Exclusive: Iconic British driver James Hunt is the subject of a feature doc from Deep Fusion Films.
British production house Deep Fusion has entered into a creative partnership with the James Hunt Estate on the production of Hunt: We Need to Talk About James, a 90-minute film that will offer “an unprecedentedly intimate look at the life and legacy of the man who helped define the glamour and danger of Formula 1, both on and off the track.”
Hunt had a well-publicized reputation as a playboy and adrenaline junkie, and was considered a golden boy of motorsports during his seven-year Formula 1 career, which culminated in him winning the 1976 World Championship in a dramatic final race.
While his personality and attitude made him hugely popular with the public and a familiar face in newspapers, his ‘live fast, die young’ approach was less well received by Formula 1’s establishment, who...

The Xbox brand is in a confusing spot at the moment. With so many Xbox exclusives like Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves moving to PlayStation, there are few titles left that truly market themselves as Microsoft’s exclusive games.
However, there are quite a few titles that are yet to make their way to more platforms. From simulators to story-driven games, these are some of the best Xbox exclusives that should come to PlayStation at some point in the future.
5. Microsoft Flight Simulator Sky’s really not the limit in this one.
There’s a subtle sense of meditation and solace found in all the times you decide to cruise above Earth’s surface, around 32,000 feet high up in the sky. Unless you’re actually a pilot, the closest you’ll come to this experience is in Microsoft Flight Simulator, a game designed to make you feel like you’re flying.

Microsoft later revealed that Sea of Thieves would be one of these titles. Rare’s game, currently one of the most popular on Xbox, will make its PS5 debut later this month.
According to the game’s social media, the closed beta is a complete success, foreshadowing incredible sales for the game. This is the second great pirate game that launched this year on the Sony console; the first one was one of the recent failures of Ubisoft, Skull and Bones.

In Season 14 of Gold Rush, Parker Schnabel saw the need to start strip-mining as the winter closed in, but this week, the gold from a previous project was made into something beautiful. Notably, it seems to indicate that the Discovery Channel star is not down to his last penny. What did he do with the gold? Keep reading to find out more.
Parker Schnabel Had Some Gold That He Kept For Himself
In October last year, Gold Rush fans saw that Tony Beets looked likely to do extremely well with his gold haul. At the same time, the drama focused on how John’s grandson looked likely to lose everything. Most fans believed that he’d have some common sense and some business advice to not risk his last dollar. However, it made for good television. It’s not clear if the end product that was shared recently came from that year of mining,...

Hi-Fi Rush arrived last year as an absolute surprise, and its launch on Game Pass was a cherry on top. Developed by Tango Gameworks, the arcade-esque rhythm game combines multiple popular genres into a stylish beat-em-up experience.
Originally, it was the Xbox/PC exclusive that was showing promise for the console at large, but in 2024, the game is now available on the PlayStation 5, and some are even admitting that the game looks better in terms of visuals.

After the whole debacle that meant Starfield for Bethesda, the studio part of the Microsoft conglomerate is not in the best position possible with the recent games; aside from Hi-Fi Rush, fans are not that excited for any other project. Microsoft has started an initiative that will allow Xbox games to be played on rival platforms like the Nintendo Switch, and Sony’s PlayStation, and among the first batch of titles is Hi-Fi Rush. The game was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks which is now owned by Microsoft, thus making every future project an Xbox exclusive, however, Microsoft isn’t interested in gatekeeping games on either PC or their flagship console anymore.
Games should be played on any platform, regardless of whatever console a player has. Console exclusivity can be a pain in the neck for people who are interested in trying something different, each company offers its unique features like PlayStation’s haptic feedback on the DualSense, Nintendo’s creative joy-cons, and Xbox’s power, but there are just some aspects that could make the experience far more premium like Hi-Fi Rush on the PlayStation...

PlayStation vs. Xbox is a long-running battle in the gaming fraternity. Sometimes the former edges past with its huge exclusive titles, and sometimes the latter touches the line with its exciting Game Pass library. Amidst this battle, fans are in awe that an Xbox first-party title is right now reigning the charts, in the name of Sea of Thieves.
In February, Microsoft announced that many of their first-party titles would be going cross-platform. To begin this journey, four titles were selected; one of them was the open-world pirate ship adventure title from Rare. Scheduled to be available on April 30, 2024, Sea of Thieves currently sits at the top of the list of best-selling pre-orders on the PlayStation Network in the United States. So, is this the beginning of Xbox’s dominance over their archrival’s arena?

Helldivers 2, the co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, has been out for over a month, but the hype around it is still how it was on day one. The game is only available for PlayStation 5 and PC, but Xbox players are begging the developer to launch on the platform.
Although that doesn’t seem to be happening for now, Microsoft’s first-party games releasing on PlayStation make it worth considering that the game could come to the platform. However, regardless of whether Helldivers 2 releases on Microsoft’s platform or not, the previously rumored Starfield might not be coming to PS5.

