Kevin Costner’s role in the future of Yellowstone is up in the air. As Season 5 Part 2 is slated for a November 2024 premiere, the success of the show largely depends on his performance as John Dutton — the patriarch of the Dutton ranching dynasty.
But there are rumors circulating about tension between Costner and the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, due to disagreements about where the show is headed. The Yellowstone star might not be entirely happy with the progress of the show, which could be a reason for his departure, too.

While Sheridan is known to keep his scripts and thoughts private, Costner is famous for preferring projects where the characters are central. He believes that viewers connect with shows because of the characters and that it’s important for their actions to make sense.

In recent years, Kevin Costner has been seen less on the big screens and more on his television series “Yellowstone,” currently bringing astounding ratings to the Paramount Network. Westerns have been good to Costner at the movies, with his most successful winning him two Oscars as producer and director of “Dances with Wolves” in 1990.
Costner almost had a career that ended before it really started. After very small roles in a number of big films such as Ron Howard’s “Night Shift” and the Jessica Lange vehicle “Frances” Costner then got what could have been a star-making role. However, his role as a suicide victim in flashback scenes for “The Big Chill” was cut by director Lawrence Kasdan. The same director wou would later make it up to Costner by casting him in a showy role in the film “Silverado.”

Thanks to the mega-success of Yellowstone, everyone wants to see Kevin Costner in a cowboy hat! As a Thanksgiving football alternative, SundanceTV is reloading the 2012 shoot-’em-up series Hatfields & McCoys — nominated for 16 Emmys, one of those won by Costner — for back-to-back airings. Here’s a look at the three-parter, taken from the original TV Guide Magazine preview by David Hochman. For Kevin Costner, the beard was probably the toughest part. “It went on one hair at a time, singly laid in,” he says of the old-man whiskers he wears for the epic Hatfields & McCoys. Costner plays Devil Anse Hatfield, patriarch and neighbor-from-hell to Randall McCoy, from ages 30 to 73. “My chin would get poked and prodded for an hour every morning,” says Costner. “I’d play music, I’d talk to people, but it never got any easier.” His forbearance speaks to the passion the actor brings to Hatfields,...

Ed Harris is hoping to contend at the Emmys one last time for the HBO sci-fi series “Westworld,” which signed off last year after four seasons. Based on Michael Crichton‘s 1973 movie of the same name, the show comes from Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan and follows a collection of people indulging themselves at a highly-sophisticated theme park that depicts the wild west and is populated by advanced AI.
The show continued to build on its theme with each season and features some wonderful actors, not least including Harris. Harris plays the Man in Black, a sadistic and brutal man who is determined to find out the secrets of the theme park. In the final seasons, Harris also plays William, who is a host who replaces the original Man in Black. In his viciousness and snarling performance, Harris is clearly having a great time on screen and critics have noted...

Acclaimed actor Bill Paxton left the world way to soon on February 25, 2017 due to a stroke during surgery. His death at the age of 61 was noted on the Oscar ceremony for that year, which was held the next day. Let’s celebrate his great career with a look back at his 15 greatest movies.
As a young boy in Texas, Paxton was in the crowd and can be seen in photographs the day JFK left his hotel to begin the motorcade in which he would eventually be assassinated.
Paxton struggled for nearly 10 years as an actor before he finally got noticed for a small but memorable role in the surprise science fiction hit “The Terminator” in 1984. In addition to launching his career Paxton formed an important working relationship on the film with its director James Cameron. “Truth won’t win the battle… menace will,” tough-as-nails “Yellowstone” patriarch John Dutton utters coldly and indignantly in the lead-up to the devastating conclusion of a rip-roaring first half of the Paramount Network blockbuster’s fifth season. The first eight episodes of the show’s fifth season concluded in January, so fans of TV’s top-rated show are now clamoring for the series’ return. The second half of the season is due later this year, promising even more bloodshed and tears, political in-fighting, back-stabbing, fist-fights and corporate scheming set against the breathtaking backdrop of the unforgiving Montana wilderness.

