Netflix has assembled an exciting cast for a heist thriller from “City of God” and “The Two Popes” director Fernando Meirelles. Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones will all star in “Here Comes the Flood” for the streaming service.

Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria announced the news during the streamer’s Upfronts presentation on Wednesday. The film hails from writer Simon Kinberg, who is also producing the film alongside Audrey Chon for his Genre Films banner, as is Meirelles. Samson Mucke is executive producing.

“Here Comes the Flood” is an unconventional heist movie about a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief in a deadly game of cons and double crosses.

Kinberg’s script dates as far back as 2020, when Netflix first won the spec script from Kinberg and later when Jason Bateman was in talks to direct the film. Now though, Pattinson has just closed his deal to star.

Diego Calva Talks Kissing Jacob Elordi & Why Filming Nsfw Scenes With Him In 'On Swift Horses' Was Intimidating
Image
Diego Calva is opening up about filming On Swift Horses with Jacob Elordi!

In the movie, the two play two characters who meet and start a hidden romance, with a steamy relationship.

This, of course, leads to scenes where they both end up in sexual encounters, and having to be without clothes.

In a recent interview, Diego dished on having to be naked on set with Jacob and what it was like kissing someone who is very tall.

Keep reading to find out more…

“There was one moment, probably the first scene when I realised how tall Jacob was and it was my first time acting looking up,” Diego told Attitude mag. “He was laughing at me! He’s way taller – I had like a neck pain for the first week from just kissing.”

As for filming sex scenes, Diego noted it was intimidating with Jacob.

“Believe me, being naked around Jacob Elordi is intimidating!

Image
While filming On Swift Horses, Diego Calva experienced some whiplash that was not equestrian-related.

The Golden Globe nominee recalled suffering “neck pain” while kissing 6’5″ scene partner Jacob Elordi in some steamy scenes from the Daniel Minahan-helmed queer romance, now playing in theaters.

“There was one moment, probably the first scene when I realised how tall Jacob was and it was my first time acting looking up,” he told Attitude. “He was laughing at me! He’s way taller – I had like a neck pain for the first week from just kissing.”

Calva also admitted to being intimidated around his co-star in their nude scenes. “Believe me, being naked around Jacob Elordi is intimidating! He’s like a fucking god! He’s too perfect! … It’s hard not to do a hot scene with Jacob shirtless!” he said.

Jacob Elordi Has a New 100% Rotten Tomatoes Drama and No One Is Watching It
Image
In the last five years or so, Jacob Elordi has established himself as one of Hollywood's brightest new (male) talents. It's a wonder that Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza didn't cast him in their recent film Warfare. But perhaps he was occupied; Elordi is currently working on the long-awaited third season of HBO's Euphoria, but did you know that a fix for his fans is available right at this moment? He's headlining the Prime Video series The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which debuted on April 18 to incredible reviews, but doesn't seem to have made much of a noise.

In fact, the show hasn't even hit Prime Video's domestic top 10 charts in the last three days, according to data collated by FlixPatrol. That being said, it's finding an audience in Elordi's home country of Australia. The Narrow Road to the Deep North has been averaging between 15 and 30 "points" on FlixPatrol this past week,...

‘Pink Floyd at Pompeii – McMlxxii’ Remastered Concert Film Rocks Indie Weekend
Image
It was a booming box office weekend overall with a duo of event films popping too as fans flooded Pink Floyd and flocked to Mozart. On Swift Horses debuted in moderate release, Magic Farm opened at one theater. The Legend Of Ochi and The Shrouds expanded.

Pink Floyd at Pompeii – McMlxxii, the concert film from Sony Music Vision and Trafalgar Releasing, has grossed an estimated $2.6 million in North America for a no. 9 spot. Digitally re-mastered in 4K from the original 35mm footage by Pink Floyd’s director of restoration, Lana Topham, and featuring newly enhanced audio mixed by Steven Wilson, this release presents the definitive version of the film from Sony Music’s Film and TV division.

Pink Floyd At Pompeii predates the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon and the film documents the band before they became giants on both sides of the Atlantic. Set in the...

Why Ryan Coogler Deserved That Rich ‘Sinners’ Deal
Image
On this week’s Screen Talk, co-hosts Anne Thompson and Ryan Lattanzio dig into Ryan Coogler’s $90-million period vampire musical “Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan as twins Smoke and Stack, as well as the boffo box office and the controversial deal.

Warners opened the movie to a bigger-than-expected $48 million Easter weekend, and a weak $15 million overseas. The only other horror film to ever earn an A CinemaScore was James Cameron’s sequel “Aliens” in 1986. It’s rare and bodes well for a broader audience. Nearly half of the opening-day audience was Black, which increased to 38 percent by the weekend’s end.

