The first episode of Abbott Elementary season 4 is titled "Back to School," and the staff are definitely going to have their hands full based on the trailer! As always, the school is very underfunded, and the hilarious trailer starts with Melissa and Barbara asking Principal Ava for books and paper towels for their classrooms. You know, basic necessities. But we know these poor guys have to work with what they've got. And of course Ava has a sarcastic response in return.
Jacob seems to have another mystery enemy other than Mr. Morton, the class pets may not be as great as they sound (the teachers asked for money for after school programs and got this instead), there's a visit from Hr, and ringworm is going around. A lockdown might be in store based on the video with Ava all suited up.
But we know this group of educators is going...

While we await word on which actors will step into the co-lead roles of John Stewart and Hal Jordan in HBO's upcoming Lanterns series, we may know who has been enlisted to direct some of the episodes.
Stephen Williams is believed to be in talks to direct the pilot, but according to Daniel Richtman, Lucy Tcherniak is also in negotiations to helm an undisclosed number of episodes.
Tcherniak has previously directed Sunny (2024), Station Eleven (2021) and The End of the F***ing World (2017).
Josh Brolin was reportedly offered the Jordan role, but we recently learned that he had passed. Follow-up reports claimed that Ewan McGregor, Matthew McConaughey, and Chris Pine were also in contention, with Pine expected to get the offer if Brolin declined.
We don't know if Pine is next in line or not, but the trades believe that McConaughey is definitely not in the mix.

Despite being the It's Always Sunny star and producer with the Emmys, the personal production company and the high-profile bromance with Deadpool, Rob McElhenney isn’t going to disagree with anyone who thinks that his co-conspirators Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton are the top talents of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia team.
And here we thought no one needed a wild card.
When McElhenney, Day and Howerton first shot the pilot for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, they budgeted $100 for the entire project and used a digital camera that Howerton had bought with the money he made starring in the universally panned and short-lived That ‘70s Show spin-off That ‘80s Show. At the time, McElhenney envisioned the project as a way for the three friends to secure steady acting gigs without attending endless, soul-crushing auditions, and it’s doubtful that any of them expected the potential show about...

It took 13 puppeteers to bring AppleTV+’s titular robot “Sunny” to life.
Joanna Sotomura, the American performer who embodies the ominously helpful bot, flew to Tokyo where the series was filmed to meet the robotics team two weeks before filming began. “We had our robot dojo space. I would do the rehearsals and scenes as Joanna, and they would put tape on my stomach for Sunny’s eye line, and I’d be rigged in a helmet with a ring light. A monitor and camera tacked my facial expressions and projected to the robot in real-time,” says Sotomura.
“Sunny” follows Rashida Jones as Suzie Sakamoto, an American housewife living in Kyoto. The buddy mystery pairs Suzie with the title character, an intelligent “homebot” named Sunny that has been left to Suzie by her missing husband, Masa (Hidetoshi Nishijima).

As MLB Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs fights prostate cancer, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fandom has united in agreement that we’re all going to retire that one line until he beats it.
Boggs, 66, is a former 12-time All-Star, five-time batting champion and a World Series winner, but since he never played in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform, his primary impact on the City of Brotherly Love is his contribution to the field of mile-high partying — on a cross-country flight from Boston to Los Angeles while playing for the Boston Red Sox, Boggs famously drank an absurd number of beers in a plane ride that became the stuff of baseball legend while inspiring one of the most quotable It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episodes of all time.

[The story contains mild spoilers from the season finale of Sunny.]
In less than five years of its existence, Apple TV+ has carved a niche out for itself as a home to evocative, well-made and interesting science fiction, and the streamer has delivered once more with Sunny, the dark Japan-set retrofuturist comedy that wrapped its first season this week.
Starring Rashida Jones, Sunny tells the story of Suzie Sakamoto, a taciturn American woman living in Kyoto, whose life is upended by tragedy after her husband Masahiko (Hidetoshi Nishijima) and son Zen (Fares Belkheir) disappear in a mysterious plane crash. Poleaxed by grief, Masahiko’s company sends Suzie a domestic robot named Sunny, with artificial intelligence attuned to her particular needs and feelings. As Suzie, reluctantly, begins to bond with Sunny, and eccentric new friend Mixxy (annie the clumsy), the great enigma surrounding the plane crash begins to unravel involving the yakuza and domestic Japanese politics.

