The best sandbox ever. The most creative game ever.
EVON1TY18 June 2019
I don't know how this idea came from but this game is just awesome. If you look deeply you will se there is the most creative game. I am playing this game not as the big fan of this game and not as a 15 aged child. This game is really amazing. Amazing sound effects, musics, playability, controls. It has its own style of visuals. Don't look at the players of this game. Just play this game. GTA 5 is also playing by kids. But this is not important who playing the game. GTA 5 is the still biggest game ever after six years later. Minecraft is really amazing immersive game. It is evolving with updates and never gets old.

It is most creative thing everything is square it reminds me the pixels. The people talks about everything is square the game is bad. As I sad this is not a bad thing it is the soul of the game.

Specially thanks to Daniel Rosenfeld for SFX and musics.

Not perfect, But one of the best games I have ever played.
alreadyinthechopper23 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The game start you out on a beach, in a near infinite random world, with nothing but your bare hands. From here on, it's your adventure. Do you chop down some trees, make some wooden tools and fortify yourself in a makeshift cave to protect yourself from the monsters that come out after dark? Or do you spend your precious daytime making weapons and armour, to fight the zombies, skeletal archers, spiders and the infamous creeper?

The two main things in minecraft are - you guessed it - Mining and crafting. It has a very staggered (and logical) method to keep you constantly upgrading your gear without feeling grindy. The deeper you dig, the stronger the materials you will find. Starting with wood on the surface, then stone, the iron and finally the elusive diamonds.

These aren't the only materials however. Virtually everything is accounted for, down to an electrical current that can be used to create elaborate traps and mechanisms (and even a working CPU inside the game itself).

Sure the combat leaves something to be desired, and even on hard difficulty you can build impenetrable fortresses, but minecraft is whatever you make it.

The creative will and have revelled in what minecraft offers, whereas those who prefer A to B linear games struggle to stay interested as minecraft forces you to make and set your own goals for the day.

The multi-player aspect of minecraft has its bugs and faults, but for the most part, it is just as much fun as the single player experience but with the added bonus of a friend (or as many as your server will hold) to help you along or hinder you.

Even if, by some miracle, minecraft doesn't have what you want in it, look to the modding community. Everything from new enemies, working villages (with NPCs and a trading system) airships, and an infinite number of things can be added (for free as well).

Final thoughts: Not for everyone, but if you like it, you will never forget it. Graphics: 9/10 (Blocks become astoundingly beautiful) Gameplay 10/10 Sound 9/10 Fun: 10/10 Replayability 10/10

Overall 9.5/10

The most amazing sandbox game ever has arrived
judewoods18 February 2014
Wow, where to begin. Minecraft is possibly one of the best video games I have ever played, it challenges you to build, craft and fight after you become stranded on an almost infinite terrain named by you. Using whatever you can find (trees, stone, dirt) you have to build a shelter to defend yourself against the dangers of the night (like skeletons, zombies, spiders and Creepers). Of course, if you're a first time player, your first house will probably be a little hut made of dirt, for some players, who devote their lives to this game, it will be a massive sprawling mansion with a swimming pool and an en-suite bathroom. Anyone can make that, because when morning arises, you have about 7 minutes(real time) to gather supplies or add to your house. The crafting interface is that of genius, using a 4 by 4 table, you arrange items to craft swords, axes or different blocks. The game is simply amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves sandbox games, be because if you are one of those people, this will be the best video game you ever play. 10/10

The best game ever!

Minecraft is the most fun, enjoyable, and nostalgic video game ever. The best thing about it is the objectives are up to you. This game has made several famous gaming YouTubers we know today like Dream, Preston, Jelly, Skeppy, BadBoyHalo, Bionic, Unspeakable, and many more!

I STILL love to play this game although its been 6 years since I started. This is a game for kids, sure, but adults will love it as well.

You start with nothing, punch a tree to get wood, and climb from there. And make sure you build a shelter before nightfall; all sorts of nasty enemies will want to kill you if you don't.

I prefer this over Minecraft: Story Mode (that pure garbage) any day. It's meant to be a medium for expressing your creativity, NOT to be turned into a Tale tell game. I will say that this game can also teach you the life lesson that you need to be prepared for anything (I know, I dropped several f-bombs whenever a creeper killed me from behind.)