The White House Plumbers (accidentally) took down the presidency, but can Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux take down their Emmy competition? The “White House Plumbers” stars are both contending in Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actor, but only Harrelson is currently predicted to earn a nomination at the moment, sitting in fourth place, while Theroux is in ninth. If you’re predicting just one of them, you might want to reconsider that because this category is kinder to double noms than you might think.
Since 2000, there have been 10 projects that have fielded a pair of nominees in limited series/TV movie actor. And half of them hailed from HBO, home to “White House Plumbers” as well. This time last year, I was convinced that British actress Kelly Reilly would finally receive her first ever Emmy nomination for playing Beth Dutton on Paramount Network’s blockbuster neo-Western “Yellowstone.” Reilly fits the bill for that kind of television character that comes along every once in a while that hits a nerve with fans, driving viewership and generating deafening social media buzz. I figured that Emmy voters could not possibly deny that Reilly had crafted a character that is so memorable and popular, that they wouldn’t resist giving her a spot in the competitive Best Drama Actress lineup. Fast forward a few months to July 2022, and Reilly shockingly missed out on a nomination. To make matters worse, the TV academy inexplicably snubbed “Yellowstone” across the board, despite its popularity with audiences and critics.

So many great stories in history start out with the key players hating each other — as it is in Netflix and A24’s “Beef,” streaming on Netflix in April. Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) meet via parking lot bump turned action-movie car chase, their lives connecting and their road rage lingering in weeks and months after the incident. In reviewing the series, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said that “’Beef’ does a fine job balancing Amy and Danny’s practical intelligence and impractical passions; their bitterness toward the other driver ebbs and flows as their personal lives better or worsen, and it’s in these moments that the half-hour drama thrives.”

Since her work on “The Dropout” has already brought her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award, Amanda Seyfried only needs a Screen Actors Guild Award in order to complete her major industry TV prize sweep. Based on the fact that no woman who has been nominated for all four awards and won the Emmy first has failed to win the other three, her path to victory is arguably clearer than that of any other 2023 SAG Award contender. If she is successful on this final bid, she will be the 12th woman to win both a lead Emmy and a SAG Award for the same TV movie or miniseries performance.

In the 29-year existence of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, a total of 15 pairs and one trio of cast mates have directly challenged each other for the Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actor prize, with the latest dual nominees being Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser of “Black Bird.” These instances have resulted in eight wins, which is a far higher amount than in any of the other five solo TV categories. Are there any sweeter words in the age of too much TV than “limited series?” It’s a category that guarantees minimal time commitment with maximum return — be it weekly watercooler gossip or a delicious binge. The limited series is the perfect hybrid between a movie and a longer-running TV series, with intricate stories, complex characters, and just the right amount of moving parts. The fact that a series will not return makes the narrative precious and the ending paramount, even if that means leaving things deliberately open-ended. This one-off nature makes them perfect for literary adaptations, epic events, and period pieces.

Kevin Costner has finally gotten his hands on the Best TV Drama Actor Golden Globe he won last month for “Yellowstone.” The Oscar winner couldn’t attend the Jan. 10 ceremony due to flooding near his home in Santa Barbara, Calif., as Regina Hall, who presented his category, memorably explained on stage. In a video posted Monday night on his social media accounts, Costner unboxed the statuette he finally received in the mail while recounting the Globes night he didn’t expect.

When viewers first heard the gravelly voice of Kevin Costner's "Yellowstone" character, John Dutton III, back in 2018, he was talking about how the goal of ranching is to "survive another season." That's the goal of most TV shows, too, and it's one "Yellowstone" has accomplished for five seasons now. In the same way that Dutton and his family own most of Montana (or at least the biggest contiguous ranch in the United States), "Yellowstone" has carved out a massive piece of real estate for itself on TV, becoming the most-watched show of 2022 and siring the equally popular Paramount+ streaming spin-offs "1883" and "1923."
Costner was and is a movie star, however, and by its very nature as an ongoing TV series, "Yellowstone" required him to adjust to a different way of acting. He had previously starred in the History channel miniseries "Hatfields & McCoys," but the finite nature of that project...

