The 80's…

…an era where slashers sliced and diced their way to the top of the horror scene…

…these days are long gone.

The first fifteen years of the 2000's featured more ghosts and demonic possessions than they did unstoppable monsters or folks who have the ability to wield kitchen knifes better than the top chefs in the world. Sure, we have witnessed the birth of Mick Taylor and the Wolf Creek franchise. Yeah, Saw and Jigsaw have made a huge impact in the horror game. Fair enough that Victor Crowley from Hatchet, Chromeskull from Laid to Rest, and Leslie Vernon from Behind The Mask have also made considerable impacts on horror fans. However, if you mention any of these names to a casual movie-goer who does not know a single thing about horror, I bet you only Jigsaw can possibly ring a bell. They aren't nearly as popular as good old Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Chucky, or Jason Voorhees. It is the demons of Paranormal Activity or the titles with the devil in them that sell tickets these days. I'm at the point where I'm tired of demons. It is a new year and 2015 offers a new slasher flick in the form of Desecrated. Is this our chance to relive the glory days once again?

The plot is simple enough. Haylie Duff plays a wealthy girl named Allie McClean. She takes her friends up to her isolated ranch house for a fun weekend of the usual stuff. The usual stuff isn't as fun as usual due to a grumpy caretaker who doesn't usually like visitors. Unless they are dead. He sure seems to have fun killing his visitors. We should be able to have fun watching him kill his visitors, right? I don't think I did. Everything about Desecrated is done in the most bland way possible. The characters? Bland. The only character who is not bland is an obnoxious prick. Nothing more. His girlfriend is a pretty lady with an accent. Nothing more. Allie is a nice girl who plays the lead. Nothing more. Her boyfriend is the guy who takes charge. Nothing more. The remaining girl thinks the caretaker is good-looking. She wants to bang him. Nothing more. The final dude is kind of a wimp. He is Paul James from Greek and I know for a fact that he is quite good as an actor. This performance does not do him any good though. They are all incredibly dumb to the point where they are challenging to sympathize with. The killer himself is the most interesting character in the movie. Gonzalo Menendez does not come close to Christian Bale in American Psycho and falls short of Wolf Creek's Mick Taylor, but his psychopath military man is entertaining enough. With that said, I doubt he will be capable of haunting anyone's nightmares once the film comes to an end.

This isn't a big-budget film. I don't feel like ripping apart the filmmakers on how everything looks and sounds. It isn't impressive. I'll leave it at that. This is a cliché-ridden film with twists that don't really seem needed once everything is all said and done. I wasn't entertained the slightest bit by anything that occurs throughout this film. Mick Taylor is still the most entertaining slasher of the 2000's in my opinion.

The trailer, the tire, what's next?
nogodnomasters25 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with three guys hunted and killed in the woods by a large man in a gas mask. Next Haylie Duff is introduced as what would be "the final girl" for another cabin-in-the-wooods type of film. There is only one suspect for the killer and they don't keep it a mystery. They let you know on the back of the DVD cover.

Boring people with boring dialogue. The kill scenes are camera shy.

Guide: F-word, implied sex, implied rape. No nudity

I desecrated almost 90 minutes of my life watching this
chrismackey197210 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So many clichés were at work in this. Clichés are not a bad thing, nor is an unoriginal storyline IF it's all executed well. In the case of this movie, it was not. There was the 'nobody knows we're at this place' cliché. The 'college kids are stupid' cliché. The 'military guy is nuts' cliché. The 'let's break into this place, even though there's a big frickin' lock keeping us out' cliché. The 'Daddy comes to save the day, but he actually had my mom killed' cliché. 'All the kids are killed except for the lead' cliché. Heck, I wish Ben killed some of the clichés in between killing the kids. Speaking of Ben (Gonzalo Menendez), he was the only character with any sort of development. All joking aside, Gonzalo Menendez did a good job pulling off that character. In this movie, he was the best actor - easily. I was on his side. Please kill these annoying imbeciles. Eduardo was the MOST irritating. He was a beta acting like an alpha.

I gave this movie a 2-star rating on the strength of Menendez's acting. Unfortunately, the others inability to act caused me to subtract stars.

Boring and Cliche
Dragalge6919 June 2018
Nothing worthwhile happen in the movie. It's the basic slasher movie, bunch of teenagers go to a cabin in the middle of nowhere, the caretaker went crazy is start to killing them.

Generally, movies like this try to make the movie a little more interesting appelling with sex, violence or comedy, but this one don't even do that. Take even so much time to the killing happen...and it's not that interesting.

Nothing much to talk about the rest. The characters are stupid and the dialog is awful like any other slasher movie.

