Members of the Detroit Police and Fire Departments are required to live within the city limits of Detroit. A uniform would never brag to a detective about living in Ferndale, which is a suburb of Detroit. There are several scattered police neighborhoods in Detroit.

[Looking over the murder board with Washington, where victims' names are in red or black according to their status]

Det. Louis Fitch: Get 'em solved. Make room for the next one. We might be the last assembly line in Detroit.

The actors themselves don't seem to believe in the stupid script
Well-shot, in a post-CSI way, but script-wise, this is one of the worst crime series i have seen in the last ten years. Most actors are good (with some exceptions that look like hard cases of horizontal recruitment) but they just don't seem motivated by their implausible lines and "psychology", and by the inanity of the plot which seems written for a 3-year old audience (while wanting to appear sophisticated at the same time, go figure). And the self-righteousness and lack of humor of the show feels horrible. I'd rather watch 3 episodes of Rizzoli and Isles, a series which has only half of those flaws and at least makes me laugh on purpose sometimes, than one episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