Warners has bragging rights over this one and, with “A Minecraft Movie,” enjoyed two movies grossing over $40 million. It spells some relief for embattled studio heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. The movie is original and unusual, and thoughtful and entertaining enough to warrant success. It’s...

‘On Swift Horses’ Director Explains How Jacob Elordi & Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Dynamic “Transcends Sexuality”
Image
Although Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones lead the upcoming romantic drama On Swift Horses, don’t expect the typical sparks between the pair.

Director Daniel Minahan teased the film, now playing in theaters, and how the dynamic between Elordi’s Julius and Edgar-Jones’ Muriel “transcends even sexuality” to explore the LGBTQ characters’ “platonic” romance.

“I thought it was so unique, the idea of these two queer people falling in love and having this huge impact on each other’s lives,” Minahan told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a romance that’s platonic, but it transcends even sexuality. It was a really interesting way to keep people apart, but they have almost a twinning or a spiritual bond.”

In On Swift Horses, Muriel and husband Lee (Will Poulter) begin a new life together in California after he returns home from the Korean War. But the arrival of Lee’s charismatic younger brother...

On-Air Film Review: Gonna Take a Ride in the 1950s 'On Swift Horses'
Image
Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson for Wbgr-fm on April 24th, 2025, reviewing the new film “On Swift Horse,” based on a novel about two souls seeking identity. In theaters on April 25th.

Daisy Edgar-Jones is Muriel, a Kansas gal in the 1950s who will eventually marry Lee (Will Poulter), who is the brother to Julius (Jacob Elordi). The trio make a triangle, and make a promise to move together to San Diego, but Julius takes a detour in Las Vegas, where he takes up with Henry (Diego Calva), and they make other promises to each other. Meanwhile Muriel is setting up house with Lee, but finds herself attracted to neighbor Sandra (Sasha Calle). Instead of boy girl boy it’s now boy boy and girl girl … not the best situation to be in during the uptight 1950s.

”On Swift Horses” is in theaters on April 25th.

‘On Swift Horses’ Review: Daisy Edgar-Jones and Jacob Elordi Are Sexy, Queer Gamblers in Gentle 1950s Drama
Image
I blame “Ozzie and Harriet.” The 1950s are often treated like a halcyon era for American culture, when all the cars were colorful land yachts, all the steaks were the size of a human head and four out of five doctors said smoking was good for you. Yup, the TV claimed that everything was just ducky in the United States in the 1950s. Unless of course you were a woman. Or if you weren’t white. Or if you were queer in literally any way.

Daniel Minahan takes us back to the decade of quiet desperation with his adaptation of “On Swift Horses,” a 2019 novel by Shannon Pufahl. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Muriel, whose Korean War veteran boyfriend Lee (Will Poulter) has asked her to marry him many times. Which, as we all know, is in no way a red flag and just means you have to ask more often.

Will Poulter, Diego Calva, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sasha Calle, and Jacob Elordi in On Swift Horses (2024)
On Swift Horses (2025) Movie Review: Old Fashioned Romance Is Elegantly Made, Beautifully Acted
Will Poulter, Diego Calva, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sasha Calle, and Jacob Elordi in On Swift Horses (2024)
Although great novels do not always translate perfectly to the screen, using a profound piece of literature as inspiration is rarely a mistake. Many of the hardest aspects of storytelling are crafting characters with interiority, developing a world that feels like it could exist beyond the confines of the specific narrative, and detailing a time and era that informs the context of the situation. As a novel, “On Swift Horses” may have been pitched as an attempt to recapture the spirit of the “Great American Epic,” as there are innumerable comparisons to be made with the work of William Faulkner, John Steinbeck, and F. Scott Fitzgerlad. As a film, Daniel Minhan’s directorial debut is absorbing and understated, even if it often feels overexerted in trying to bring to life every detail from the page.

Set in the midst of the Korean War, “On Swift Horses” explores the lives of...

‘On Swift Horses’ Review: Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones Shine in an Elegant Saga of Lost Connections and the Gamble of Living on Your Own Terms
Image
Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Sony Pictures Classics releases “On Swift Horses” in theaters Friday, April 25.

“A gambler only has one obligation: to keep himself informed.”