A must play, still holding it's fan-base strong in 2016. Sad to say that Mojang plans to let the Java edition go, though.

The greatest video game ever made?
Optimus_Prime_is_OP17 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Minecraft is an indie game that was created in 2009 by Swedish game programmer Markus Persson, who minecraft players simply refer to as 'Notch'. His vision was to create a game that gives the player free range. No rules, no goals, just to let the player do whatever they wanted. What he has created is a game that has changed hundreds of people lives forever.

1. Gameplay. This is the most important part of any game. Without good gameplay, the player will just give up playing. Minecraft has some of the best gameplay i have ever seen. Virtually everything in the world is destroyable with the correct tools. The idea of Minecraft is to survive. This means building a shelter and killing animals for food, and avoiding creatures such as creepers and Zombies that actively want to kill you.

2. Controls. The controls of minecraft are tight and responsive. You use the A,S,D,W to move your player around, the mouse to move your camera around, while using the left mouse button to mine, destroy blocks, punch and use tools and weapons, while the right mouse button (ctrl and left click if on a mac) allows you to place blocks down and use the bow. What's brilliant about this, is that you can change the buttons for various actions in the options.

3. Graphics. This is what makes Minecraft so much different from other games. The graphics are entirely made up of blocks. No circles here. The minecraft website allows the player to change the way that their character looks on screen. You can also change the way the game look by using texture packs or resource packs. The game looks very unique and full of character.

4. Life span. Minecraft is known for being extremely addictive. An average Minecraft play for me personally is 3 to 4 hours a day. Other people may feel different, and feel they get bored because of the lack of goals. It's all to do with how you like to play your games.

5. Legacy. Minecraft has won hundreds of rewards, along with game of the year for 3 years. Minecraft is very popular among YouTubers, for it's easy to mod and record. People have even started to make money from Minecraft YouTube videos.

Overall, minecraft is a very good game. It is also a competitor for greatest game ever.

Final score: 10/10

Simple yet effective

Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw minecraft gameplay, I thought it looked seriously bad, I didn't get how placing blocks was fun. Then I played it for the first time, I honestly had never been so wrong. There's a lot more to it, creating tools out of materials, finding food to prevent hunger and going on journeys into caves only to get completely lost. There are two modes in minecraft, creative and survival. Creative means you can build anything you want, using which blocks you want. From houses to cities, there is little in the way of what is achievable. But most big projects are very time consuming and the constant filling in will get slightly boring. This is when you play some survival. In survival, you have to obtain everything yourself and mine for the best materials to make weapons and armour to eventually defeat the ender dragon. I myself have never completed the game because again, it is very time consuming and complicated. Overall, minecraft is a very addicting and interesting game that will keep you hooked until the end. You may not like it because of the graphics (getting another texture pack can help) or for other reasons. I give it 9/10 because the gameplay is thorough, but you will get bored from time to time. I hope this was helpful :)

Where I can put my creativity at work.
jebyvyson22 September 2019
Back in 2012-2013, I always wanna to try Minecraft because it looks so special to me where I can make some ideas from. It's 2019 and I still have Minecraft and I love it to death. I do have issues about changing things that players use to do, like TNT canons and more. I would give it a 9/10, but this is a forgiving game.

Pretty overrated, but not bad.

The game is fine, but kind of overrated for what it is. It is nostalgic for many people and does hold me some memories so a solid 7/10 would be fitting.

Mojang's new Minecraft trailer

Here are the selling points of Java and Bedrock Edition:

Java: Infinite, awesome, free content

Bedrock: Limited, inferior, paid content

(Inferior doesn't mean bad, but that doesn't change the fact that you have to pay money for it)

If you had one version, you'll the other one for free!

If you had Java: You just wasted a lot of money

If you had Both: You just wasted SO MUCH money

If you had Bedrock: You just saved lots of money

(Most people own at least Java, therefore most people just wasted a lot of money)

After I watched the trailer, I wanted to play Bedrock Edition even less.