A new Golden Globe winner for Best Actor in a Drama Series has been crowned, and it’s “Yellowstone”‘s Kevin Costner.
He beat out “Better Call Saul”‘s Bob Odenkirk, “The Old Man”‘s Jeff Bridges, “Andor”‘s Diego Luna and “Severance”‘s Adam Scott.

Tuesday night on NBC, a record-high number of TV trophies (13) were handed out during the three-hour 2023 Golden Globes ceremony. (See the complete winners list.) TV’s number 1 show is “Yellowstone.” Fans love it. Critics love it. The TV industry loves it. But will the motley crew of international journalists at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association finally catch on to TV’s biggest blockbuster? We’re about to find out, as the HFPA are about to unveil its nominations for the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards on Monday, December 12.
The Paramount Network hit series broke ratings records and shattered hearts last season, as its premiere was watched by a staggering 8.38 million live viewers, becoming cable’s most watched episode of any series since 2018. Season 5 (which premiered last month) built on that success, with the neo-Western captivating 12.1 million live-plus-same-day viewers, a huge uptick on an already high watermark. Numbers like that are almost unheard of these days in a TV landscape that is so fractured by hundreds of choices across a multitude of platforms and networks.

If you’re a fan of “Yellowstone” who can’t get enough of that rugged ranch lifestyle, you’ve come to the right place. There have been many other TV shows through the years that have a similar feel to the Paramount Network hit series, some featuring modern-day cowboys (like “Longmire”) and some taking place in the Old West (like “Deadwood”). “Yellowstone” is such a wild success that it’s already launched one spin-off (“1883”) with two more coming soon (“1923” and “6666”).
Some similar programs have a western feel to them even though they don’t take place near any tumbleweeds: “Sons of Anarchy” utilizes motorcycles instead of horses, “True Detective” focuses on detectives rather than cowboys, and “Succession” replaces farmhouses with skyscrapers. Of note, “Yellowstone” actor Kevin Costner won an Emmy in 2012 for his role in “Hatfields & McCoys,” which told the story of the infamous feuding families of the late 1800s.

Bill Paxton’s widow and children have reached a partial settlement of their wrongful-death lawsuit, with an anesthesiologist medical group agreeing to pay $1 million.
Attorneys for Dr. Moody Makar and General Anesthesia Specialists Partnership filed court papers Wednesday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steven Kleifield seeking approval of the accord between the Paxton family members and the company. Makar works at the firm and was the anesthesiologist during heart surgery Paxton had less than two weeks before his death on February 25, 2017.
According to court documents, General Anesthesia Specialists’ lawyers said the company “denies liability in this matter” but said the settlement deal will “reasonably compensate plaintiffs and avoid exposing defendant to an expensive and time consuming litigation.”
Trial of the remainder of the 2018 lawsuit filed by the actor’s widow, Louise Paxton, and the couple’s children, James and Lydia Paxton, against the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Dr. Ali...

In the 18 years since he made his TV acting debut on the Disney Channel series “Phil of the Future,” Evan Peters has appeared in a recurring or regular capacity on seven more shows, including nine installments of the anthology series “American Horror Story.” Now, he has at last succeeded in capturing the attention of his peers in the Screen Actors Guild with his performance on the HBO limited series “Mare of Easttown,” which just won him an Emmy last September. If he ends up taking home the Best TV Movie/Mini Actor prize, he will be the seventh actor to win it on his first-ever SAG bid and the first since Kevin Costner (“Hatfields & McCoys”) nine years ago.
Peters’s challengers in this contest are Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”), Oscar Isaac (“Scenes from a Marriage”), Michael Keaton (“Dopesick”), and Ewan McGregor (“Halston”). Like Peters, both Bartlett and Isaac are SAG newcomers.