An unsung master of movie magic, Solon Luigi Colani has worked on some of the biggest Hollywood movies ever shot in Germany and beyond, among them works by Quentin Tarantino, Ron Howard, George Clooney, Denis Villeneuve, Paul W.S. Anderson, Gore Verbinski and the Wachowskis.
His enormous range of practical visual effects have also become regular fixtures in Germany’s domestic film and TV industry, where he has helped filmmakers and showrunners bring their visions to life.
In Matthias Glasner’s current Berlinale Competition screener “Dying,” for example, he created a pneumatic pump, hose system and the necessary chunky liquid for a dramatic scene in which a character falls ill at the Berlin Philharmonic concert hall.

All hell broke loose earlier this month when The Verge broke the story that Xbox was preparing to re-release first-party exclusives on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Among the games rumored to go third-party were last year’s biggest Xbox exclusive, Bethesda’s Starfield, and upcoming big-budget action-adventure title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. There were even rumors that Gears of War, a long-running franchise synonymous with the Xbox brand, would make the jump to the PS5.
This of course sent some in the Xbox community into a panicked frenzy, including a group of Xbox influencers who announced they were quitting the platform altogether and posting pictures of them trading in their Series X. For less dramatic but still concerned fans of the platform, the worry was that by ending the exclusivity of its biggest titles on Xbox consoles, the company was effectively giving up on the Xbox Series...

In the latest Xbox Podcast, Phil Spencer had quite the vision to share. There’s a huge mention of cloud gaming and a major focus on breaking away from the chains of exclusivity. And, in the midst of it all, there’s a clever strategy behind attracting players from all platforms. Playstation included.
The podcast started off with a conversation about exclusive titles coming to other platforms, but slowly found its way into making Xbox a brand that appeals to everyone. By everyone, they mean all platforms that were curious about Xbox. Now, they’ll get to have a taste of it.
According to the plan, Xbox will appeal to everyone The plan is to attract the attention of everyone, everywhere, all at once.
Well, at least, that’s the plan. In the podcast, Phil Spencer focused a lot on cross-progression, cross-platform, and accessibility for everyone who wants to enjoy gaming.

The recent rumors of Xbox taking their exclusives to third party platforms have been the most discussed topic in the gaming community for about a week now, and with the recent official release of the Xbox Podcast, the possibility of a Hi-Fi Rush sequel feels like it’s inevitable.

Releasing a little over a year ago, the game quickly became an Xbox staple, and got incredibly popular for its incredible music-integrated gameplay, engaging story, and gorgeous visuals.

Sza came into these awards with a leading nine nominations including Album of the Year (“Sos”), Record of the Year (“Kill Bill”) and Song of the Year (“Kill Bill”). Following with seven nominations apiece were breakthrough R&b artist Victoria Monet, alternative star Phoebe Bridgers and recording engineer/mixer Serban Ghenea.
Of those, Monet was arguably the biggest surprise, picking up Best New Artist and Record of the Year (“On My Mama”) bids in addition to sweeping the noms in the R&b field. It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 4, during two ceremonies: the afternoon Premiere Ceremony where most of the awards will be handed out, and the prime time telecast on CBS and Paramount+ hosted for the fourth year in a row by Trevor Noah. Our projected winners are highlighted in gold.
Sza enters these awards with the most nominations (nine), followed by R&b breakout Victoria Monet, alternative singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers and engineer/mixer Serban Ghenea with seven apiece. This year’s awards also marked a number of changes and updates. The Recording Academy consolidated its categories into just 11 fields in order to give voters more flexibility as to which categories they participate in.

The explosion of Afrobeats has been one of the biggest stories in the music industry over the past five years, with acts like Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, and Tems becoming global superstars. As Africa’s musical imprint around the world continues to become more prominent, its artists now have a Grammy category all to themselves: Best African Music Performance.
“It makes sense, given that reggae or spoken word have their own categories,” says Gracey Mae, a U.K.-based PR and marketing consultant and Recording Academy member who co-authored the proposal for the award.

The exciting new category of Best Pop Dance Recording at the Grammys will crown its inaugural winner soon, and it’s looking like a tight race. Right now I’m inclined to believe it’ll be Troye Sivan‘s “Rush” to take the award home.

“Rush” seems to be the perfect balance of success and acclaim, unlike the other nominees. For example, many predict Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam” will win, especially considering the acclaim it’s gotten. But it might be at a disadvantage because the song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, unlike a couple of the other nominees, and has only recently crossed 100 million streams.
Inversely, there’s David Guetta, Anne-Marie, and Coi Leray’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” which was pretty big, racking up 369 million streams and peaking in the top 20 on the pop airplay chart.