It just goes to show you that you should never sleep on a series as fun as The Ark, regardless of airborne tranquilizers.
That was a fun episode, but we at TV Fanatic call it as we see it, and what we saw here was a “Die Hard” in space. Air vents be damned.
The Ark Season 2 Episode 8 continues the show’s trend of trying out new story ideas and circumstances.
(Aleksandar Letic/Ark TV Holdings, Inc./Syfy)
At this point in the season, it’s fair to say that many of the risks the showrunners, writers, and producers took have worked out.
Now that we have a clearer picture of the plot’s direction, let’s hope that The Ark doesn’t lose its way or momentum toward the big, climactic ending.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the entire first season of “Sunny,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
As a Japanese actor, Hidetoshi Nishijima often receives offers to play morally gray characters, such as samurais and yakuza members, who are defined by a particular profession and era. But then he was approached for the role of a roboticist whose mysterious disappearance leaves his wife (and the clever robotic companion he designed for her) at the center of a criminal conspiracy in “Sunny,” Apple TV+’s darkly comedic, sci-fi thriller that just wrapped up its first season. Nishijima — who starred in “Drive My Car,” the 2021 Japanese film that was nominated for best picture, and won the Academy Award for international feature — relished the opportunity to play an ordinary man who must wrestle with existential questions about what it means to be human.

The finale of Sunny on Apple TV+ is now streaming, and it certainly delivered! I think it was a great finale and there were many plot points resolved that was exciting as a viewer who's been following this story along for the last 10 episodes. The natural question on our minds now is whether the series has been renewed.
At the time of this writing, Apple TV+ has not renewed or canceled Sunny starring Rashida Jones. This is nothing to worry about just yet though. While some shows get early renewals before a finale is even out, most of the time it takes at least a few weeks, if not months, to get a renewal.
I really hope that Sunny season 2 does happen because I think it's needed. And here's why! Spoilers Below.

If you’re like me, you’re probably asking yourself if you’ve lost every bit of your sanity or just watched Sunny Season 1 Episode 10.
That was an exciting ending, to say the least, and the least was what was said since there are still unanswered questions!
Listen, don’t get me wrong. Sunny is a fantastic series with phenomenal acting and brilliant storytelling.
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
Still, I am just like every other viewer in that I need resolution!
Two questions could’ve been answered easily and briefly, but I guess that was just too hard for the writers.
Is Masa alive? What was his relationship with Hime? That’s it! That’s all I needed to know!
All in all, Sunny was a crazy, wild ride that I would happily go on over and over again.

David Cartwright may be suffering from the effects of early dementia, but the old spy’s still got it.
It didn’t seem that way at first on Slow Horses Season 4 Episode 1 when he grabbed his shotgun to confront the “stranger” drawing him a bath upstairs.
And since I have not read any of Mark Herron’s Slough House novels, I really did think David did the unthinkable.
(Apple TV+)
He was paranoid while walking up the drive to his home.
He greeted River when he opened the door, even though we didn’t see River’s face.
And Louise did tell River to visit his grandfather.
So it all fell in line perfectly and was a perfect setup for the audience.
Even when David looked at the photo of River, it seemed to be part of his early dementia setting in once again.

In the immortal words of the great Michael Bolton, how can we be lovers if we can’t be friends? How can we start over when the fighting on Tell Me Lies never ends?
After an intense and riveting first season, the Hulu series is back with more drama, intrigue, and secrets. With a solid seventy-three percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this show was clearly missed.
Tell Me Lies is a series at the forefront of what has become the “evolved human experience” in teen and young adult programming.
(Josh Stringer/Disney)
Yes, that means way more sex, but it also means more raw and vulnerable moments with characters that are forced to grow and change due to life.
It also doesn’t hurt that everyone on the series is hot enough to be on a CW show.

Well, that was another riveting episode of “the only point of this title is to connect to the source material,” wasn’t it?
In all seriousness, the monkey is getting further away from being relevant.
However, it is worth noting that the primate who plays Driggs is quite the acting talent.
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
Still, that’s no excuse for calling a show Bad Monkey when the titular character is only ever around to eat grapes and display how easily he can be picked up.
Then again, the absurdity of the show’s title matches the chill and casual vibes of the series.
But as fun as Bad Monkey is, that doesn’t excuse its somewhat uneven storytelling.
After A Chaotic Start, Bad Monkey Is Shaping Into A Story With Substance And Stamina.
Some shows can have a million different plates spinning in the air without any risk of falling.

