Dive Deeper Into "American Gods"

The cast of "American Gods" chat with Kevin Smith on IMDb LIVE at NY Comic Con about the show's success and how the series will continue to veer creatively from Neil Gaiman's source material. Plus, learn more about the early career of Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday).

Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she's been killed in a terrible accident. Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, he is greeted by a strange man in the seat next to him. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible. He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same. Did You Know?

Season 1 originally had 10 episodes, but after seeing the cuts for episodes 3 and 4, the producers decided to merge them into one single episode and then use the cliffhanger for the second to last episode as the season finale, then using parts of the original season finale through the whole season. Hence making the season 8 episodes long. See more »

Mr. Wednesday's Missouri license plate starts with the number 3. In Missouri, only trucks have license plates that start with a number. His 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham would start with a letter, or better yet would be eligible for Missouri historic vehicle plates. See more »

Too much

I love the book. That's where I come from.

This series tries so hard to be better than its source material. It tries and it fails.

Art is about emotions. Any good artist will avoid emotions. This is the paradox American Gods does not understand.

Summary: Read the book.