When Julius (Jacob Elordi) dispenses this wisdom to his sister-in-law Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones) he’s ostensibly talking about cheating in card games. But in “On Swift Horses,” his words cause ripples beneath the surface in a makeshift family where nearly everyone is living a lie. He’s a gambler addicted to the highs of life, traversing desert casinos to chase the thrill of stealing a quick buck and fleeting connections with gay lovers. And she’s a married woman whose attraction to other women is becoming harder and harder to ignore, prompting her to start betting on horses to fund the kind of double life she’s starting to suspect she’ll need. Like moths to dueling flames,...

On Swift Horses Review: Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones explore their sexuality in this period drama
Image
Plot: Muriel and her husband Lee are about to begin a bright new life, which is upended by the arrival of Lee’s brother. Muriel embarks on a secret life, gambling on racehorses and discovering a love she never thought possible.

Review: In 2005, it was considered radical that Brokeback Mountain would get a wide theatrical release, considering it was a homosexual love story. How times have changed. Two decades later, On Swift Horses is the latest in a long line of queer films that boast substantial star power and nuanced narratives about same-sex relationships. The stigma is no longer as prominent as it once was, but there is still something to be said about heterosexual actors playing gay characters. Still, it bodes well for box office performance when you have up-and-coming talents like Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones in those roles. On Swift Horses, based on Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 novel of the same name,...

On Swift Horses Review: An Endearing Melodrama With an Alluring Ensemble
Image
Note: This review was originally published as part of our 2024 TIFF coverage. On Swift Horses opens in theaters on April 25.

It’s been some time since we’ve had such a ridiculously attractive lineup of buzzworthy young actors as the quartet starring in Daniel Minahan’s On Swift Horses. Daisy Edgar-Jones, the tremendously talented star of Twisters and Normal People, is Muriel, a young woman in 1950s Kansas. Her soon-to-be husband, Lee, is played by Will Poulter, who has shined in everything from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to Kathryn Bigelow’s underrated Detroit. Returning from Korea––and making his introduction to Muriel shirtless, reclining on a car––is Lee’s brother, Julius. Yes, friends: the devil-may-care Julius is played by Jacob Elordi. I have not even gotten to the characters played by Babylon’s Diego Calva and Sasha Calle, a.k.a., the best thing about The Flash.

‘On Swift Horses’ Review: Daniel Minihan’s Unusually Chaste ’50s Queer Melodrama
Image
The American dream in all its slippery indefinability and spurious promise is the guiding light of Daniel Minihan’s On Swift Horses, based on the novel by Shannon Pufahl. In the tradition of The City and the Pillar, Giovanni’s Room, and The Price of Salt, the film looks at midcentury gay and lesbian life as a series of quotidian tragedies of compromise in the pursuit of health, wealth, and happiness. This was an era of national, capitalistic self-determinism that excluded queer individuals from the promised joys of the post-war boom.

Jacob Elordi stars as Julius, who, after an early discharge from the Korean War, winds his way back to the homestead of his brother, Lee (Will Poulter), and sister-in-law to be, Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones). Lee is thrilled to have his wayward brother by his side, and the trio eagerly plan a future in California together. Six months later, though,...

‘Warfare’ Reconstructs Real Navy Seal Mission With Ground-Level Focus
Alex Garland in 28 Days Later (2002)
Warfare, co-directed and co-written by Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, draws from firsthand accounts of a Navy Seal mission in Ramadi, Iraq, in November 2006. The script is based entirely on the memories of Mendoza and his fellow SEALs, offering a close-up view of an overnight surveillance operation that shifted into active conflict.

The film begins with a unit of Navy SEALs splitting into three teams. Their task: occupy a residential building under cover of darkness to observe enemy movement and secure the area for incoming ground forces. The mission, carried out in a region known for Al Qaeda activity, unfolds in confined interior spaces with little exposition and minimal dialogue. Military jargon is used without translation, and characters are shown as coordinated parts of a functioning team rather than as individually profiled figures.

The cast includes D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai as a young Ray Mendoza. Woon-a-Tai gained attention for his work on Reservation Dogs,...

How Will Poulter Went From Conscientious Objector to Soldier of Fortune in ‘Warfare’
Image
After 20 years in the business, there are a few things that Will Poulter has noticed about his public perception, and they’ve been coming up a lot lately. The first is that few people can accept the fact that he really is British. When he appeared in a surprise guest role on season two of The Bear as the soft-spoken and heavily tattooed English pastry chef Luca, his West London accent was so authentic, nobody believed it was real. He remembers getting a review in which the critic wrote “Will Poulter does his best attempt at a British accent …”

“People are also commenting on my height,” he goes on, referencing the second thing the public gets wrong about him. “Everyone says, ‘You’re taller than I thought you’d be.’ I never know what to say — I grew up short, and it very much formed my entire personality. So, I...