You would expect fireworks from a racing film based on true events that has Daniel Brühl in the cast, right? Sure, every single film is different, but expecting good things from Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia is understandable enough, with a very compelling story of David triumphing over Goliath and, of course, Brühl’s association with it. Given the actor’s most popular role till date is playing the legendary Austrian F1 driver Niki Lauda in Ron Howard’s Rush, easily one of the greatest racing films ever made.
Sadly though, Brühl is pretty much wasted in Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia, where he bats for the Goliaths by playing Ronald Gumpert, the engineer and manager of the Audi racing team who revolutionized sports car-making by inventing four-wheel-drive vehicles. As big as Gumpert was in real life, his role in this film is pretty much that of a minor supporting character.

Oscar and BAFTA-winning directing duo Tom Berkeley and Ross White, previously featured on Dn with their multi-award-winning short An Irish Goodbye, grace our pages again with another delightfully unconventional dark comedy The Golden West. When embarking on their directorial journey together the pair decided to make three shorts, with each subsequent project growing in ambition both narratively and production wise, while gradually turning up the dial on their dark sensibilities. The Golden West serves up everything you could want from those aims. Set in the unforgiving landscape of the Snowdonia mountains, two sisters, who have fled the horrors of the Irish famine, are struggling to find their fortune in the perhaps lesser-known Welsh gold rush. With standout performances by Irish actors Eileen Walsh and Aoife Duffin, their journey is anything but simple and isn’t helped any by a constant barrage of bickering which only increases in intensity as their situation worsens.

As mentioned in last week’s preview, the month of January is probably going to be a bit quieter with not that many big movies, as theatergoers mainly will be catching up on holiday and Oscar fare. We do have one new wide release this weekend, though. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse and James Wan‘s Atomic Monster had such a huge hit when Universal released their horror film “M3GAN” the first week of January in 2023, that the same team has reunited for this weekend’s new high-concept entry, “Night Swim.”
Starring Wyatt Russell (“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”) and Oscar nominee Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), the film involves a family buying a new suburban home with a swimming pool that seems to have healing properties, but only at first. You have to give the makers of “Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia” credit for their honesty in describing their “inspired by true events” drama. Not only do they offer twice in the closing credits the standard disclaimers about invoking dramatic license and inventing some characters out of whole cloth. To make sure we fully understand how fast and loose they have played with reality, they cap things off thusly: “This film cannot be considered a faithful description of facts.”
Trouble is, the film isn’t a grippingly exciting or even consistently compelling description, either. Mostly, it’s a competent yet uninspired overview of events before and during the globetrotting series of races that comprised the 1983 World Rally Championship, with the primary focus remaining affixed throughout on Cesare Fiorio, the ferociously competitive manager for Italy’s Team Lancia.
That narrative imbalance is not altogether surprising, considering that Firori is played by Riccardo Scamarcio,...

Of course Sza’s Sos was the album I played the most in 2023 — but remember, it came out in December 2022 and I ranked it second on last year’s list of top albums, obviously under Beyoncé’s Renaissance.
Though Sza owned the year, several great albums showed up in 2023. Here are the projects that lived rent free in my home and in my headphones.

Some rather strange reports are circulating around the remake of Road House, ranging from the firing of its producer to using AI to finish it.
Hollywood is, of course a buzzing hive of gossip at the best of times, but a particularly strange couple of morsels emerged from Tinseltown on the 30th November. According to a Variety report, veteran producer Joel Silver has been fired from Amazon, the mega corporation which owns film studio MGM.
Before he was (allegedly) ousted, Silver was working on Road House, a remake of the 1989 action thriller which he’d also produced, as well as Play Dirty, a crime thriller starring Mark Wahlberg. Anonymous sources told Variety that Silver was fired for being “verbally abusive” to a pair of female executives.
Named sources close to Silver, meanwhile – private investigator Anthony Pellicano and attorney Bryan Freedman – refute this story. Pellicano says, “The parting of the ways is amicable.

After hinting earlier this month that a Rush reunion could happen, singer-bassist Geddy Lee opened up about the logistics of touring and writing new music alongside the band’s other surviving member, guitarist Alex Lifeson.
Rush haven’t toured since 2015, and the band essentially ended with the death of drummer Neil Peart in 2020. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Lee spoke at length about the potential of working with Lifeson again, including an inspiring conversation between the two and Paul McCartney. A portrait of longevity himself, The Beatles legend encouraged them to hit the road.
Lee has already said that the tribute shows for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, during which he performed Rush material alongside an all-star band, rejuvenated his urge to play live again. The tribute concerts included gigs at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles (the site of final Rush show in 2015) and Wembley Stadium in London.