Boring and Pretty Bad.
kikikaylao13 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
These "teenagers" in the movie are very stuck up, boring, and crude. Super boring, no interesting dialogue, and no reason to keep looking for things that aren't there.. Haylie Duff is not made for horror movies, she obviously needed money BAD when they put her in this film. Sad. This movie hardly has a purpose or a storyline, and its worthless. Hardly any killing, and almost an hour into the movie. the characters are still there and nobody is killed yet. It seems more like a college project for a grade rather than a real movie that was released. Horrible.. don't waste your time. This is coming from someone who is a horror movie fanatic who knows good movies from bad ones and this stinks.

Really boring and unbelievable
sarah-haverty15 March 2015
I can forgive low-budget films if the storyline is halfway decent. This is not one of those films; the dialogue is poorly written and horribly executed. The characters are snoopy and not very good at hiding it; each are altogether unlikeable, either having no personality or abrasive, and crude. I didn't think the antagonist was believable. I began to hope they would be killed, especially since they have no survival skills whatsoever, not even basic ones... I don't like that about slasher films in general. Honestly, of horror movies, I prefer ghost, demonic possession, or zombie movies. Zombie movies at least usually have a mix of characters with some that have some survival skills. A good Zombie movie I saw recently was Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, a good film, not perfect, but enjoyable. This slasher film simply wasn't worth making. I wish I could give this film a 0/10.

Could Have Been Decent, Ended Up Being Pretty Bad
HorrorOverEverything6 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The trailer intrigued me, looked like this could be a fun slasher flick with an almost likable killer. However they attempted a something a little different, which I can respect, but it just didn't work at all.

The opening scene was actually pretty good, starts off quick and pretty gruesomely. Then we are introduced to our main characters, perhaps one of the most annoying and crappy group of college kids I have seen in a horror movie recently. This was a good thing though, because I was very stoked to see these idiots get taken out. But for some reason the creators of the film thought it would be a good idea to draw that out with horrible dialogue and a back story that you won't care about.

Once things do get going (which is about the last 20 minutes), things still manage to be pretty lame. The kill scenes are fairly tame, the killer is uninteresting, and I felt like there was no one on screen I was rooting for.

If they would have just embraced the fact that this was a slasher movie and focus more on that rather than trying to be different this would have been OK. But they tried a little too hard and that just didn't pay off for them at all.

Worst movie I seen in years
draftdubya19 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I never rooted for the killer like I did in this movie. I would've have loved if he made these idiots suffer more. Duff can't act her way out of a wet 1 ply wet piece of tissue. The coward black guy just became annoying and it just felt good seeing him get shot. Slut #2 was a good head shot kill. Ben should've got some kind of award for killing off these pricks.

Not great but not completely horrible...
trulyblessed-9930821 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So, it's not the worst movie in the world but it would be much better if the murderer was a better actor. He was a little too obvious & over enthusiastic! He did not have to make it so obvious that he was the killer. A little mystery goes a long way. There were creepy parts in the beginning that made me look passed the not so great acting skills & allowed me to continue to tolerate watching more...but the further into the movie I got, the more fake it felt. I like to find movies I haven't watched before & give all horror movies a fair shot. I have seen much worse but it definitely had the potential to be much better!! The timing was off in many parts in the 2nd half, which messed with the whole atmosphere! I am not going to pick apart the whole movie & detail every bad moment. It had its good moments too but I really feel the murderer was over acting & threw it off. Haylie Duff was pretty good & some of the friends' acting was okay... I was not expecting it to be great so I am not disappointed & in that sense it was actually better than I thought. If you are expecting an amazing movie, it's not going to happen but if you just want a decent movie to pass the time.. it works. At least it's not like the last 3 movies I attempted watching, in which the horror was in the acting vs the actual plot of the movie! :)

Not a very good movie. Low-budget movie with low budget acting and a storyline that makes not much sense. They keep calling each other stupid in the movie well in my opinion they're all a bunch of stupid people for not realizing what is going on and for not calling the police .

Very Odd
Avidvidwiewer9 December 2015
I have to say that I really couldn't make a lot out of the storyline if there was one - it seemed a bit like let's make it all up as we go along type of movie poorly produced and directed - I really like Haylie Duff and as an actress I think that she stood head and shoulders above the other clowns - what the heck was the storyline - It had me beat and I love movies and watch them a lot of the time - Haylie steer clear from this nonsense - you are a very good actress IMHO and you deserve better roles than this - what was the bad guy all about - I like the thriller/horror genre but hey it just didn't seem to make a blind bit of sense - Haylie if you read this I'm really suggesting that you stay away from this type of stuff and work in the areas of character that you are very good at - romance and heart rending stuff are your forte as far as I have seen and you do it very well - or if you do horror/thriller stuff get a good script and a good production team - just my thoughts - I don't wish to be controversial or unpleasant

Terror at a cabin-in-the-woods in the sticks northwest of Los Angeles
Wuchakk18 April 2024
Six college youths from SoCal sneak away to the vacation home of the lead girl (Haylie Duff) for some fun in the wilderness, but the fatigues-wearing caretaker is kind of creepy and two of them foolishly break into a hallowed trailer hidden in the forest. Havoc ensues.