Apple TV+’s Sunny is one of the best shows on the platform. In fact, it’s one of the best shows out there right now, and it’s sad to see there isn’t much buzz about it. The show tells the story of Suzie, an ordinary American woman trying to find respite in Japan. There, she meets a man named Masa, who makes her realize that the hermit life isn’t exactly what she needs. Instead, they end up getting married and living together in Japan for 10 years, until one day Masa and their young son Zen end up missing after a plane crash. The show is a detailed and intricately woven story that brings in mystery and dark satire about AI, which is sure to be the next big thing in the industry. The show being set in Japan adds an extra flair to it, and the...

Not going to lie, I’m a little bit sad that Sunny is already over. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to watching every week. The show follows Suzie, a woman who learns that her husband and son have disappeared after a plane crash. This leads to many discoveries about said husband, making Suzie feel like she never knew him at all. But there’s more; the Japanese Yakuza are involved in this whole mess, and Suzie needs to figure out if her husband and son are still around or if they’re actually gone. Sunny episode 10 is the most colorful this season. Also yes, in typical season-finale fashion, there are a couple of massive reveals in this episode. So, without further ado, let’s go!
Spoiler Alert
How Do Suzie And The Gang Get Out?
Episode 10 begins with the Japanese festival of “Setsubun” to celebrate the onset of the spring season.

Will Fire Country Season 3 continue burning out until it’s just a pile of ashes? Or will it blaze into a heated inferno that continues to ignite for seasons to come?
A scene from the Fire Country episode entitled Too Many Unknowns (Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)
With a great first season and a weaker second season amid writers’ strikes and filming delays, fans are optimistic that a blazing-hot third season will rekindle our Fire Country passion.
We were halfway through Fire Country Season 2 when we got confirmation of a third season.
And a series spinoff. Thank the film Gods because the season finale ended with things pretty messed up.
So now that we know we...

It’s been one long, wacky, winding road of misadventure, danger, and some not-so-Sunny exchanges between friends.
However, the series is working toward a finale of epic proportions.
At the very least, it’ll be one full of answers to these never-ending questions!
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
As fans of Sunny have likely come to realize, the show is not one for spoiling any twists before we’ve reached them.
No matter how infuriating it is.
After Sunny’s Season 1 Episode 9, viewers have many questions, not just about what’s been going on but also about what’s going to happen now with everyone’s favorite violent Home Bot.

True artificial intelligence might still be years or even decades away, but Apple TV+’s new series “Sunny,” starring Rashida Jones, offers an interesting glimpse into a near future where home robots are more than just stationary speakers answering basic questions. I initially started watching the show for the futuristic fun of it, but the dramedy quickly evolved into something far more thought-provoking than I had initially anticipated. “Sunny” shifted my outlook from apprehension about AI’s potential dangers to a more hopeful vision of the technology as a companion rather than a threat.

Tiffany Wallace’s exit is further proof that the entire FBI franchise has more turnover than a fast food joint, and if that’s not vexing enough, the situation has only highlighted the show’s character problem.
As FBI Season 7 draws near, viewers face another casting shift with the departure of Katherine Renee Kane, who will likely sign off in the season premiere.

That was fast! Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 9-02-24 promise someone will return who left only a month ago.

Still, Days of Our Lives needs to close its revolving door, especially if people are going to have emotional farewells only weeks before they return to our screens.

Someone really should have told Edith that when The Serpent Queen strikes, she goes for the jugular.

Suzie (Rashida Jones) has no friends in Kyoto. When we meet her in the first moments of Apple TV+’s “Sunny,” her husband and son are missing and presumed dead when their airplane crashes; she has a testy relationship with her mother-in-law, and because of her dyslexia, she still hasn’t learned Japanese. There’s barely a reason to exit her fugue state until the delivery of an at-home assistant: the aptly named Sunny.
Designed by her husband, Sunny is at first a burden, then a sympathetic ear, and then, miraculously, a friend. But none of “Sunny” would work if we don’t buy the very real relationship that springs up between a human woman and a robot. And certainly Episode 9, which takes place solely in Sunny’s “mind” as she has an existential crisis and debates whether or not she deserves to be taken offline permanently, wouldn’t be...

After a ridiculously successful first season, fans of Elsbeth are ready for the police procedural to return with more murder mayhem and hijinks.
With a Rotten Tomatoes score of ninety-four percent, the review aggregator’s consensus on the show is that “Carrie Preston’s standout character from The Good Wife makes for a great detective in this amiable and clever spinoff.”
The series has proven that The Good Wife universe has plenty of room to expand into more shows and genres. Elsbeth starkly contrasted the heavy intensity of The Good Wife and The Good Fight.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
It has a fun and lighter tone than its sister shows, but that doesn’t mean the creators aren’t above dropping an easter egg or two.
In fact, all of the episodic murderers for Season 1 were actors who had previously portrayed different characters in either The Good Wife or The Good Fight.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer on The Ark Season 2 Episode 7 because everyone’s skeletons are coming out of the closets.
If there is one thing you can count on when you keep people in close quarters for an extended period, there will be drama.
The creative team behind The Ark is starting to once again utilize the premise of “a snake in the hen house.”
(Aleksandar Letic/Ark TV Holdings, Inc./Syfy)
It’s the strongest arc to take on and will yield the most character growth and plot progression for the story.
Since its start, Season 2 has seen one external issue or problem after another. It is refreshing to see more internal struggles rather than another space catastrophe.
The Ark can only pull at that thread so many times before the premise becomes stale and boring.