Minecraft servers and single player worlds are kid friendly now:

If a kid is on single player he won't even say something inappropriate in the chat (The chat that literally nobody else will ever read) If a grown up says something inappropriate in the chat, no kid will ever see it. Why on earth do single player worlds need chat filters and banning menu's, who would you ban other than yourself?!?!

Just add a parental control saying who the kid can play Minecraft with and what servers are moderated enough. (Moderators moderate a lot of servers. Mojang, don't put them out of business)

Hypixel has a chat filter that can be set to kid mode that is much more reliable than Minecraft's chat filter that doesn't even work. I once said in the chat, "Go in spectator mode and come to the house" to my friend, WHY ON EARTH WOULD THAT BE BLOCKED!!!! I've been using the highest level profanity filter (Even though I could bump up the filter, there's simply no need to hear that kind of stuff) so I don't peak in on weird conversations that I don't need to hear during my many hours on Hypixel. Have I ever peaked in on those conversations due to a bad filter? No! Minecraft's filter doesn't even work (As I mentioned earlier) No filter is perfect, but at least Hypixel's filter works way better than Minecraft's.

Btw, Mojang, swearings still aloud so the term kid-friendly doesn't apply. Also, if you get banned on Bedrock Edition, you can't even play on single player!

Other notes

I have a high tolerance, but this banning system is horrible and that's not all. Minecraft keeps getting worse. How long until Minecraft is no longer good? I used to think it would never get boring, and if it would, it would take hundreds of years. I couldn't have been more wrong.

It used to be that I owned lots of other games, but all I ever played was Minecraft. Now it's the other way around. In a weird way, thank you Microsoft, for getting to me to play games other than Minecraft.

One of my friends started saying that Minecraft is a dead game, I got mad at him, but now I'm starting to agree with him. Sorry, Mr. Anonymous.

So, down to the real question, is Minecraft still good? Bedrock edition, no. Java edition, yes until they add a marketplace. Once this happens, I will never step foot in this game again. Owners of Hypixel, please finish Hytale a little faster. I don't know how many more bad updates I can take. You are my saviors. Not you Mojang, I'm talking about Hytale. If Hytale isn't out when Java Edition gets ruined, I'll just be depressed for a few years. Ya, I know I talked about having other games. Well, Minecraft is my lifeline in a weird sense. While my other games are also fun, I've always needed a relaxing, creative, fun game that I can come back to when other games get boring or when I'm not in the mood for them. If was rich, I would buy Mojang and sell it to literally any company other than Microsoft. Maybe Notch could have his dream back! But I'm not that rich, and most people aren't either. Sry, Notch.

For Bedrock Edition, I have to give 1 star. If you asked me the same question during the last couple years, 4.5 stars, easily.

I know I'm being a bit harsh, but the path Minecraft is going down only goes south. So unless Minecraft turns around and starts climbing up once again, 1 star. If it weren't for this, I'd probably rate it 2 stars. There are still tons of problems. My rating doesn't even take into account all the bugs and weird graphics (Java's graphics are slightly different, but make all the difference In world).

Java does have less bugs and doesn't have a marketplace, so it's better. But Java is also going south.

You can't change old updates. That goes against the whole point of keeping old updates!

Mojang is such a great team. Not many games have lasted as long as Minecraft has, 12 years is a lot. Good job Mojang, you've brought so many people together and brought the best out of us. You should be proud. There was once a dream that was Minecraft, you've fulfilled them and more, but Microsoft is ruining that dream. Freedom, fun, creativity. These are the principles that Minecraft was built upon, not the principles Microsoft follows. I don't mean to offend anyone, but it's time for something new, something AWAY FROM MICROSOFT!

DO NOT BUY, JUST WAIT FOR HYTALE TO COME OUT. One last note: Old reviews are irrelevant nowadays, only read new ones.

LEGENDS NEVER DIE! (Except for Minecraft, Minecraft already has)

I will make my criticism short because the game is very long, I would put spoilers and I do not want to ruin surprises for newbies. This game, it leaves me speechless, you do not get bored, every time you play it you are amazed. You are alone, you may be scared, but invite a friend and everything is better ...said this, grab your crafting table, and go ahead!

