a good thing Brie Larson is at peace with her earlier heartbreaks. In a video she posted on Thursday, the “Captain Marvel” star rattled off all the movies she auditioned for and didn’t get — and it’s quite the list.
Larson broke her list down into movies she auditioned for and then missed out on, as well as movies she made it to the final round for and still didn’t get. And all of these were just from between 2008 and 2009.
“It’s a lot of heartbreak, folks. Here I am, still standing,” she said after running down her list.
Hearing Brie Larson rattle them off rapid-fire is delightful and hilarious, but in case you can’t watch, here’s the full list, including some blockbusters, Oscar-winners, some real stinkers and even a pair of Marvel movies!

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been in a seemingly never-ending legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard (Aquaman) for years now, and while most of the evidence so far has shown Heard to be the primary abuser in their tumultuous marriage, it’s not like Depp is completely innocent in all this. Director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer have re-teamed for Trick, which stars Omar Epps in the main role of Detective Mike Denver, a man obsessed with a serial killer that has remained one step ahead of him for years.
An elusive serial killer, “Trick,” returns each Halloween to kill innocent victims. Detective Mike Denver (Omar Epps) faced Trick once before, shooting him off a five-storey building. When Trick’s body disappears into the town river, everyone thinks he’s dead. Only Denver believes he’s still alive. But now, as strange occurrences disrupt the peace of the town, nobody can deny that Trick has returned. Obsessed with catching the murderer, Denver will do whatever it takes to stop Trick claiming their next victim.
Trick also stars Ellen Adair as Sheriff Lisa Jayne, the sheriff in the small town of Benton who has always considered Detective Denver as her mentor.