Apple TV+ really is an underrated streamer. I feel like the platform has a lot to offer, but sometimes it's difficult to compete with the bigger companies like Netflix and Max. They kind of dominate the playing field. But, that doesn't mean you're not going to find great content on Apple TV+ like Shrinking.
And that's why you're here, right? You've watched the comedy-drama, liked it, and now would like something else to fill your time as we await Shrinking season 2. Well, it won't be long now! The second season premieres Oct. 16. But, it is still a while which means you have plenty of time to start watching something new! Here's 5 good Apple TV+ shows like Shrinking to check out now.

It would be just like the creative team behind Sunny to use a question as the title of an episode. Lord knows the series has been nothing but one question after another.
While the endless inquiries have been aggravating, they have also been one of the series’ biggest draws.
Many science fiction shows will worry about losing audiences if they don’t spoon-feed viewers exposition. That’s certainly not the case with Sunny.
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
The show wisely utilized so many secrets because now that we are approaching the end, all of the other shoes can drop.
It’s been a wild, wacky adventure, but this ride is ending. Sunny is finally answering some big questions as a parting gift.
And they are doing it with all the camp and comedy that an A24 series can deliver.

It’s all about Eve on the latest episode of Miami Vice, I mean Bad Monkey.
An excellent storytelling tool is when a series, film, or whatever pokes fun at its plot.
It’s an effective way to relate to the audience and turn a lackluster part into something better than it previously was.
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
The main thing to remember, though, is that the viewers should be aware of the poking, whereas with Bad Monkey, it isn’t clear if the show takes itself seriously or not.
For a series that feels like nothing is ever really happening, the writers have managed to create a thrilling and funny series that strolls through the plot like a morning walk down the beach.

Just last week I said Pachinko was the best new thing on AppleTV+; don’t come at me because I haven’t seen Presumed Innocent, but I think Bad Monkey is a close second there; it simply depends on what kind of TV you truly enjoy. Personally, I love both, as well as the Japanese sci-fi, Sunny, so if you were wondering what to do with that subscription, now’s the perfect time to put it to use. Bad Monkey is a thriller about a police officer who is kicked down to health inspector status after making a rather bold decision to send a man rolling into the sea in his golf cart. The adaptation is hilarious and delivers both comedy as well as thrill. In episode 4, we get a full breakdown of exactly what happened in the timeline that led to the current circumstances. If you were wondering why...

Watching Barbara Sabich in Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent is like watching a punching bag make its way through an infinite circle of BattleBots.
After the release of Presumed Innocent, most of the talk covers the various aspects of Jake Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Rusty Sabich, mainly in a bad light.
It’s easy enough to peg Rusty as the antagonist throughout the series. The guy is just awful in so many ways, from his predilection toward narcissism at every turn to his full-blown embrace of serial infidelity.
(Apple TV+)
“Presumed Innocent” is misleading. Sure, that’s the nexus around which a fair justice system in a free country revolves, but Rusty is anything but.
His actions catalyze everything, bringing me back to Presumed Innocent’s worst, immersion-breaking character: Barbara Sabich.

Now that’s what I’m talking about, Arconiacs! Less fluff, more Mabel, Charles, and Oliver.
Our favorite murder-solving trio returned to their roots on Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 1, both figuratively and literally. And it was a blast!
Believe me, I was expecting the worst.
(Disney/Eric McCandless)
But I was pleasantly surprised that the feel of the Season 4 premiere recalled Only Murders in the Building Season 1.
In Season 1, camaraderie and murder-solving were the priorities for our three sleuths before all the fluff in subsequent seasons got in the way.
Oh, there were plenty of guest stars in this episode, including Meryl Streep, but they took a backseat to the main course, which is exactly where they belong.

For the entirety of Sunny Season 1, there has been question after question, with more introduced in every episode.

