Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec are reuniting for a new TV series.
The duo, who previously brought The Vampire Diaries to The CW, are taking a stab at another supernatural series.
This time, however, they'll be collaborating in the world of streaming.
Peacock announced today the straight-to-series order of supernatural drama series Dead Day, based on the bestselling AfterShock comic-book series created by Ryan Parrott, from producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson.
The pair will serve as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers.
Dead Day follows an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business -- be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living.
“Dead Day combines an exciting, high-concept premise with relatable characters and real emotion,” said Lisa Katz, president scripted content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

You'll want to sink your teeth into this update! Vampires were just about everywhere in the mid '00s: The Twilight franchise dominated the box office, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries aired on television and teens devoured the Vampire Academy book series. However, at a certain point, Hollywood's obsession with vampires began to wane. For instance, even Tvd's first spinoff The Originals ended its run in 2018 after five seasons. Yet, just when we thought true crime documentaries would be the obsession of now, American Horror Story and Midnight Mass have proven that blood-sucking characters still have a place in TV. We first spotted the return of vampires in part one...

Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy is one of those beloved book franchises that should have gotten a TV series adaptation at least five years ago. Set in a world in which two distinct races of vampires—the Moroi and the Strigoi—exist, the six-book series centers the best friendship between Moroi princess Lissa and half-vampire bodyguard Rose.

Spain is no longer a distant country for international film and TV shoots, as the industry builds dramatically amid a flash flood of public financing.
In May 2020, as the first wave Covid-19 roiled the country, Spain’s Psoe socialist government raised the cap from €3 million ($3.6 million) to $14.4 million for both tax rebates for international projects and tax credits for local productions. Deduction rates edged up from 25% to 30% of investment.
In March, prime minister Pedro Sánchez raised the ante with a $1.9 billion Avs Hub Plan for 2021-25 to power up the local film and TV production industry and encourage big foreign players to shoot and set up production offices in Spain.
Already, thanks in part to a vaccination drive decimating infections, international shoots in Spain surpass pre-pandemic levels.
“Even in such a globally competitive marketplace, Spain remains one of the world’s leading destinations for producers wishing to capture content,” says Mike Day,...

With all the content that Peacock is taking on at this time one might wonder why another teenaged vampire series would be the direction that anyone wants to go in. It’s true, for a while this genre was extremely popular and there are still plenty of people who would claim that they’re excited to see it happen again, but the idea that Vampire Academy flopped as a movie might have emboldened someone to think that it could succeed as a series instead. Of course, there’s a good bet that it might actually do that since it could use the extra

Former Bond and “Penny Dreadful” actor Eva Green is being sued in London’s High Court for allegedly derailing a £4 million ($5.22 million) sci-fi thriller, “A Patriot,” in which she was to have starred alongside Helen Hunt and Charles Dance.
A deal was announced in May last year for Green, whose recent credits include “Dumbo,” “The Luminaries” and “Proxima,” to play the part of Kate Jones, a captain in the Border Corps of a futuristic authoritarian state. Dan Pringle was to have directed from his original screenplay.
Green, who was also an executive producer on the project, last month started legal proceedings of her own against the film’s producer, White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd. The actor said she had a “pay or play” agreement, entitling her to a £800,000 ($1.04 million) fee even though the project was abandoned. She is also seeking to have the film company pay her legal costs.

Harvey Weinstein’s lead attorney Donna Rotunno asked the judge to silence Gloria Allred, the high-powered attorney who is representing three women who’ve testified in the New York rape trial.
Before the jury entered the courtroom on Friday morning, the fourth day of deliberations, Rotunno made a complaint on the record to the judge regarding Allred’s “attacks” about her in the media. Rotunno noted that on Feb. 18, the judge issued a gag order, telling the defense to stop speaking to the media. Rotunno argued the same order should apply to Allred.
Rotunno said Allred “feels the need to go out on a daily basis” to speak about her, and claimed the A-list attorney is essentially a mouthpiece for the prosecution, describing her as “an extension of the government.”
“She can attack me all she wants,” Rotunno said, calling Allred’s statements “unprofessional” and her behavior “horrible.”

It’s official: Bumpy Johnson will return to the streets of Harlem once again. Epix has renewed its crime drama — and “American Gangster” prequel — “Godfather of Harlem” for a second season.
Starring Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker as the infamous gangster and crime boss Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson, Epix’s “Godfather of Harlem” takes place in 1963, immediately after Johnson is released from an 11-year stint at Alcatraz. Upon returning to his Harlem neighborhood, Johnson takes on Vincent “Chin” Gigante (Vincent D’Onofrio) and the Italian mob that brought things to shambles and strikes up an alliance with his old friend Malcolm X.
Co-created by “Narcos” co-creators Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, “Godfather of Harlem” is described as a series about the “collision of the criminal underworld and the civil rights movement during one of the most tumultuous times in American history.”
“Godfather of Harlem season one was a remarkable success, tripling previous...

Talita Maia, an actress, former friend and roommate of Harvey Weinstein accuser Jessica Mann, testified today that at no time did Mann appear to be disturbed or upset about Weinstein, even on the night Mann alleges she was raped by the Hollywood producer while Maia was just outside his bedroom door.
And in what was another critical hit against prosecution witnesses, model and social media influencer Claudia Salinas — who Weinstein accuser Lauren Young says helped lure her to Weinstein’s hotel room and then locked her in a bathroom with the naked mogul — flatly denied the event ever happened.
“Absolutely not,” said Salinas, a social media influencer in the fashion arena. “I would never do that. I would never close the door behind anyone.” Salinas denied that she’d ever been alone with Young and Weinstein in a hotel suite, and that she had never seen Weinstein naked, contrary to Young’s testimony last week.

Model Lauren Young has accused Harvey Weinstein of groping her, masturbating in front of her and ejaculating onto a towel in a Beverly Hills hotel bathroom in 2013.
Testifying on Wednesday afternoon in the disgraced mogul’s Manhattan criminal trial, Young appeared on the stand as the prosecution’s final “prior bad acts” witness. The model and then-aspiring actress said she had been invited by a friend of Weinstein’s — model Claudia Salinas — to meet up with the producer at the Montage Beverly Hills under the guise of discussing a script Young was working on at the time.
“I was excited to network and pitch my ideas,” Young, now 30 years old, said. “I put on my best dress.”
Eventually, after the group of three had a conversation at the hotel bar, Young said Weinstein told them he needed to bring the conversation up to his room because he had to get...