While not quite delivering on the promise she showed in her first feature El Planeta, Amalia Ulman’s Magic Farm is a zany odyssey that finds the satire in Vice News-type journalism. Kent M. Wilhelm said in his Sundance review, “I was sold on the premise of satirizing opportunistic content creators who play dress-up as journalists, but weaving that into the storylines of the ensemble cast is no easy task for a sophomore feature. The plot gets lost; when it feels like there’s too much going on,...

Daisy Edgar-Jones said in an interview with Elle Magazine that she is quite fortunate her A-list male co-stars have never taken issue with her being the lead star over them. She first broke out onto the scene opposite Paul Mescal in “Normal People” before co-starring with Sebastian Stan (“Fresh”), Harris Dickinson (“Where the Crawdads Sing”), Glen Powell (“Twisters”), Andrew Garfield (“Under the Banner of Heaven”) and Jacob Elordi (“On Swift Horses”). Edgar-Jones joked that she’s basically “worked with all of the internet’s boyfriends,” so much so that she’s just got “Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler left.”

Twisters Spins Its Way to New Streaming Home and Finds Instant Success
Image
After swirling through the box office and making an impact, Twisters spins its way onto a new streaming service. The long-awaited sequel to the award-winning original, Twister, debuts on Amazon Prime Video and finds instant success on the popular streamer.

Twisters debuted via Prime Video on Mar. 18, nearly eight months after its theatrical debut, and is already the top-ranked movie on the platform. The disaster film sequel's Prime Video success adds to its streaming prowess on Peacock, where it debuted last November and outperformed the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer with its early returns.

Coming nearly three decades after the Oscar-nominated Twister, Twisters is a standalone sequel to the original, not carrying over characters or storylines from the first film, though it maintains the movie's spirit. The film sees Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) return to storm chasing after a tragic event from her days as a meteorology student, looking to track a tornado...

‘On Swift Horses’ Review: Daisy Edgar-Jones Wagers There’s More to Marriage in ’50s-Set Drama
Image
When “On Swift Horses” played as a secret screening at the Palm Springs Film Festival in January, at least half a dozen people walked out, not because it’s bad but because a certain contingent of the normally open-minded art-house audience hadn’t signed up for a gay love story. For that reason, it feels like the opposite of a spoiler — something between a consumer service and a selling point — to address what the festival capsules only coyly imply, using phrases like “self-discovery” (Toronto) and “exploring a love she never dreamed possible” (SXSW).

Adapted from the well-regarded novel by Shannon Pufahl, director Daniel Minahan’s queer period drama explores the challenges of coming out in the 1950s, as two characters attracted not to one another — as those deliberately deceptive plot synopses would have you think — but to members of their own genders. Knowing that allows you to focus not on...

Chloe Domont Sets ‘Fair Play’ Follow-Up Legal Thriller ‘A Place In Hell’ with Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones — Report
Image
Chloe Domont may have shown a relationship hellscape with Sundance hit erotic thriller “Fair Play,” but the writer/director is venturing further into Dante’s nine circles with her new feature, “A Place In Hell.”

Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones will lead the legal thriller, which will be written and directed by Domont. “Fair Play” was Domont’s feature directorial debut. She previously wrote on series such as “Ballers.” IndieWire has reached out to confirm this news, but received no response as of publication.

Deadline first reported the project.

“A Place In Hell” is billed as a “thriller following two women at a high profile criminal law firm.” MRC and T-Street are producing the feature. Star Thrower, Ram Bergman, and Rian Johnson’s banner T-Street at MRC formerly funded “Fair Play.”

“Fair Play” starred Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich as a couple who both worked at a hedge fund. While...

Michelle Williams & Daisy Edgar-Jones To Star In Chloe Domont’s Next Film ‘A Place In Hell’ From MRC And T-Street
Image
Exclusive: Another hot package is getting ready to hit the market as Deadline is hearing MRC and T-Street are putting together A Place in Hell, the next film from Fair Play director Chloe Domont, starring Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones. Domont will write and direct with MRC financing and T-Street producing.

Described as a thriller following two women at a high-profile criminal law firm, sources say the package is expected to hit the market in coming weeks.

Domont’s most recent film Fair Play was one of the breakout hits at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, with Netflix ultimately making it one of the major acquisitions of the festival. Once word got out last fall that Domont had her next film lined up, it wasn’t long before top tier talent like Williams and Edgar-Jones were on board.

Williams is a five-time Oscar nominee for My Week with Marilyn, Blue Valentine,...
