Ibuprofen is an NSAID that reduces pain, inflammation and fever by suppressing Cyclooxygenase, COX, enzymes and hence prostaglandins. This is beneficial for reducing prostaglandin induced inflammation but it can also result in vasoconstriction in the kidneys and reduced mucus production which protects the stomach lining from acid.—David Foss