"Desecrated" (2015) isn't exactly great cinema, but it delivers the goods for those in the mood for backwoods brutality and don't mind low-budget issues. Despite some expected cliches, the antagonist isn't the same-old-same-old and the characters are effectively fleshed-out in a story that's a little more intricate than the set-up suggests. It's superior to Haylie's "Backwoods" from seven years prior.

Speaking of Haylie, she does well as the protagonist supported by Heather Sossaman and Vera Rosada as the almost interchangeable brunettes Lizzie and Nina. The latter is stunning in a bikini, but don't expect nudity.

On the masculine front, Gonzalo Menendez is both entertaining and convincing as the stereotypical ex-military guy with a shaved head while Wilmer Calderon works well as the "axx clown," Eduardo (he desperately needed humbled but I can't wish upon anyone what happens). Michael Ironside shows up for a small part as Allie's father.

The movie runs 1 hour, 22 minutes, and was shot in Ojai, which is located in the desert high country 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles, as well as Playa del Rey & Marina del Rey, which are on the coast, just west of the city.

Biggest Joke For 2015
garyrob200812 March 2015
In all actuality this "movie" was ready for release in 2012 then scheduled to be released in 2013 but I'm assuming that didn't happen because it was just THAT bad. If there were negative numbers on the voting scale it would have received a -3. So ultimately they got lucky because I HAD to rate it with a +1.

The premise for the movie wasn't the problem, it was poorly scripted along with a lack of background information regarding ALL the character's. Nothing made sense, nothing tied things together as to why they were happening. There was never any flow to the movie that held my interest. The ONLY reason I watched the whole movie was so that I could write this review and warn others from wasting their time.

Neg 3

Horror Movie With No Horror
jamdifo18 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The first 5 minutes reeled me in thinking that this might be OK. It wasn't. It took a nosedive and kept on diving. So many clichés, moronic characters, and worst of all, an unscary killer.

There was absolutely no horror, suspense, or tension building scenes. The only way to enjoy this movie is in a drunken stupor.

What was up with Timmy? Where did he live? Where was his parents? Timmy heard the bomb and called the police, but yet his parents still let him go up alone? How did Timmy survive all this time? Really, who cares? This movie doesn't deserve anymore attention and I definitely won't see Desecrated 2 (yes, the ending leaves that boring possibility open).

completely rubbish

Warning: Spoilers
if you looking for sexy-gore-thriller movie, you wont get it on this movie.

i was interested on this movie before, considering from trailer. I was thinking this movie can be good as another slasher (or at least sexy) movies like Zombeavers, Wrong Turn. But they're not! I just wasting 1,5 hour of my life for watching this.

the plot wasn't written good. the actor cant act, no interesting sexy scene, no memorable torture scene. Just awful movie you cant imagine before.

and the worst part is: they seems looking for sequel, consdering the ending goes to cliffhanger.

Worst Movie Ever
peterssl25 December 2015
If I could give this movie the rated that I wanted, it would be a negative 100,000. It was so boring it was dreadful watching, like literally, it bored me to tears, I couldn't watch the entire movie, it was so awful. The actors and actress couldn't act, and my three year old son could have done a better job acting and putting this movie together. These people who created this "DUMB MOVIE" need to be banned from making MOVIES forever. I'm going to let RED BOX know that I want my MONEY back, I would like a CREDIT, because this MOVIE SUCKED very BAD.

Please DON'T BUY, or RENT, you would definitely REGRET IT.

If this movie made it to the MOVIES, I am very SURPRISED the People did not start a RIOT, and wanted their money back because this MOVIE ain't worth a PENNY. I wasted minutes of my life watching this DUMB MOVIE. If I was a ACTOR OR ACTRESS in this movie, or if I had produced this MOVIE, I would be too ASHAMED to tell anyone that I was apart of this movie, this is how BAD THIS MOVIE SUCK. So Buyers and Renter's Beware, don't waste your precious time, buying or renting this GARBAGE. Enough said, i'm out.

I 100% agree with another reviewer.
song_of_rainbow9 February 2024
If I could give this movie a 0, I would. I've been watching horror movies since most of the people alive now, were yet to be born. The premise of this movie, in theory was great. The begining seem fine, another slasher movie. I'm okay with them. But the first time the princess opens up her mouth I know I will hate her. Then come her gang of imbeciles, who think they are God's gift to the universe. Immediately, I hate them all. In a normal horror movie there is at least one character you wish makes it out. NOT here. Unless it's the bad guy, which in this case, I will most likely be rooting for, for slaying them all. (No idea if that's the case, I couldn't even make it to the end. If it's the other guy that's not part of the group, good for him.)