Fun.... but Creepy!!
joerct-d-phillips17 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I'm addicted to this game!!! The part about modifying the game may be fun for people 13 and older, but I do NOT recommend modding minecraft if you are under 12. Also, when getting this for your child, think about restricting how much your child plays. The only thing that I think might be intense is that the only way to beat the game is to kill the Ender Dragon. Watch out for what skins your child gets, what they get to mod minecraft, the texture packs they use, and the multiplayer servers they go on. And if your child plays minecraft that is under 3, keep them on peaceful or creative at ALL times. This game can be a source of NIGHTMARES!!! Don't let kids go onto YouTube as some mods contain tons of violence, language, and blood and gore.

Land of Imagination
hydroshock-8447815 May 2019
Minecraft is a very unique game, to say the least. It is easily one of my favorite games is I just want to hang back, chill, and explore. The ambient environment is beautiful, and I never would have guessed that an 8-bit style game would still look beautiful today. And unlike other open world games, it has no story. In my opinion, it is Minecraft's biggest strength and weakness, and I will explained why in a bit.

Minecraft has come a long way, with how much content is got over the years, and the legacy it left behind. I can remember how awfully addicted I was when I first tried it. And I was skeptical before that, so please give the game a chance if you aren't sure. An endless tub of Lego bricks is exactly what the creative mode is, and many amazing creations were made with enough patience and dedication, myself included.

As for survival, I would say that is the primary reason to play Minecraft. Starting on a random world with nothing but your wits is an exciting beginning, and it only get more exciting knowing that you have the ability to harvest resources to survive, but hostile monsters will hunt you down at night. Knowing how to start is arguably the most challenging part, but once you are settled, it might be a breeze. Since the difficulty can be set from Peaceful to Hard, and other dimensions you can travel to and from have more challenging monsters to fight, the game can as relaxing or challenging as you would like it to be. And you can feel free to engage in PvP battles in either the official Minigames game mode or build your own arenas and invite friends to your world. It's also nice to know the Minecraft comes with split screen, perfect for a party.

Now why is having no story both a strength and weakness? The upside is that you don't have to worry about certain quests or objectives. Sure, it's frustrating when you die and possibly lose your loot, but you don't have objectives to restart. You have control over what you do and you make your own story. But only if you know what you want to do. The biggest problem is that if you don't know what to do, you can feel dreadfully bored of the game, as I am feeling at this moment. While it's likely temporary boredom, the game has a tendency to flucuate between being the most fun game to the most boring one, at least for me.

Minecraft is still, without a doubt, an experience every gamer should try. There is no other game like it, and it likely will keep you hooked for a while. 9/10

An old classic
Derache10 May 2019
This was a game that used to be a masterpiece. Despite being one of the most basic games you could think of being made in 2009, it managed to be the most popular games of all time. That's because of the simplicity of it. The game used to make you do everything, there was no tutorial or guide. You just guessed or learn from other people. It truly was a fun and creative game to play. However, unfortunately with more updates comes in more things and more restrictions on creativity.

Minecraft taught me how to survive! <3
epicphanpy29 March 2015
Minecraft is probably the most fun, yet surprisingly educational, game I have ever played.

The possibilities are infinite - you can build absolutely anything! You can build a mansion, or a city, anything that your imagination can think of! That is the thing I like about this game. It teaches kids and adults alike very important life skills if you are ever alone and lost on a island.

Before I played this game, I knew next to nothing about gold, diamond, etc., nothing about other bricks like obsidian, marble, and also things like brewing, Redstone, the list goes on and on. This game has taught me so many things, while playing and having fun.

Another awesome aspect, multi player. It is so fun playing with other people, helping people build, and working on awesome, big projects.

But yeah, if I will get lost on a island one day, Minecraft taught me how to survive.

Minecraft PS4 Review
Moviememmer1 August 2020
Pros:
  • Create and do anything
  • Expansive worlds
  • Crafting is simpler and easier with recipes already fixed in
  • Creative mode is fun
  • Simple but charming art style

Cons:
  • Inventory management can be abit awkward
  • Game will not be for everyone, as it relies on the player's imagination and creativity

Verdict: Minecraft relies on the power of creativity of the player. Just like the PC version, Minecraft on PS4 is a great game to own.