Some might have thought that the door closed on Bryan Cranston playing chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-kingpin Walter White after the character's dramatic death in the series finale of "Breaking Bad," but they would be sorely mistaken. Cranston has reprised the role a couple of times since, mostly in projects directly tied to "Breaking Bad" like flashback sequences in sequel "El Camino" and the spin-off series "Better Call Saul," but also in sillier things like some really ridiculous Super Bowl commercials. In a 2023 interview with Awards Radar, Cranston shared that he has one major condition for ever playing Walter White again, though it's one that clearly has been met a few times already.
Though Cranston's most recent take on White was really just an amped up version of himself channeling ole' Heisenberg on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," he's not entirely opposed to bringing the character back in full under the right circumstances. That's...

Coming from a beloved cult classic, the odds were stacked against this incredible series.

Sure, Yasmin and all her “It” factor glory seems to be the ultimate focus of the season, but Industry Season 3 Episode 3 should’ve been named Leviathan.
Harper is a perpetrator of chaos, and she gleefully got her way during an hour of wheeling and dealing at a climate panel that was as testy as the weather itself.
Goodness Industry’s characters are truly and utterly fucked.
(Simon Ridgway/HBO) Ken Leung, The Man That You Are…
Yes, there were many plot points that jumped off during Industry Season 3 Episode 3, but they converged remarkably well at a climate panel.
But Ken Leung‘s performance stood out the most, and it was most compelling to watch Eric grapple with his position at Pierpoint, in life, and that long-awaited reunion with his mentee/pseudo-daughter spawn from hell.

Have we become allergic to or intolerant of romance outside of its own genre? Why are movies kissing romance goodbye?
I assumed that, in a Post-Pandemic world, we’d be more open or acceptant of romantic dynamics and physical touch in media, not aggressively averse.
The lockdown touch starvation was a real thing.
(Laura Radford/Netflix) The Aversion Toward Romance Has Gotten Out of Hand
Whether that was quickly forgotten or Gen Z‘s extreme shift toward prudishness regarding physical affection in media, it feels like media is swinging that pendulum too far toward romance aversion.
I get it to a degree; there was nothing more annoying than watching a series that force-fed us unnecessary nudity and unearned sex scenes that did zilch to further the plot.

This is it — the end. And yes, Evil Season 4 Episode 14 was aptly titled “Fear of the End.”
For this last hurrah (although we’re still keeping our fingers crossed for a Hail Mary because it’s never been more appropriate), we’ll combine the recap and review for a real sense of closure. Who am I kidding? There is no closure here.
But let’s carry on!
(Alyssa Longchamp/Paramount+) Evil Season 4 Episode 14 Review: Fear of the End
By now, we’re all familiar with the joke: A priest, a scientist, and a psychologist walk into a bar… Imagine if every story could be built on such a simple yet rich premise.
The Evil Series finale (shut my mouth!) was bigger on deep meaning than wrapping up outstanding storylines, and if we want to keep hope alive for rescue, that’s a very good thing.
All of the remaining players had a bit,...

Home is where The Ark is, and there is no place like home! At least, not one where you might run into your clone from time to time.
Certain staples are almost impossible to avoid when you’re creating science fiction. One of those is that there must be some sci-fi creature.
There are many ways to do that, but The Ark has settled on an ingenious one that works perfectly with the show’s themes and focal points.
(Aleksandar Letic/Ark TV Holdings, Inc./Syfy)
You can’t go wrong with clones.
Whether it’s a long-lost twin or a genetic experiment, bringing in alternate characters for a single actor is an easy and effective way to refresh any story.

Everyone knows Apple TV+ for Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Severance. There have been a few other popular TV shows sprinkled in over the last few years. Presumed Innocent starring Jake Gyllenhaal had some good buzz recently. Despite Apple TV+’s substantial investment into the TV business, it’s still looking for mainstream hits.
And, let me be clear. I am a fan of Apple TV+. I appreciate how many TV shows with huge stars the streamer is cranking out these days, but it’s just so odd that almost no one is talking about these great shows!
I put together a list of the four most underrated shows on Apple TV+ that you need to watch right now!

No, you’re not on acid or tripping hard on shrooms! Blame the break in reality on the latest episode of Sunny!
For whatever reason, I had convinced myself things couldn’t possibly get weirder on this fantastic series. I was oh so wrong in so many ways.
If there is one thing fans of the show have realized, it is that you should always expect the unexpected regarding Sunny.
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
This series has weaved a well-balanced plot involving pure camp humor with thrilling moments of suspense and danger.
And while it’s been playing with the patience of its viewers, we finally have some answers!
Thank God, because Sunny has been exhausting in the best possible way.
